    The problem for me isn't the speed at which they speak (although it does seem a bit fast because I'm a beginner) but the problem is that all the words seem to flow into one another. The whole sentence can sound like one word and it's difficult to distinguish individual words and find meaning. I've been studying German and Spanish and neither of those languages seems to have that problem for. Spanish flows a lot more than German for sure, but French does it at much more difficult to understand level.

      and on the streets, there are a lot of code words, if you will, for things you learn formally. Like take the word things. You learn it as choses. But in spoken french people say "truc" for example, il y a plein de truc instead of il y a plein de choses.

      I had a problem wich was similar to that one when I was learning english, the words in the sentences seemed to be a bit mixed up and the native speakers semmed to speak way faster than I could understand. I think this depens on you getting used to the language.

      @@azstyles940 I tried Bussu premium (only like 10 dollars a month) for 6 months toghether with this videos. An hour a day aprox and I went from zero to understand this kind of videos and more. Loved the app so much.
      Duolingo was a complete failliure for me, full of mistakes and phrases that you will never use, I also paid premium for a month and it was the same.
      I also started to use Hellotalk, a free app for language exchange, really nice.
      And know I'm doing transcripts of videos like this, searching for the words that I still don't know in "reversocontext" and write the translations in a file with the differents uses and contexts for every word.

  • @ExotiqBeautii
    @ExotiqBeautii Před 7 lety +176

    I don't think they speak fast; it's just that whilst listening, people don't realize that they "run" their words together, just like any other language. For example, en anglais américain, you hear "I want to go to France" as "Iwanna gowda France". We don't pronounce every single letter like when we're reading. I actually learned that we do this when I began teaching English to Japanese people (J'habite au Japon maintenant). All of it has to do with knowing when to run multiple words together as one cohesive word. I teach my Japanese students this trick, and although it's difficult for them in the beginning, they start to get the hang of it. My goal is to have them sound like English is their first language, just like we want to speak French like it's our first.

    French folk do speak really fast. CZcams has many French videos. But almost none of them has proper subtitles that would help people pick up or improve their French. If France wants français to be an important language like how it was in the past, more resources and study aids must be made available to non-french speaking people. A lot more french videos on CZcams should be properly subtitled in French (or at least English). I do think that French media is not doing enough to help people learn its wonderful language.
    I actually started learning French through Duolingo, which is an American product. It's ironic that America, a country that is always stubbornly resistant to French culture, created a product that is by far the cheapest and most accessible way to learn French.

      According to the international language community, French is becoming one of the most spoken language in the world and by 2050 it should overtake Spanish for the podium just behind Mandarin and English.
      Not because french population is growing quickly but actually population from their former last colonial empire which skyrocketed during the last decades.
