Gabriel Medina Is Absolutely Unstoppable Right Now
The best way to describe Gabriel Medina in this event, is as a human highlight reel. He's solidified the fact that he does his best surfing in heats, and that these performances could be stitched together into a freesurf film that would go toe-to-toe on an ability level with just about anyone. What's scary is that Medina usually takes a few events to warm up. This year, he's come out swinging.
Medina hasn't missed a final all year, and is now back on top of the podium and the world rankings. He hit sections today that very few people on the planet would attempt airs off, with all the pressure of an elite-level heat.
As Wayne "Rabbit" Bartholomew said on the broadcast, the gymnastic ability he brings to surfing is unmatched.
In his final against Conner Coffin, he's essentially stitched it up with 20 minutes to go, with an 18.77 heat total (out of a possible 20). Coffin's only way to win would have been to go to the air, and that's just not his strong suit. Still, this was his second Finals appearance, and the first since 2016, so a solid result for the Californian.
"I finally could surf the way I wanted to in a final, just with waves and stick my airs, that felt really good," Medina said. "It feels good to win, I was missing this feeling."

Medina is a 👽....shock he is very very good in all type of conditions, like big barrels, small, medium waves, knows how compete in all levels!
I love him because he is simple and humble, surf like no other, even though a lot of haters of him...perhaps jealous or because 99% those people has no idea how to surf, or how surf it’s difficult!!!
4 finals in a row 2 in Pipeline deserves to be number one, no doubt about that!!!!!

Obrigado WSL por ter colocado o Conner Coffin na final, sinto pela vergonha que ele teve que passar mesmo a WSL inventando uma nota 8,77 só para tira-lo da Kombi, mas o vexame já estava sacramentado.
Ninguém falando da onda over scored do Conner. E o comentarista ainda tentou justificar a nota 'the best wave of the heat' haha Ninguém no campeonato inteiro ganhou nota exceltente com uma batida no crítico. A onda do Yago foi mais crítico e ele ganhou nota 7

Dont personally rate Medina as an ambassador of the sport, but his surfing in beachbreak gunge like this or his prior contest performance record in powerful reef/point waves of consuquence is fire. Going to be super hard to beat this year if he maintains this kind of form into the finals day with the WSL wave selection/type of trestles.

My other comment was: Italo and Gabriel are the best surfers right now and are so fun to watch. But I also admire the surfing Connor was doing.
