Jason Belmonte won his 12th Major at the 2020 U.S. Open. This is a compilation of the games he bowled in the semi-final match and final match en route to his 12th Major.
Only two PBA bowlers have won the "Career Super Slam" (All five majors: US Open, T of C, PBA, USBC Masters, Players) Mike Aulby was the first and now Jason Belmonte.
Are the oil patterns always different on each of the two lanes? Do they do this on purpose to make it more challenging for the players, so they have to adjust from shot to shot as they move between lanes?
Hi! The oil patterns are the same on both lanes, but as bowling balls go down the lanes, they absorb oil and hence the oil patten will eventually change, and in a bowling term, it's called "transition". If they are using two different oil patterns on each lane (eg. 2020 Hall of Fame Classic), the commentators will state specifically, and the way the players attack the lane will be significantly different.
@@WLLoo Thanks, good to know. Is that why we don't always see the pros bowling 300s? I regularly see scores in the high 100s and low 200s in televised play. Which is shocking to me as I would assume the best of the best would be able to consistently bowl closer to 300. What gives?
@@KingRockets The oil patterns used for tournaments on the PBA, also known as "Sport Patterns" is less forgiving compared to your normal oil patterns in your home bowling alley, also known as the "House Pattern" (THS). THS has more room of error compared to a sport pattern, and a one board miss at the arrows on sport, can lead to a big difference to how the ball reacts and hits the pins. Therefore, you are correct about why the pros rarely bowl 300 on TV, but 300 games do happen in qualifying rounds and match play, just that it's quite rare.
A super slam means that a player has won all majors on the PBA Tour (USBC Masters, US Open, World Series of Bowling, Tournament of Champions and the Players Championship)
