    FINALLY! A video on stoppages that keeps it down to earth and SIMPLE! The amount of videos that blabber on for 30 minutes plus about this topic because they seemingly love the sound of there own voice is infuriating. Enter Coch for the win! Keeping it real, clear, concise and on topic! Thank you for your service Sir! Great teacher, great leader!

    In my training, if you have a Class I, II, or III malfunction, the first thing you do always is transition to your sidearm in most cases and call for cover if you havw friendlies with you who can cover you with a long gun while you fix the malfunction. Obviously if you are far away from the threat, you may not need to call for cover and just tuck in somewhere. As for as clearing the malfunction Class I is Obviously a tap, roll, rack. Class II (Stove pipe) is a tap, roll, rack also, however in some cases, you can just push the brash with the meaty part of your hand which will sweep it out of your ejection port and then your gun is back up and running in most cases. Some cases you may still have a dead trigger and need to tap, roll, rack afterwards and just chamber a new round.
    For class III, we drop to a knee. Thats the main difference. Its easier to solve the problem dropping to a knee, locking the bolt to the rear, ejecting the magazine and placing the magazine in the crevest of the back of your support side knee and then doing a quick finger sweep, rack the bolt twice, and then re insert the mag. Then you are back in the fight.

    Good video Coch.
    The only two malfunctions not covered here are the bolt override, and the bolt failing to return to battery. The latter is what the forward assist is for, and I have uploaded a video on how to rectify the former in just a couple seconds (there are several techniques).

    Excellent video, plain and concise! And finally someone who doesn't teach students to reuse the mag when you get a feeding malfunction! So many "instructors" I see on here have students holding the mag while working the bolt and then reusing it when, in reality, the mag probably caused that jam. Love the use of both hands too, people are so obsessed with never taking their hand off fire control that it's to their detriment and gives them less control over a muzzle-heavy rifle

    At 09:42 Coch says that upon inspecting the chamber if there is brass visible or the bolt
    Is FULLY FORWARD. You must perform the remedial action drill.
    Surely a bolt in battery would be a tap and rack. Should
    I assume he meant bolt fully rearward on an empty mag?

    When my gun was overgassed I had the brass rim of a cartridge torn off by the extractor, leaving a damaged and empty shell in the chamber. Tried all of the standard malfunction drills, but they didn’t help of course. Luckily I was just on the range… Didn’t figure out what happened until I got home and took the upper off of the lower, at which point my only course of action was to jam a cleaning rod down the barrel (and install an adjustable gas block).

    If you had tugged on the magazine after insertion, you would know it is seated and you wouldn't need to tap the bottom. If you tap the bottom, you still need to give the magazine a tug.

    However, I am still confused as to what the solution is. I am currently utilizing an H1 buffer weight, and Toolcraft BCG. I have stripped down said BCG and no friction wear is apparent. What would you suggest I look at now?

    I keep having a malfunction on my BCM. Once I shoot a magazine and the bolt is locked back, once I go to put in another magazine and push the bolt forward, the trigger doesn't engage. What could be the cause of that?

    • @mattfleming86
      @mattfleming86 Před rokem

      That is very odd that it only does it from the bolt release, and not from firing. I would suggest having someone proficient look at it, be it a gunsmith or a very competent AR guy. It could be that there is some gunk in the trigger, but the hammer following the bolt could also be a deeper problem. There is also the option of sending it back to BCM.
