    I believe the idea is that all three Serbian named international expresses are planned to be reintroduced at the same time, so while track overhaul is finished on the routes for the Balkan Express and Ivo Andrič (Sofia and Budapest), the rail line into Macedonia is still torn up, and as such the Hellas Express (Thessaloniki via Skopje) can't run yet. In general Serbia has basically decided to shred all their old track and lay new high speed lines which means a lot of international trains are cancelled.
    (side note the unnamed express to Zagreb, numbers B 412/B 413 should be back this year. I'd love if it got the old name back, it used to be the "Nikola Tesla". In general I'm a strong supporter of named trains tbh)

      I rode the new high speed trains between Belgrade and Novi Sad back in October 2022. If the rest of the Serbian system turns out like that, Serbia can be proud of its new system. Bye the way, the high speed service is well patronized. I think people will ride any new service as long as it is quick, clean and relatively inexpensive. The Stadler trains are excellent!

      Currently Novi Sad - Subotica is being reconstructed, the line in Hungary is getting a second track(just like the line from Arad, Romania). I'm not sure if anything has happened between Beograd, Nis and Dimitrovgrad

      @@berkhofduvedec Not yet, the job tenders are not active, and will be selected this year. The line will be split in 3 parts (3 tenders), the project is expected to take 3.5 years (from 2025 I guess..). Money is already prepared for the line, and max speed will be 200km/h. From Nis until Leskovac, the line is not being renovated, and the line until Macedonian border will probably be completed after BG-Nis, and will have 160km/h maxV. Also, a life from Belgrade until Croatian border is being prepared, as well as a line from Belgrade (Ruma) until Zvornik (Bosnia), an then in Bosnia until Doboj. A line from Nis until Dimitrovgrad is being renovated, but I am not sure what is the maxV (not high speed), and will be electrified. In will take 2-3 years to complete.

    Two questions on the taxi ride if you don't mind. 1) Are taxis available straight off the train or do you need phone for one? 2) How much did the taxi cost? If over an hour I assume it is fairly expensive. Thanks.

      So we got a later train that arrived into Niš just after 21:00, and there were a few taxis waiting outside the station. In terms of price I can’t fully remember but was around about £35. There is also a bus that runs from Niš to Dimitrovgrad which will work out cheaper if travelling solo but it left early morning (around 5am).

      Sadly the second train from the border to Sofia doesn’t seem to be operating this year again, hopefully it returns one day.

    How long was the journey all in?

      @glasgowreports9710  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The journey took around 23 hours, including the one hour time difference. Sadly, the train from the Serbian border to Sofia doesn't seem to be running this year, so would have to be a bus from Nis in Serbia to Sofia.
