It should be noted that while Iran was playing Britain and Russia off each other, Britain and Russia were fully aware of this and more or less cool with it, as each realized that conquering Iran would trigger war with the other and each needed its military for other, more important places in the world.
Russia & GB: The funny thing is I know you are playing me, and it's working.

In one episode of history, millions have been died as a result of famine during world war occupation because the Brits were taking the grains to feed the occupying troops and the war front.

As a Persian, who actually read an entire book only yesterday about this very subject, I need to add, that although the information in this video is true, in a nutshell, lots has not being said. For example that the English invaded the southern part of Iran with their navy on several occasions, each time thinking, that would not face any resistance. They could not be any more wrong, as the Iranian civilians, lead by many battle hardened, fighters, who could not be bribed or bought off, despite many English attempts, fought back massively and defeated the English at their own game. The English than decided to use the tactic of burnt earth, by which they would destroy every house, every tree and burn off all land, so that the population would starve to death and therefore surrender.
The saddest part of this entire invasion is, that Iran was a neutral country during the WWI and wanted to have nothing to do with the entire war going on, yet over 10 million, yes, that’s 10 MILLION Iranian have died due to this massive starvation, which lastet 2 years. That’s half of Iran’s population back then. 10 million ppl have died, because they were not willing to comply with English and their policies….
England has still not apologised for that massacre and claim, that “only” 2 million have died anyway!!
Iran has never been colonised, because their ppl were ready to scarify their lives for their freedom and the future of their children. This is probably also the reason why, Iran has been listed as the oldest country on the planet in existence. Surpassing India, China, Greece and even Egypt.
Long live the eternal Iran 🇮🇷

History Matters:
Why didn't Tibet colonize Europe?

Why didnt Krygystan invade china?
Now you're asking real questions
@@thehoosher9322 they did. That's why it exist. The people were Turkish, and are native to Mongolia and Siberia. The area they live in may have been under control of CHina, but probably as a tribute state. The actual inhabitants were probably Persian people and the Turks and MOngols would often conquer and retreat. Hard to keep track , because most people don't care about that region. CHina probably sponsored one of the people to take over the region, because it's strategically important, but didn't want to truly colonize it, because it's too far away. and since they are turks, one of the mongol or Turkish leader would of asked them to help invade CHina. Mongols/Turks, are like Germans to the Romans. CHina would hire them to fight for them, but they would then betray and aid to invading CHina.
Honest answer, Tibetans may be disadvantage in Most European climates. Their blood contains genetic material form a long dead hominid. This allow them to survive in high altitude. The reason why this gene did not spread, maybe because it might be an actual disadvantage in lower elevation. Tibetans are known to be great warriors, despite how some depict them. There horses are actually considered to be one of the best. China insist to use them for war and trade arrangement were made for their horses. CHinese can't breed them, because what makes them superior is their stamina, because being raised in high altitude, gives them a high Oxygen carrying capacity. Tibet may not be able to conquer to far from their land, because what makes them and their horses superior warriors will fade away when they start breeding in lower altitudes. Many renown warriors come from mountainous regions, but they don't tend to create huge empires. Examples are Highlanders from Scotland, Ghurkas from Nepal, Armenians, who the Romans love to hire.
Very interesting.
if the people still think about this title, just remember Iran is home to one of historically major civilizations and urban settlements dating back to just about 7000BC
so it wasn't easy opportunity to colonized it

Then the u.s pulled out and the radicals said “Look we told you so” and they started to win power. In Iraq the u.s killed 1 million people over a lie. This made Iran desire a nuke in the first place which is justifiable. On top of that Saddam Hussein used chemical weapons against Iran and the u.s did nothing and even aided Saddam Hussein so Iran knew it needed a nuke in order to prevent that from happening again. If the U.S won’t protect Iran even when their enemy is using illegal weapons then the Iranian feel a nuke will scare all of its enemies.

From a certain point of view
Something not mentioned is that the Persian people had/have a unique sense of patriotism rarely found in many newly formed countries. Iran/Persia is one of the very few countries in the world that has existed as a nation unlike many other countries that were either a culmination of a bunch if tribes coming together or literally drawn up by other imperial powers. So to compare Iran to any other country in the ME or even greater Asia is comparing apples and oranges in the sense that they don't share the same history.

Correction: The 1919 Anglo Iran Agreement was never implemented nor was it ratified by Majles (Iranian Parliament) and the king (Ahmad Shah) despite his being enticed by the British to financial rewards. In fact it was a secret deal between Iranian PM (Vosuq) and British ministers Cox and Curzon. But once it went public, there were protests, both in Iranian parliament and on the streets which persuaded other world powers like France, Russia and US to oppose to it. Also noteworthy; what is overlooked in the above clip is Iran's relations with the rest of the world (almost all major European nations had embassies in Iran for centuries, not to mention various consulates) which helped her keep the balance of international powers as an independent nation!

One of the reasons why Britain wanted Iranian oil so badly was because the USA and USSR both had oilfields in their core territory. Oil=money=power
USSR oil was largely extracted by territories they took from Persia, modern Azerbaijan.
@hevnervals Was the USSR exploiting oil reserves in Siberia at that time? My understanding is that they were discovered in the 60s, and account for the majority of Russia's production today (and Russia produces far more petrol today than Azerbaijan- though of course, that was an important source for the USSR)

These may be "short" animated documentaries, but a surprising number of them are long enough to have a summary recap at the end!
Iran: *exists*
Britain, Russia, Ottoman Empire and now the USA: *and I took that personally*
This guy always brilliantly and quickly explains great questions that nobody ever really asks but are always surprised at how much they actually want to know the answer.
Just pointing out that I really like those post-credits clips, Keep up the good work!
I am iranian and I study history and thanks for your video
Thanks
I’d be interested if you do a video on Siam/Thailand and how they survived imperialism
France and GB kept it as a buffer state between their colonies.
It's basically the same story as Iran, just replace Russia with France.
@@ppaaccoojrf coincidentally, russia and france were allies.
I love how engaging these videos are. Like, I can’t be the only one who sees something I never thought about in my life, got interested, and watched the entire thing? And the way you set your videos up, they’re simple, but great, and they make for a very entertaining channel. Much love man 💜
It would be nice if you could also make a video about how Afghanistan stayed mostly independent
Thank you for examination of my country
Upstart Britain and Russia were outplayed by the oldest nation in the world ! This video made me a patron! Great job !
Japan has entered the chat
I mean I think China probably gets that title but funny meme
Not oldest I think but it is old.
@@boulderfrogboulderfrog6512 not oldest civilization but the one which introduced the concept of a country as a political unit like we know today.
British ambassador: "We'll trade you protections for Persian rugs"
Persian ambassador: "We don't make wigs for nobody"
"To thank Persia for its sacrifice and hard work, it made sure that, as a result, it would be left independent forever more .... Just kidding"
This guy is hilarious. That had me rolling.
Bang on
Thank you, I never really understood that time period. This explained it clearly.
Here is an Iranian take! have a look at the topographical map of Iran. Soon you’ll realise that a ground invasion by any modern army is virtually impossible.
Bullshit. Afghanistan is even more mountainous than Iran, and they were easily invaded by the USA and a new governments was installed. What are you talking about.
Rezâ Šâh Pahlavi
Did you see a ground invasion? US bombed from above, and the mountains absorbed it like firecrackers. I never said they cannot invade. Just not a ground invasion which is necessary for long-term occupation and eventual colonisation.
And Afghanistan was never fully colonised even by the British because of this very reason. The Brits fought 3 major wars in Afghanistan and finally left in 1919. Today, US having not learnt from history is pulling out with their tails between their legs too. Afghanistan is not the flatland of Iraq, nor the British India, neither is Iran which incidentally can put up a much stronger fight than any of the countries mentioned and has a viable air defence to control its sky.
Rezâ Šâh Pahlavi
What does colonisation mean? Its not just dominating a nation and imposing your authority over them, that is called occupation. There needs to be a migration of settlers other than the indigenous people so to gradually impose ones religion, cultural policies and economics. Colonisers restrict the occupied countries from trading with any other country other than their mother country. This is not even the case with Iraq today mainly because of Iran.

I conquered Iran yesterday night with Arabia. Got dem Mamlukes all up in your crib. Check out my realistic Eurasia map where Iran is great. I love Qeshm. It was Spanish property once, so my people have something to do with Iran.
I wished iran was still named Persia, its such a badass and exotic name
Iran is the name the people of the nation call it. Endonyms vs exonyms
@@omidm.935 Yeah I know, it's the land of the Iranians, but Persia sounds better
Persians are one of the Iranian tribes, but the name Iran is a general concept, meaning the land of Aryans or the land of nobles.
The "just kidding" line made to laugh so hard
I like how this channel answers questions i never thought of and that i am genuinely interested in
Your videos are always so concise yet informative. Great stuff
I think the British induced famine in Iran is worth mentioning. Iran barely survived the colonialism. Just barely.
There is a small after supporter part
I was waiting for the WW2 occupation to come up, then I got right to the end of the video...
Indeed, they were never colonized but they did have persistent house guests for awhile.
well cause that was an occupation... not something formal
But it was technically conquered if that's the case. And while it was informal it was still under joint occupation.
@@ploegdbq 23 days and kick those uninvited pedos out like retard fools hahahah
@@ultraishere8128 It was not an occupation, it was a 23 day battle and both Russia and England were chased out, unless you wana go with the Wikipedia delusions hahahh

Great video! Can you do the next one about how Ethiopia avoided being colonized? I think Iran and Ethiopia are the only two countries which were never colonized.
And Japan also
@@sarfaraz73 Japan was taken over by the United States after World War II. We were relatively nice colonial masters and let them have their independence after a short time, but they were indeed colonized.
Believe or not Somaliland was never colonized too!
@@somalistories5037 Right, but Somaliland is not recognized internationally as a sovereign country.
@@selohcin but when ever.
it was only a military occupation.
following your logic, Italy is an Anglo-American colony because it was occupied during WW2.
Japan was NEVER a colony
I’m from Iran. This video isn’t very accurate. Yes, Iran was never officially colonized but ever since late 1890s, Britain’s influence started growing. A coup happened in 1920 against Ahmad Shah which is believed to be supported by Britain. The coup leader, Reza Pahlavi, perhaps the most controversial human being in Iran(half of the people think of him as evil, the other half as a saint, I don’t give a sh*t), was crowned as the new king 5 years later by the vote of the Parliament. 23 years later, more or less, the Allied leaders had a meeting in Tehran, Iran’s capital, and somewhere around that meeting, they decided to overthrow Reza Shah and place his son, Mohammad Reza Shah (Shah means King btw). He remained king for 37 years and except a few years around 1955 when Mosadegh was PM, Iran’s oil was mostly a British asset. Although both Reza and Mohammad Reza were more independent and powerful than Qajar late kings, These two still had to sometimes obey UK and Later US leaders in some fields. Off course most Iranian, specially in Social Medias, love these two kings and will say that everything I wrote here is bulshit, that Pahlavi Kings were angles. I guess this quarantine is a good time for you to find out the truth yourself :)
When did anything the Brits have produced about Iran ever been accurate?
LOL it's just reactionaries tbf . Current Iran is muh bad guy and everything was all rainbows and cupcakes before 1979 therefore the Pahlavis were great rulers .
1:06 "Surviving!" Unofficial Persian national anthem, Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

Cheers Iran. I Couldnt immagine how different our countries would’ve been if we were colonized 😂 🇹🇭🇮🇷

Anarchy The Fox europe is rich bc it colonizing countries in it which stole and stepped on others to grow.sounds pathetic and worthless and as all can see def declining at this point
I can say why, but in all these videos I laugh every time they do the whole guy running through a field of flowers thing.
I am surprised that the captions nailed his words, including when he read the names of his Patreons
