@@Ishidres Pretty much. Before role Q it was either GOATS or 4 dps, and when the former started to become extremely popular and a lot of people complained, Blizzard decided to do Role Q. To balance out the either GOATs or 4DPS meta. It was highly controversial. Now I think everyone is enjoying Role Q. But I agree on both sides: Goats was cancer. It is truly a brain dead, charge in with low risk comp. Too much health and too much dmg with literally undying tanks due to 3 healers. Rein's melee does a shit ton of dmg, but with GOATS having Rein literally not die, Rein could just charge in at any time with a zarya bubble and start hammering anything and everything, while getting constantly fully healed. But at the same time, teams who were coordinated and rank 4 dps comp, was truly op was well. So it was either 4 dps or GOAT. Role Q fixed that. No more GOATs, no more 4DPS comps, just a balanced 2-2-2.
Don’t you see what they are doing? The Korean meta has evolved past getting the most value out of their abilities and has shifted towards complete mind games. This wasn’t a wasted fire strike, it was a window into the minds of the other team, establishing control over the other team on the first push is groundbreaking. If this was a misplay, then it was an intentional misplay. This is Korea we’re talking about! They’re using the awareness and gamesense of the other team against them. You thought this was a misplay, this is goats vs goats at the top level. This fire strike into a tree was probably the single most important play in this entire game. Mind games like these are not to be underestimated.

Ironically, the way to beat them is also a current meta. Stun meta. Essentially, high displacement and/or high stun heroes such as Brigitte, Lucio, Pharah, etc, can knock their charge out of position. Another well known military tactic is to merely move around them. Scorpion tactics were implemented purely to counter this strategy. As strong set of flankers with a flanker tank (I.e. D.va, Lucio/Mercy, Reaper/a select few other flanks) would allow the main side of team being charged to just scatter, meaning that on offence the GOATS team is now off the point and you are on it.
@@hannesbaum9318 blizzard panicked and 2-2-2 was formed. They didn't really have a response towards Goats comp. They made new heroes, did nothing. Nerfed heroes, did nothing, buffed dps, did nothing. 2-2-2, stopped goats comp.

Just gonna point out that Roar actually kept fire-striking walls and objects throughout the 7 game series(KDP vs Runaway Korean Contenders Season 2 Finals). Don't know what's his obsession with it man. Edit: Might be Bumper instead, couldn't remember which Rein, but 1 of the Reins kept fire-striking objects.
Generally speaking it's not a bad idea to miss a firestrike on purpose against Zarya. Firestrike is pretty much free charge for Zarya since it's super easy for her to react too. Pretending like you are going to fire strike makes her waste bubble and as a result nets her ZERO energy.
Interesting that you mention that GOATS team is fading into obscurity, but 3 of their players are very successful OWL players. Reiner(Sit) just led Glads to their second stage title, Coluge with SFS have an unbeaten normal season record so far and Gator led his team to the grand finals last season. It's cool to see how far they have come since T3 Overwatch.
Well at the time, the players were fading into obscurity. Since the video was made a few months after their historic 3-0 vs NRG in the BEAT Invitational. However you are right, it is great to see how all three tank players were thriving, except right now, Reiner is in bad health, I really hope he can get better.

There is only one way to play goats wrong and that is to be timid. If you have even one CoD player on your team that is use to hit and run strategy then you are screwed. This style is 100% go ham. You live you win you die you loose.

The way London countered Philadelphia at 6:45 was beautifully done! I dont know how you can proceed this perfectly! The timing of everything when half of the team came out of spawn so they could beat them together. But the play from Gesture and Nus was the best moment. So smart!
7:53 hello I'm from the future, season 2 was dominated by goats, but thank god we have rolelock now, so goats isn't playable anymore and we can all be happy about 2-2-2. Season 3 introduced us with hero bans which make the game more interesting, cheers out
How to counter it: In theory, you take advantage of what goat lacks aka lack of map control, mobility and ineffective at mid to long range. Execution on the otherhand tho...
@@fierrect6089 the statistics of people bitching and complaining? the best comp in the game rn isnt even goats, its a sombra dive comp. Winston, Dva, Sombra, Doomfist, Ana, Lucio. Both sombra and doomfist are great against brig. if you go on overbuff she isnt #1 in anything (on weekly setting), and in gm setting on weekly she isnt even top 6 in anything (besides tie rate but that stat doesnt mean much of anything).
goats is what killed ow1. even after they implemented role queue the damage had already been done. people dont understand how actually overpowered goats was at the time, it shifted the meta overnight pretty much. if you weren't running goats, the other team was going to and they were gonna win. i remember times where before the match started, both teams would agree to not play goats just so that they could play something else and have a little fun. this went on for almost 2 years and the game had only been out for about 2 years at this point so by the time role queue was put in, goats had been meta for 2 out of the 4 years that overwatch had been a game. every hero that couldnt be fit anywhere in a goats comp saw little to no play at all, you wanted to play dps? nope you have to play tank or support and only some tanks and supports. and you have to remember that before goats was the mercy meta where there were 12 players on each team because she would mass rez every 30 seconds. ow2 seems to be going a lot better in the regard of every character feeling somewhat balanced, some are of course a little stronger but thats just how games are but i cant stop feeling like some owl team is gonna find a broken comp and its gonna be meta for the next few years before blizzard fixes it.
Whats next?! 5 healers 1 tank? 2 tanks 4 healers? The world does not know yet... Only time will tell... 5 dps 1 healer? Mei, Bastion, Soldier, Sombra, Reaper, Brigitte? (the reason i thought this might be good is because they all are able to heal :3)
next comp will be 4 heals and 2 tanks or 1 tank 3 dps and 2 heals. Heck it can also be quad dps and 2 heals. Tanks are fcked in every patch and dpses gain while heal is still way to powerfull.
Actually played goat for the first time today even before watching this as a joke in ranked and it worked pretty well. And its hella fun to play too imo
Teams: realize that Zen provides plenty enough healing with three supports and now they have Discord Orb and some range Meta: stays the same for 8 months

I freaking love this comp to bits! (makes sense bc I main Rein and Zarya) I always get healz and I can play very up close and personal, AND Strike fear into the hearts on my enemies!

Ah yes, I have an oddly fond memory watching OWL GOATS despite my gold games being rife with GOATS 6 stacks that would roll me repeatedly…simpler times, that was my favorite era of overwatch
@@danchild9295 it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But it had the most fun gameplay experience imo. Way more strategy and cooldown management, a lot less clicking on pixels.
I can think of a form of 2 man "GOATS remover" consisting of roadhog and mei. the roadhog hangs back as the mei works on the frontline, and hooks one of the tanks. once the unlucky tank is hooked, the mei positions herself behind the tank and freezes them. if the tank survives the mei can wall and just keep the tank away from their team as the remaining teammates get to work, the squishies easier to get at.
I remember playing Overwatch ranked and having some of the most fun playing the game when queuing with some randoms playing GOATs. Something about the all or nothing feel of the comp just gives you a rush.

Moira is often swapped out for zen, so range isn’t a problem for goats anymore
then the issue becomes sustain, three off healers weren't enough for fat hp heroes like rein and dva

well some comps like 3 dps or even 4 dps deal too much damage for 3 off healers to heal up, so on rare occasions zen would have been swapped for moira

I can think of a form of 2 man "GOATS remover" consisting of roadhog and mei. the roadhog hangs back as the mei works on the frontline, and hooks one of the tanks. once the unlucky tank is hooked, the mei positions herself behind the tank and freezes them. if the tank survives the mei can wall and just keep the tank away from their team as the remaining teammates get to work, the squishies easier to get at.
This whole time i thought goats stood for GO After The Supports.
