One thing you really didnt factor in was the parts had on hand. Lets say you buy a stock integra, bit molested, somebody swapped in a gsr trans or b16 with the ls motor. You already have almost everything you'd need and would only need to buy an engine (h23a blue top best bang for buck at around 5-600 from an importer) and the h2b kit(400 plm 650~ qsd and plateless) ofcourse an ecu (150 chipped p28 with basemap online) then converting the wiring to work with an H(mostly just extending altternator cable and changing some plugs.) Can be done under 2k if you do all the work yourself. Wont take half a year, can be done in a few weekends depending on how much time you have. VS k series you have to buy everything. engine trans ecu axles shifer box mounts etc. If you had a shell then going with k or h2b would be almost equally expensive, just like how its really expensive to go from straight H swap to h2b(buying every b series part) but if you already have most of the parts on a bswapped car then bang for buck h2b no brainer

K swap hands down for sure. I daily my k20z1 eg sedan. I built it in my garage using oem Honda parts ( I work at a Honda parts department) and since the day I started it I've never had a reliability concern. Ever. I even drove it the day after I started it from Florida to Tennessee during hurricane irma and had zero issues. Swap bolted in perfectly. Did everything by my self and didn't have to repair or replace a single thing. K swaps have my vote hands down. My budget was below 4k as Well going from a auto d16z6 to a k20z1.

I have a H2b in my Eg. Zero issues. But… accessing the timing belt you have to take off right engine mount and drop engine. And also the balance shafts and belt need to be deleted. Which costs an additional $400. So add that to the cost too!

  • @frdbtr
    @frdbtr Před 6 lety +2

One thing that was left out of this video is the weight of the motors. H and J motors are much heavier than the B and K motors. I guess a bunch of weight on your front wheel drive car doesn't make as much difference if you are only going in a straight line but if you want a driver, weight is everything. I would never put a 500lb v6 in the front of a 2300-2500lb eg or ek car. It would push in the corners like crazy. Even the H series motors out weight the B series motors by about 60lbs whereas the K motors are virtually the same weight as a B series motor. That doesn't sound like a lot until you realize that the D series motors (the ones these cars were born with) was about 40 lbs lighter than the B series motor.

Whats the problem with frm liners? Other than not being able to run forged slugs or lack of aftermarket support the metal is stout. The f20/22c(s2000 motor) has frm liners and it has been known to run 500+whp on stock internals. Porsche also uses frm. If you want to a high hp H block you buy Mahle or go F20B and run forged pistons. Its 2017 we are continuing to find new ways to make power on older platforms. Check my F and H out

but h2b ftw its not that expensive if u go h23 that's the secret 2k turn key then add some basic bolt ons intake headers full exhaust with
type s cams and a tune and u got a dope ass street motor around
    225 - 250hp if u were to build a
b series that's right around wut u would get hp wise but with less torque of course but comparing the h2b over built b series I would go h2b all day love that torque

  • @dayadam16

H23 blue top are 750 to 900, knock off h2b kit 500. B series mounts 150 axles 150 t bracket 90 chipped p28 100-200 gsr trans 750 to 1000 ebay sometimes has pick up options or free shipping sometimes. Lw fw 170 clutch 150. H2b header 300. Besides the modifications you need to do to the h22 block for fitment of the kit and axle its a b swap after that. I got lucky when i did mine and found an engine for 350 paid 700 for my qsd kit, 400 h2b header, 550 gsr trans, 90 mounts, 150 axles, 90 t bracket, 170lwfw, 150 clutch, 75 socket ecu, ebay 2.3 exhaust 110, 255fp 60, cut off altenator wiring from prelude 10, tune 300 199whp 156wtq 95 ex coupe. Everytime i sit down and consider the k swap I get discouraged with the process wiring, fuel system, clutch line, shifter box, removing the passenger mount off the frame rail and more. To do a k swap right and get that oem finish it cost way more. A h2b is priced better than a gsr engine which currently go for 2000$. As far as driveability I use second gear to pull off because first seems useless with gsr 1st. Very smooth experience i love that i dont have to mash the throttle to move and my gas mileage is near 30 city with light foot driving. Lsd is a must cause the torque steer will pull you off the road. But for a daily for my wife I will be doing a k20a3 swap if I can keep the price around 4grand and get ac and ps for her cause she needs that and she wants a gsr or type r swap and id rather not waist that much money on those. If you got a list of things i can do to keep prices down let me know.

Let’s recap pricing it’s 700 to 800 for h23 500 for plateless kit, mounts 200 tranny 500 to 700 stock axles 200 p28 150 flywheel and clutch 250 . If you have an ex no wiring needed unless you run the obd1 injectors that need resistor box. Obd 1 cars easier with wiring. Just run an obd1 h22a distributor. Plateless kit you can run stock header but if you do the plate kit it’s 300 to 400 for h2b header. So under 3 grand for plateless setup.

You hit the nail on the head on the H2B. I have had one for 2 years and it runs and drives but it is still not done. I have no a/c, which is annoying in the scorching summers here in NYC. You forgot to mention the oil pan situation, its impossible to drain all oil because engine sits at an angle. I have spent enough money to go k24/k20 plus i wouldve had an extra gear to cruise on the highway. H2B is fun to drive, loads of torque just takes alot if time and money to get it to be a good daily.

Also gunna be my first time going boost! Should be a lot of fun for me. I also like the H because it's very similar to a B series.

Ive driven K24/k20, k20a, b20v, lsv, h2b and none of them compare to a j series. My boss had one in an em1 it pins you on the seat until you let off, very strong motor. Feels like a turbo car plus its pretty cool to drive around in a honda that doesnt have that normal honda exhaust note.

Straight h22a swap for me. Obd1 jdm H22A, m2f4 usdm trans with mfactory lsd and 4.6fd. All in all with Hasport mounts,DSS axles, AND phearable chipped P28 cost me a hair over $3k. Thats running and driving and killin' Ks. My only complaint is H22 cable shifters suck. But hey my next upgrade is a Ktuned Rsx shifter, then the H2B guys can tell me all about how buying adapter plates, hacking up their block, buying a special clutch/flywheel and either fucked up hood risers or a custom oil pan all just to keep their damn shift rods is SO worth it just to not cut 1 hole and remove a tranny bracket.
Btw my axles do no bind or rub in anyway and i have only broken ONE since 2010.
Also you can definitely have AC with h22 in an EG. Use all your stock lines and the H22 compressor and it bolts right up. And it isnt hard AT ALL to put a straight h swap in. I bought the mounts, used my stock EX harness, extended alternator wiring added an injector resister box, removed the trans bracket, cut a hole for the shifter and a smaller one for the cables and the rest is a bolt on, plug and play affair. I love HSG but he is on crack by saying an h swap takes 2 months plus.... Easily done in one weekend and it was my first swap or engine removal PERIOD. I was only 20 y/o. People love to hate on the H series and its so dumb. 200hp 161 tq and it only adds roughly 40lbs over the stock d series! Yeah no joke. I can add links to prove what Im saying about the weight if anyone wants.

there is a company that sells an adapter plate to do a j to k swap. so a run with a j swap with same trans as a k swapped car would be a good run. j has more torque but it is a much heavier engine

  • @charleywaynehinkle6358

I mean size makes a big difference not sure how an h would be comparable to a k series. I think they have strokers up to 2.7L now. Not sure why J series haven’t become the main swap. Maybe they are just to big to want to deal with.

Pondering whether to buy a clean ej coupe with a turbo'd b18c gsr back in my hometown($4,500) ,or buy a k20a2 for my clean ek (98 civic ex) chassis with only 78k on it. The turbo'd ej coupe will need a tune since it has a new engine rebuild along with a few other things ,and doing a k swap will still require more $$$ to complete. I've got 6k to work with. I think the best motor to work on is the one you already have in the car. I feel like most people get drawn into swapping and don’t realize the cost like you stated mark. People will spend money to drop a B series and ditch their d series when you could boost the d series, and have a quicker car.
I know I made a budget when I did my kswap and I ended up spending way more than my initial estimate.

Depends what you want outta the car. Having done a turbo d, f20b/H23Avtec with a b trans, and a b18c. They all have there advantages and disadvantages. My latest setup is the slowest with the b18c but I wanted a easy setup with no issues that I dont need to worry about going to an autox event hours away. I love them all just need plan around what the car is for.

In my opinion, stock without any motor modifications, h and j. Those 2 will kill.
K has a lot of modification suppliers.
But j and k are in my opinion more expensive cause of all the parts toy need for it to even fit/ work.
Like a shell that can even do a k. Gotta shave this and that, find parts cause you can't just grab a donor car, certain things don't fit.
Wiring either way will be a pain in the ass.

Wish ya talked about the F2B swap... The stock F20/22/23 are all damn near drop in plug n plays with a chipped ecu with the F2B kit. Plus they have loads of torque, especially if you throw an H22a head on them and make K series power for literally half of the K series price... 300 dollar F23, 600 dollar H22 and sell the bottom end for 300. The F2B kit is around 500 and a decent B trans is like 500-1000, Boom 1600 dollars and maybe another 400-600 for the ecu. Not saying you're wrong at all or anything, but this swap is awesome and wish more knew of it!
