This is for the beautiful people of Latin America, especially those who have been ‘questioning” the entry of the Philippines or Filipinas to the 2017 Reina Hispanoamericana pageant. In one latin FB page, they have been asking why oh why, Delilah? 😊 They might have little or no idea on both Spanish and American influences on Filipino culture. As Wikipedia puts it, the Spanish influence on Filipino culture has been profound, having which originated from the Spanish East Indies. A variety of aspects of the customs and traditions in the Philippines today can be traced back to this influence. Spanish settlement in the Philippines first took place in the 16th century, during the Spanish colonial period of the islands. Philippine Spanish (Spanish: Español Filipino, Castellano Filipino) is a variant of standard Spanish spoken in the Philippines. It is a Spanish dialect of the Spanish language. The variant is very similar to Mexican Spanish, because of Mexican and Latin American emigration to the Spanish East Indies (Philippines) over the years. Chavacano, a Spanish-based creole, is spoken in the Zamboanga Peninsula (where it is an official dialect), Davao and Cotabato in Mindanao, and Cavite in Luzon. Filipinos today speak a variety of different languages including Cebuano, Tagalog, Ilocano, Ilonggo, and Bikolano, in addition to English- all of which contain up to several thousand Spanish loanwords.

The recent miss universe pageant where Michelle Dee is thought to have been robbed brought me here. While the MU pageant seems controversial these days, Reina Hispanoamerica is worthy of praise for being fair in their treatment to all their candidates. Teresita won fair and square in this competetion. On the other hand, her cousin Michelle Dee was treated harshly in MU and because of this, the MU's integrity and prestige are adversely affected and greatly diminished.
MMD speaks so highly of her but I never watched her winning performance until now. 1st reaction pang MU ang awra at galawan at she is super well spoken. Mabuti na lang dinahan dahan niya ung pagsagot para di nahirapan ung interpreter because her answer is full of substance and comes from the heart. Well deserved win talaga.

Fun fact: Akisha Albert, Miss Curacao and the first runner up here, competed in three international pageants. Reina Hispanoamericana 2017, where of course Winwyn Marquez won. She also competed in Miss Earth 2014, where the eventual winner would be Jamie Herrell of the Philippines. And most notably, she competed in Miss Universe 2018, finishing Top 10, where the eventual winner would be Catriona Gray. So every time Albert competed in an international pageant, the Philippines won the pageant that year.

Wyn wyn her look is really Miss Universe
If Wyn Wyn Marquez has taller height like 5'9 ft she's only 5'6 or 5'7 , she could have represented the Philippines in MU right after Pia Wurtzbach winning. They competed the same year in the MUP but Pia won the title.
Olivia culpo, miss universe 2012 is only one 5’6 or 5’7. So height is not an issue.
Winwyn's height, 5'7 is really not short. MJ Lastimosa, Ara Arrida, Shamcey Supsup all stand 5'7. Lara Quigaman who is Miss International 2005 is only 5'5. Same with Miss Universe 2012, Olivia Culpo and Miss Universe 2017 Demi Nel Peters. Gloria Diaz is 5'4 and Margie Moran is 5'6 and both won Miss Universe too. Winwyn's height was not a problem at all. Only people really love to bash beauty queens.

The Philippines is a former part of the defunct Spanish Empire' that's why most of our names are either Spanish or American we also became an American territory for 50 years... Yup, it's the only Asian country that is formally & officially invited at the Reina Hispanoamericana...

We were a former territory of the US, like Puerto Rico. And our language is consist of thousands of Spanish words that even Latinos, Spanish and Portuguese could easily adjust when they visit our country coz we speak English and our language is like a broken Spanish when Spanish speakers hear us.
Because Philippines is qualified to joined there. Spanish takeover the country for more than 300 years !

Yes! We have the right to be included in that pageant because we are colonized by the Spaniards for more than 300 years! We have the Spanish culture in our customs and traditions that's why we should be included in RHA. I think you should educate yourself first before asking non-sense questions like that when google and internet is always available to feed your poor mind:)
