I asked Sterling if they would send me a Goldie AND THEY SAID YES! And im glad they did because I think this might be the most ideal St. Vincent for me to come out so far (Glad I waited). It plays awesome, sounds amazing, feels comfortable against my squishy middle aged dad bod and looks like cool old Cadillac! What else could a boy want?

I am so lucky that 5 years ago I was volunteer stage manager on a music/arts festival in Ireland and popped into a coffee shop before I started work, there was a lady ordering a few takeaway cups and she turned around, smiled and apologised for the delay. Only after talking for a couple of minutes she introduced herself as St.Vincent. She was super sweet and put my name on the guest list for her gig later that night. She is incredible, played guitar like Prince/Hendrix I thought but still a unique talent.❤ Love her guitars. They sound great live for sure.

  • @michaelnachoescamilla6241

I have one of the very early blue Saint Vincents with the all Rosewood neck. Interestingly, as much as I am a gear swapper, I have had this guitar for probably the longest amount of time out of all my guitars. One of the things that did not work for me about this guitar was the electronics. When I initially got it, I was using three separate guitars for gigging. This was the only guitar I could not swap directly between and not have to change amp settings. This is due to the 250 K pots that were stock in the guitar. I ended up gutting electronics and putting in a super switch and to 500 K pots. Opened up the guitar up immensely. I also opted for a configuration that works for my taste and rig. It’s neck series/neck parallel, then middle/bridge parallel, then bridge series/bridge parallel. Huge array of tones, and the guitar is an absolute keeper. It’s one of the best instruments I’ve ever owned, and there have been a few.

5:19 Totally agree! The diminutive curvy headstock just looks like a mistake with the angular body design. I wish guitar makers would stop with the signature headstocks and create new headstocks for each new design. Especially when it’s a totally unique body design like this. I do agree the reverse headstock is a big step in the right direction.

so the unfortunate back story is there was one. Annie was openly talking about music man releasing a bass version when her sig guitar was released. it was a passive 30" short scale that she was designing with pino pallandino. it never came out and 2 years later music man quietly announced it had killed the project. the only thing music man has ever done that truly disappointed me. Annie later said pino owns the prototype.

  • @antonharmacinski276

The original Goldies were Music Man's and were 3k. I saw Sterling is making one now, but they made a version of her first model with the larger pickguard as well. And while this is an attractive offer, and I'm a fan, so I really want one, I already have a wall full of sub 1k instruments and have no desire to own the Squire/Epiphone version. And having a wall full of instruments, I really don't have space. (Now if someone gave me one as a gift, I'd find space ;) I also don't have a gold guitar so a Gold Goldie would kill 2 bird with 1 stone. ) To my knowledge, Sterling to Music Man isn't closing the gap the way Epiphone and Squire have really been rivaling their top end counterparts lately.
All of St. V's guitars are getting harder to find now and I'm starting to see a few bands pop up who are using them. (Just making me wish I got one years ago.) And these newer Sterlings seem to be flying off the shelves as well. (They've been out for a few months at the time of this post.)
It's funny you mentioned the size because I was going to ask if these Sterlings are downsized? The MMs she uses live all seem like regular sized guitars, I've seen a few other people play them and same thing. They look like regular sized or large guitars. But I've only seen the MMs played by people, not the Sterlings. Are those people just tiny (very possible, IDK the names of some of them, but Willow Smith and Jack White have played them on SNL.) , are you a giant, or is it downsized compared to the MM? (Doesn't your curly haired buddy with the glasses have the MM version of this? A comparison would be cool to see. The only differences I can spot are the trem and while the 3k trem looks cooler, the Sterling trem looks more functional and fun. Are the pickup's the same or are they more of an OEM version? I can only find comparisons of the St. V V1s.)
As stated, I like that trem as well. Do you think we can float it a little like we can with the strat style trems for some push/pull wiggle-sticking?
I'm a fan of cools shapes. My 1st guitar was a Series 10 that I traded in for an B.C. Rich Warlock in '93 that I still have to this day. I also have a Mockingbird, and while it's kind of normal, I have a Jem Jr. but that grip really sets it apart for me. I have a D'Angelico Bedford SH and TD (TearDrop). The rest of my guitars are 2x 6 string Ibanez RGs, a 7 string multi scale RG. A Squire Affinity Strat. And an ESP LTD, which is a neck-through and has an EMG 81/85 set that they guy who gave it to me won in a Guitar World contest.
I also have an odd Les Paul shaped guitar from what I believe is from CMI. It's got Mustang/Jazz Master style bar switches. It's not a crazy shape, but all the white switches on the black body make it pop. (The Rorschach impression is a penguin.) TBH I got it at a rummage sale for $15 and have only tested to make sure the electronics and pickups worked. I really should toss some strings onto it and see how it sounds, but from what information I've been able to gather, it's a cheap entry level no name guitar that was made overseas for, and sold by CMI, so I haven't been in a big hurry to mess with it. I'm not exactly short on guitars.

I would submit to you that Annie is not a dad body. I agree that it probably works better with a light touch, since that's the way she plays. Good sounding guitar.

That's a great color on a meticulously crafted instrument, plus, it sounds massive! Headstock shape doesn't quite match the body contours...

Yeah it need a long head like the firebird or something else matching this cubist body.

Not a fan of the color, but I do like the look of those guitars...and the sound you got out of the one you have. I like the bevels! They add a nice retro appliance or automotive design touch.

I've really grown to love mini humbuckers! I only have on e guitar with them, and it has such a nice sound. I'd love one of these, but want to wait until I can find a music man version. the sterlings I've seen all have some sort of qc issues.

This guitar looks like someone cut up a explorer but most importantly it looks interesting.

Awesome guitar. You should play the he'll out of it in all of your new vids for a while. You sold me on it. There is one local to me, and I'm going to try it out tomorrow with the intention of buying it.

Damn, now I'm torn between this and the 150th Anniversary Epiphone Crestwood in California Coral. How is it that you make me want every guitar you review? But seriously, between those two, which would ultimately be your choice and why?

I'll have to stop watcning and pick it back up later but so far I haven't heard you correct the pickup wiring. If it's anything like the original St. Vincents then it's not standard at all and has an all 3 and a Bridge/neck position, as well as one for each individual pickup.
