  • One small video - two small achievements - in one easy to replicate video. Why yes I did have this video stored on my computer for weeks and forgot to upload it... sometimes we have brain not smart.
The achievement '…and you get a canton, everybody gets a canton!' is not a simple achievement title to be honest. Annoying to type correctly too. I wouldnt be suprised that the later update makes this strat not possible but I see no reason why it wouldnt be - I had a pretty imperfect Swiss run and still pulled through despite the mechanics which can appear overwhelming on first viewing.

the reason behind this is that the Vichy government was actually the ''real'' France so all the colonies belonged to it by default.
De Gaul later established the Free French Forces in exile as a counter to the government in Vichy and steadily took the colonies with allied help

Yeah, Vichy was actual France and Petain was popular, whereas De Gaulle was pretty heavily disliked and also didn't own France
Also Petain had the French navy, which was the entire way France interacted with its colonies
Also siding with De Gaulle meant being at war with the Germans, Italians and Japanese. The Japanese seizing Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia from Petain was a big part of why they listened to De Gaulle

Vichy France keeps those territories because they did irl. Alot of French were pretty willing to collaborate with the Germans.I guess they thought the war was over for them.
During operation Torch in 1942, U.S. forces landed in French West Africa to fairly determined opposition. (I think U.S.S. Massachusetts still has a shell from the French battleship Jean Bart that struck it) Vichy France also kept Syria, and they even fought the Thai in Indochina until the Japanese intervened. Over time more places switched to the Allied cause as they realized who was winning (the most honorable course of action) or the as the Allies occupied territory - such as Madagascar. The mechanics that represents this in game actually seems to work pretty well imo.
I don't think its talked about enough that there was essentially a French Civil War parallel to WW2, and quite alot of them chose to side with the Germans, or just attempt to not do anything at all. It's in pretty stark contrast to essentially every other country occupied by Germany during WW2. Although, even more credit to those who did stay on and fight for the allied cause. There were some, and they definitely did contribute.
