I was very impressed by the negotiating over the scarf to I'll give you $1.00 one-time donation for a lifetime of premium benefits.
Thats good bartering skills, I didn't think shed go under a hundred.
This video should be titled "How to bargain efficiently in Hong Kong" 😜 it's very useful to understand how to bargain
Once you've seen some videos by Eileen, it's hard to look at others teaching Chinese on CZcams. Eileen is so genuine, with no attitude, no ego. - - and no filter she just tells it like it is.
stlev99 she’s genuine but it was funny seeing her barter with the shop keeper for the scarf! 😆 she was pretty good at acting there!
Eileen is the best Chinese teacher I have seen.
I think Eileen enjoyed her visits to Hong Kong and Macau. I hope to see a video of her walking around Taipei, Taiwan some time.
I'd love to see her in Taipei as well. Jiufen (close to Taipei) would be very nice too!
We should do a Patreon project to fund a trip to Taipei for her! I'll donate to that! If just everyone who has liked this video so far donated $5 we could get her $6,000 for plane tickets and hotel!
@@masonlang6933 plenty of time to fund raise then since Taiwan is not allowing anyone who isn’t Taiwanese or ARC holder entry because of the pandemic.
Remember, it's "Chinese Taipei" or the "Taiwan Province". If you say otherwise then Xi Jinping may become mad 😉
I think beside Chinese, you should teach bargaining! got that scarf for less than half the price! what a beast! Thank you always for your amazing content!
I have been to Ladies Market in Hong Kong and I can speak cantonese. My family told me you can haggle in these night markets but I usually haggle for like 10-20 HKD off. But you were able to get more than 50% off. I am amazed. I'm learning a lot in more ways than one. Haha.
I was also impressed. :-) I think it's because Eileen is not really interested.
I'm horrible at bartering, just when I'm not interested and start to walk away, the shopkeeper suddenly lowers his offer again and again. This is the only time when I'm successful at bartering.
Went to Beijing in '95. Found the haggling so tedious...I'm too lazy! Of course, things were way cheaper back then
The stupid thing is she's haggling for $15.00 USD, that's chump change especially for a cashmere scarf which you can get for a minimum of like $40 USD in the U.S. This is basically stealing from them at that point. It's almost unfair (assuming its real cashmere.)
@@cartoonhanks1708 It's still a fair amount of money in China and that's no excuse to get ripped off. China is the largest producer of cashmere so it will be cheaper and probably real. The price in the U.S is not a good indicator of anything. Also, you're meant to haggle. They set the price high because they expect you to haggle it lower or be a foreigner who doesn't understand the value of money. And she would not sell it at that price if she weren't profiting.
@@cartoonhanks1708 what you said at first seems to make sense, however you didn't take into account that in the US every single thing costs more on average because the average US resident just makes more money
While in quarantine, you’re the ONLY ONE that keeps me entertained by your story’s. Even not in quarantine your stories/conversations are amazing.
Keep it up!

看你的视频我已经提高了我的听力很多。多谢你。从越南
Is it just me? I really felt nervous in that part where Eileen tries to bargain for that cashmere scarf 🧣 😂 Btw, I love your videos soooo much! Thank you for always posting awesome contents.
She's a master
I think any self-conscious or socially anxious person like me relates.
She used to work in a clothes shop 😆 they can't rip her off
If it was me who is terrible at bargaining I'd probably buy it for 120 lmao
I just felt like :O she's so good at bargaining
Thank you Eileen for adding subtitles to this fantastic video.
Your videos are truly unique and watching you interact in daily life situations is extremely helpful because slowly but surely Chinese learners get an understanding of which words and expressions native speakers actually use in real life.
This is probably one of the most difficult aspects of studying any language. Rather than remembering words, getting a feel for which words native speakers actually use in which situations tends to take much longer.
Unless you live in the country whose language you are studying and interact with natives on a daily basis, this is not at all an easy thing to do and it's these kinds of videos which help you with this part of language learning.
Love the pinyin with the Mandarin and English subtitles. So easy to learn. Keep it up.
I am so impressed by the bargaining! Wow!
In my country bargaining is looked down on. So I wouldn't be able to bargain at all XD It would feel so bad like punching someone. Maybe you get used to it though?
Thank you for the great content. I am learning a lot from your channel. As a serious student, I will say that the most helpful part is the three tier translation you provide (English, pinyin, and hanzi). As well as the diverse vocab and situational setting. Thanks!
aaAaA I felt so uncomfortable during negotiations in the beginning of the video, lol. great content!
Thanks so much Eilen!! Your videos are amazing, a great way to learn real Mandarin!
Keep it up!!!
Love these journies, entertaining, informative and a great way to learn Mandarin.
Your videos are by far the best to help make the jump to having real fluency! Thanks so much for uploading them.
I love the travel videos and interview you did with the Englishman. Can you travel to Taiwan one day and walk around the nightmarkets?
I feel like this is the best video on youtube lmao, i love how you interact with camera and enviroment!!! Learning a lot 🧠
Yes!! This is the one I most wanted English subs for 😁
Thank you for sharing this quality content with us :D

Thank you Eileen! you are wonderful
Eileen you are the best Chinese teacher! I learned a lot of proper Chinese from you, thank you very much!
I'm so happy I can't understand a few words without to read the subtitles. I begun learning mandarin a few months ago and it makes me so enthusiastic 😊👍🏾🔥 thanks for sharing this beautiful experience and travel in Hong Kong
Eileen . You are amazing . Like the way you narrate the entire trip . You make learning easy . Double edge sword kind of teaching as we also get to know Hong Kong . Thanks
Bargaining skills on point! :)
从非洲看你的视频, 我 很喜欢。谢谢老师
Thank you for your videos. I’m a Chinese American who is trying to improve on the basic Chinese language skills I learning while growing up. It’s hard to find quality content like this for the intermediate level , thank you!
Thank you so much for your great performance and stories. Your stories are amazing. I like this type of teaching style. Please keep making. You are great, awesome and so genuine. God Bless You. ):):):
非常感谢你做所有的视频,对一个外国人学习中文来说有特别大的帮助。谢谢。从越南
Wow, I haven't finished watching the video yet, but this is such a great resource as always. 谢谢,你们!:)
You're right in saying 你们, the cameraman deserves recognition too :D
Excelente, muchas gracias! 谢谢!
My favorite channel to learn Chinese since 2016👏👏👏👏👏
Your video is excellent for intermediary learners indeed. The text appears in due time and in the three relevant versions for learners. You are informative, modest, highlighting the " chinese spirit", your smile and enthusiasm wraps it all beautifully. I think it would benefit to be split in two parts . You don't always have nearly a whole hour in a day and frequency is important in learning a language. In any case, big thank for your efforts! 真谢!
From Israel.
Thanks Eileen, This is just how I like to learn new words. In phrases and in context. Plus if I can't recall a word I just think of the images and it helps so much (eg orange, crown, character, lively, crowd, performance; all associate with the hornbill). Leaves flashcards in the dust. Just Perfect.
YES! Flashcards are almost USELESSSS and boring too
Not ready for this level but so great just to watch!🙂🙏❤️
Great video. You went to some of my favourite places in Hong Kong. 😊
Contenido sencillamente maravilloso. 从西班牙非常感谢!
Hi, I would say your channel is extremely helpful and intriguing. It's one of my inspirational resources in the Chinese studying path. I'm willing to seeing many videos like this. We honestly appreciate your dedication. Love u!!! 这是我最喜欢学汉语的频道。 感谢你!

amazing learning vlog ....
Beautiful way to explore language to all over the world throughout street business :)
很有用,谢谢
That's pro bargaining right there. I wonder what the cashmere scarf costs to the seller.
I love this HK video, Eileen. This is my second time viewing it, and I slowed the speed to 75. Now I can really see and hear the grammar structure if the sentences. It is so nice to learn Chinese from you. Xièxiè.
this channel is amazing ! . you are so cute . ayudas a muchas personas , que tengas muchas recompensas por tu hermoso trabajo . 加油 eellin 非常 非常 感谢 !
Your contents are helpful for ones who start to learn chinese. Thanks for sharing.
Nice method of teaching
I was surprised how much I understood! Thankyou for keeping the language simple because I was able to learn a lot. I think completely fluent Mandarin is sometimes too difficult for me to learn from.
很有意思的旅游。这样的视频很帮忙我们学习汉语。感谢
Amazing channel!
That tram (Peak Tower, or something?) really brings back memories; when you go on, it doesn’t feel like you’re at an angle but when you look at the skyscrapers they’re all bent! I went to the ocean park too but that didn’t quite go to plan because Typhoon Rammasun landed in HK the same day 😆

謝謝你😊
I've always wanted to visit China and Hong Kong but i won't probably, so i have to thank you Eileen for the wonderfull sightseeing tour :)

Love your video, Eileen!
谢谢你!
很感谢你们的视频。我是学外国语的。所以我总是支持你们的频道。谢谢。
You are number one!!! Hugs from Mexico😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😀🤝👍👍👍👍🤝🤝
Eileen you are pretty cool and proud of your achievements. 👍💪
谢谢老师
I'm surprised you didn't encounter any issues speaking mandarin in HK. Thank you for the video.
Exactly my thought.. In my experience, HK people get angry when you try to practice standard chinese with them... They imagine speaking mandarin is being OK with Beijing politics...
Suppose it depends where you come from.
You could make a special video where you go to a market just ro bargain- I loved the thrill of it.
Today i visited Hong Kong with my favourite tourist guide in the world !
great
I love HK, been 3/4 times. Hopefully go again soon :).
You are an amazing negotiator wow
Thank you Eileen for your effort! It has helped me a lot and I am paying for my premium account in these days. 我希望我能尽快用普通话说一口流利的基本对话。
我很喜欢香港。你的视频很有趣。
谢谢!视频很有意思的...上面的果子是番木瓜的。

Beautiful city
Eileen: Thank you for your excellent videos. Can you make some videos for native Cantonese speakers? Focus on common pronunciation problems (think Hong Kong speakers) and differences in expressions (曲别针 vs.
萬字夾)
43:40 : those are papayas. surprised to see them in HK since they are tropical fruits native to my region in South East Asia.
你很辛苦了。
The tree you were curious about was papaya trees
Yes, papaya or 木瓜 in Chinese :)
Thank you Rere! I later found out about it when I had a walk around the village with a local who spoke Mandarin. You can see that video here: czcams.com/video/Ljse1Y94N6o/video.html
good chinese teacher
Bargaining in the night market is wonderful. To degree is fun for both sides of the transaction. Almost 10 minutes in 2003 over about 50 cents US for a multi tool pocket knife. Was a victim of bait and switch in the Stanley market for maybe 4 or 5 dollars US. Most of the time I paid a fair price. I used the same approach in NYC Chinatown on Mott Street for a knapsack (started at 18 paid 14). My friend (a gentleman born in Hong Kong who came to the USA when he was about 12 years old) who was with me was shocked at my approach. I said to him I must bargain with the shopkeeper or she would not respect me. Recently did the same in Flushing for about two or three dollars when I purchased a few accessories for my new cell phone. The young lady obtained her dad's approval for my price offer. She smiled quietly when I said to her if I did not bargain you would not respect me. Sometimes its the small things in living that makes life a lot of fun.
God I love the guy at 8:30 I'm gunna start speaking like that haha
Thank you. I kind of sensed it deep down. Love is blind. Love her still; I think this does not make me foolish. I believe it is as you suggest.
There is no love of this kind to be found for now. In time and place who knows.
Moving on is hard considering how forced the situation upon me is.
I will go learn some chill. Panda hugz.
Ps I don't want to leave this coffee shop.
Wow you got her down to 65 Dollars xD
You are quite good at this.
