- A masterpiece by Mel Bonis, French female composer who isn't forgotten, she just isn't yet discovered by the wide audience. My five cents to make it happen. This is just one of more than 300 compositions from her ouevre. Originally, it is composed for violoncello and piano, but the majority of cellists seem not to care very much about its existence... and we, double bassists are missing so badly such great sonatas 😂
For my own, this is one of the most beautiful pieces I ever played. Special thanks to my ex student Clément Plet, who told me about the composer and mentioned the piece nearly 10 years ago.

Bravo !
Maestro, thank you for showcasing the beautiful talents of the women artists of that time period. Such a needful and wonderful performance!
Agreed! Take this out into the world! Thank you so much for sharing and very beautifully played!
Lovely composition and marvelous performance.
Thank you 🥰🙏 yes, it is a marvelous composition. I don't understand why musicians don't play it more often
It is really important that great musicians like you, are spotlighting worldwide composers that we never heard before. Your former student must be really happy, because you are performing a piece indicated by him/her. Bravo for you both Hansjacob and Bozo. Bravo also to Clèment who indicated this piece.
Hey, Dragon's flame 🤗 thank you. Yes, that is exactly what I'm doing since some years. And the students are also very happy 😍 they are so creative, I just occasionally manage to perform some of many projects or ideas they do. My next video will also be such one 😇 Clément wanted to try to play himself this piece, but it stayed on plans... he noticed that it doesn't work with common tuning, but didn't find time to transpose it and try with another strings. Now with job and family he will barely have more time than before 😂
This is extraordinary. Thank you for this.
French music of this period and this piece in particular...so much beauty!
Mil felicidades!!
Thanks so much for capturing this on digital video. Every aspect of the performance and the work is the best. Bravo a tutti!
1. Moderato quasi Andante, Allegretto 0:00
2. Très lent 6:20
3. Moderato molto, Allegro con fuoco 9:35
Saludos desde Costa Rica.. Muchas gracias Maestro!!
Bravo!
❤️❤️❤️
Undescriptive beauty, thank you for sharing :)
thanks Mr. s
So good
For me (I'm a cellist) this work is IT. Honestly, I don't know of any other piece that goes to the quick of me more - and that's including oh, little works like Greig Air Religioso, Barber Adagio for Strings, Mahler Adagietto, Walker Lyric for Strings, Bach Ariso, Beach 4 Sketches, Wallen Cello Concerto etc etc.
It took me awhile to realize the greatness of the Bonis, but...once it hit me. Oh my.
I will be very glad if more people will play this piece, that was my goal 🤗
@@bozoparadzikcom I am just starting a cello-piano duo. Will try to incorporate one movement (1st or 2nd as I find the 3rd mvt a bit to piano weighted but still great mvt) of this, its just sooooooooooooo beautiful that I get goosebumps. Just not sure yet if I manage the piano part myself, but I will try. I have just played MelANIE Bonis as part of a female composer repertoire piano solo and got 1st place in a piano youth competition 😁. Of course no other competitor had works of a female composer, but hey, that was my turn then to tell everyone!
This piece is pretty amazing, I hope much more people will play it now
@@bozoparadzikcom I think you can be sure of that. It's great that musicians like you record an upload gems like this. Thank you for that!
美しい
Thank you for the wonderful playing! I have a question: Which string you use for the cGDA Tuning? Thank you!
Handmade gut strings, you can read on my website about all my tools 😊
@@bozoparadzikcom Thank you so much for the reply! I will check it out!
Why double Bass??
Why not?
@@bozoparadzikcom yes, that's true, why not? It's a nice idea. Just wanted to know, if there was any special reason for this... by the way: I like this piece 😊
Oh, I just read your explanation in the channel information...
@@music-nerd6776 🥰 yes, this is a wonderful cello sonata, but the cellists don't care for its existence at all.
