    People need to realize that the human body only has so many degrees of freedom to move in. So when people say "Oh this is Asian arts with an Afrocentric spin", they are missing the point. What makes a art "African", "Asian", or what have you, is the governing principles and meanings behind the moves. As Marimba Ani would put it, it's the "asili" of the art that makes it African. If you are just seeing the moves from a Eurocentric or Asian viewpoint, then you are missing it. You have to let go of the idea that only Asia has martial arts and martial philosophy that is rooted within their culture. Check out N'golo, Laamb wrestling, Dambe boxing, Zulu stick fighting, and the arts of the Anaang people of Nigeria.

      aerospike00 This comment is very correct. I have practiced martial arts most of my life. I've always been interested in cultural African Martial Arts but it is very difficult to find. The most common known is very popular in Brazil. I compared what I know about Asian martial arts to what I see here. All martial arts have things in common. However, I can see the difference. The techinque of what is displayed here is amazing. It is very well thought out. The question is it's African authenticatcy. It is an African art being promoted by "African Americans". It has the appearance of African Americans taking the knowledge they have of martial arts and applying the "African-American" concept of what is "African". I think what people want to know is the origins of this art. It would be great if you had a video explaining the origins to include what locations in Africa these arts originated.

      @aerospike00 great point and when it comes to you naming African fighting arts you missed one - the ancient Kushite fighting art called "Pan Kau Ra Shen"

      Do you know some references about the two handed sword style?
      Name, or origins ?
      Even the name of the sword, for I've never seen first 2handed afro sword ever..
      I'm still searching.

      @@aerospike00 look it up on Google. It means All Powers of Ra/Defeating enemies with the spirit/power/force of Ra. Pan Kau Ra Shen originated in Kush and grew in the Proto Sahara before the Kushites brought it to Kamit. The Kushites of Kush and Kamit used it for sport as a tribute to the Pharaoh and in war times it was a pure Montu War Art. It's the paintings of the wrestling on the Beni Hasan tombs. The most brutal warriors of Pan Kau Ra Shen were the Medjay and the most brutal, Savage, dangerous and terrifying Pan Kau Ra Shen warriors were the Kushites of Kerma. The Greeks learned their fighting techniques from our ancient Kushite forefathers and turned Pan Kau Ra Shen....into Pan gra tio/ pan kra tio/pan kra tion which is known in Greece today as Pankration. If a black man learns Pankration he doesn't even know he's learning the basics of the ancient art of Pan Kau Ra Shen. For the original Pan Kau Ra Shen us black had an inner power called "Rau" which is called Kundalini in India and chi/Qi in China. The Greeks called it Pneuma.
      Pan Kau Ra Shen is the original MMA and the Kushites are the true forefathers of complete stand up and ground fighting.

      and they got their culture from Babylonian and even older Sumerian cultures. Just because we don't have Archeological items, writings or the like doesn't make it any less factual. Egypt was not the first sophisticated culture on this planet. Before them were the Babylonian and Sumerian cultures and there were plenty of wars and warriors who had sophisticated systems that were passed down to the Egyptians. Plus I don't believe there is a single point to go to to "find" the beginning of martial arts. Also just because it is "oldest" doesn't make it effective or even good, especially in modern days. To me that is someone proclaiming pride because they are still using DOS in 2021.

    the root of martial arts is people fighting each other. This whole thing of tracing martial arts back one original source "art" is just stupid. whenever people fight they develop techniques to win, some just become more formalized than others. its just common sense. Besides, how would you explain Okichitaw the Native American Art.

    • @theunfadeable60
      @theunfadeable60 Před 3 lety

      If you're going to try to trace martial arts back to an original source, somewhere in Africa or the Middle East would be the likely place.
