  • I saw a video from TheGermanofSodor recently, showing us why he thinks Ringo Starr had better narration than George Carlin and I agree 100%:

I’m going to say it right here, right now: IN MY OPINION, I don’t like listening to any of the US narrators of the show. George Carlin because he didn’t tell the stories as good as Ringo or even Angelis. Alec Baldwin because he always sounds as if he’s never interested in what he’s saying (this is most noticeable in Season 6) and Michael Brandon because he’s just plain awful. I mean, did he suck up a jug of helium before recording for each episode?
I know, George Carlin and Alec Baldwin are/were great actors and they did have the occasional good line read here and there, but when comparing them to Ringo Starr and Michael Angelis? It’s like comparing a plain piece of toast to a piece of toast with chocolate spread or strawberry jam on it. One is clearly better than the other.
Not just because I spent most of my childhood listening to Starr and Angelis instead of Carlin and Baldwin (or Michael Brandon, thank god!), but because both Ringo and Michael A. had much more energy to them and had a much better way of expressing the right emotions. When the story says Stepney was scared, Michael A. uses a scared tone in his voice. When the story says The Fat Controller was cross, Ringo shouts at the top of his voice. Not to mention, their line deliveries are much more rememberable, energetic and, at most times, humourous. Case and point: “Yyiiiikess!”
Yeah, there’s a reason both Ringo and Angelis are tied as my favourite narrator of the show. If you somehow like Alec Baldwin’s bored deliveries, more power to you. But, for me, I just feel sorry for those American fans who had to grow up listening to an actor who doesn’t give a crap.
