In my teens I played Counter Strike 1.6 for 48hours lol, second longest game I played was Digimon World 2 on PS1 for 36h , now I just don't have time basis for anything

Probably because NES games doesn't have hours of gameplay unlike games today. You could beat a game like Mario in less than a hour. Also less loading game. Games today take more patience and much longer. You can just speed run in NES games!

Unless you had a game with battery backup, it was probably designed to be finished in one sitting. I know parents didn't want to let their kids pause the game for hours at a time wasting electricity. I know my friend had just finished defeating the technodrome in "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles", and my mum told us to turn off the NES, because we had to go out. The same guy that I just watched finish off the technodrome also said the dam level was hard. I mean OK, maybe the dam level is hard if you don't swap out turtles, but I watched a lot of stuff after that, that looked a LOT harder than defusing the bombs in the dam. Like saving splinter from the fake turtle.

Legend of Zelda is a perfect example of a game that took forever to figure out how to beat. I still have a few names saved from the 80's and they are STILL on the game. Mario....I can beat it fast NOW, but back then....no way. Something else to consider, back in the 80's, unless it was absolutely horrible weather and nothing to do, EVERYONE went out a lot in the 80's. There was a lot more to do.

TMNT II: The Arcade Game on the NES looks much worse than the actual arcade version for example! You could see big difference right away.

I bought an nes on ebay last april, it came with eleven games cubicle kickle, tmnt, tmnt 2 the arcade etc. back in 1988 or 1989 I was 8 or 9, I was in a big store with my mother and my older sister I remember seeing this nes on display and connected up to a tv and it had a copy of the first tmnt game in it. as soon as I saw it I went over to it and started playing it, this was coming up to Christmas time. as soon as I started playing it I was hooked and I just had to get one for Christmas, I remember the Christmas morning getting up coming up to the room to open the presents and when I saw I got an nes I could not believe it, other games I had for it were airwolf which I never played until I got a copy of it on the nes I bought from ebay. I had supermario bros, I think it was just 2 and 3 I had, tmnt was the first game and the first frustrating one at that i played. it took me weeks to master it but i did and it was a proud moment.
Kickle cubicle is a sweet and highly underrated game. You have to get through the first few worlds to the challenging levels. Then it gets really creative. Love that game.
I still remember getting my NES Power Set for Christmas of 1989 along with the original Mario Bros. arcade game, Super Mario Bros. 2, and RoboCop and then getting Super Mario Bros. 3 as a gift for graduating kindergarten 6 months later. I still have them all CiB (the same ones that I got as a kid too)...and I still cherish all those memories.

I love the terminology that non gaming adults used back then. I've heard cartridges called cassettes or tapes, they called game sales 'video sales', its just really funny to listen to.
"tapes" - that annoyed the crap out of me. But I understand why they called NES cartridges "tapes" because the size and form factor were much like 8 track cartridges, and that the US NES was deliberately designed to resemble a VCR due to "video game console" being a dirty thing after the US VG Crash of 1983. The same reason for the NES being named an "entertainment system" avoiding any wording that would label it as a mere "video game console"
My dad, brother & I used to be very competitive with each other on our NES back in the day with Super Mario bros 3, Dr. Mario & Blades Of Steel (Hockey game).
If you went from an Atari 2600 or perhaps a "TV Tennis" console to an NES, you would've been blown away. To put it in perspective, imagine going from an NES to an XBox One or Playstation 5

My uncle in Japan had Famicon and I got hooked. I was 5 years old at the time when I was playing SMB o the Famicon in 1987 and I still remember what it was like. I love the terminology that non gaming adults used back then. I've heard cartridges called cassettes or tapes, they called game sales 'video sales', its just really funny to listen to.
"tapes" - that annoyed the crap out of me. But I understand why they called NES cartridges "tapes" because the size and form factor were much like 8 track cartridges, and that the US NES was deliberately designed to resemble a VCR due to "video game console" being a dirty thing after the US VG Crash of 1983. The same reason for the NES being named an "entertainment system" avoiding any wording that would label it as a mere "video game console"

I mean, it's a completely new way to interact with media at the time, and seemingly overnight their kids went from going out playing with friends to playing games at every waking moment, their school work suffers, and they seem obsessed with it.

My uncle in Japan had Famicon and I got hooked. I was 5 years old at the time when I was playing SMB o the Famicon in 1987 and I still remember what it was like. Those were the good old days and now those kids are going into 30s and most of us retained the gaming spirit lol. Pretty soon when we get older, grandparents playing Videogames will not be so weird.
