Magnetic resonance spectroscopy allows for analysis of relative concentrations of certain metabolites in a specific location in an MRI image. Here we will look at water and fat suppression, signal localisation (using PRESS, STEAM or multivoxel sequences) and briefly discuss certain metabolites used in brain imaging.
This is intended to be an introduction to the basic physics of MRS and nothing more. Clinical interpretation of MRS will be discussed at a later date.

Not sure if the question banks are for you?
If you're here, you're likely studying for a radiology physics exam. I've spent the last few months collating past papers from multiple different countries selecting the most commonly asked questions. You'll be surprised how often questions repeat themselves!
The types of questions asked in FRCR, RANZCR AIT, ARRT, FC Rad Diag (SA), ABR qualifying Core Physics and MICR part 1 are surprisingly similar and the key concepts remain the same throughout. I've taken the most high-yield questions and answered them in video format so that I can take you through why certain answers are correct and others are not.
    Happy studying,
    Michael

Hey Michael, thanks for always breaking down tough concepts with dedicated preparation and a brightening smile😊😊 would be grateful if you could take a few secs to clarify this quick question - can MR spectroscopy be used to image dural venous sinuses (e.g. transverse & straight sinus), or can it only be used to investigate regions in the brain parenchyma tissue?

Hi Dr Nel, thanks so much for this series, it’s great! Just bought the question bank package 😊I was looking at the SA colleges of medicine website and saw they ask quite a few questions about CT and fluoroscopy - do you have any good resource suggestions for these topics? Or will you maybe be covering them sometime?
