I want to say real quick in the comments that this mod is very much worth checking out; just because I have many issues with the way they balanced Torrent, the amount of love and care being put into it is staggering. If you disagree with my review, please, give it a try.
5:06 They specifically call out traversal as the main thing Torrent is good for, which is why they made him faster. Elden Ring has way too much empty space. He's more frail to compensate for that speed, and you can just craft the raisins if you really care that much. Also, outside of occasional drive-bys on weak enemies or repositioning in bosses like Fire Giant, I can't think of a time when I really wanted to do any kind of mounted combat. It's too clunky to bother with most of the time. As for Selia, they force you to actually engage with the area instead of sprinting past all the enemies and double jumping across the rooftops in 30 seconds. Or just skipping the area entirely with the one branch. I really don't see the issue.
The issue here is that someone else decides how I should play a game. I don't get it. If I like to explore Selia, I will do it. If I want to run through it, why the hell I can't? This adds nothing but frustration. Totally agree with the author of the review on that.
If they simply just had the poison swamps affect Torrent, that would’ve been fine. It’s a nerf to Torrent where normally he allows you to just breeze through and yoink any at all items you want, and instead forces you to take precautions when traversing the swamps. Like when to and when not to use Torrent, it even gives the raisin items a purpose that they didn’t have in the base game. But restricting Torrent this much, especially in Sellia, and hammering in such a hefty damage resistance nerf when moving, completely neuters the poor ghostly steed and sticks him into just being transport, rather than another tool to use in the game’s world.
i do think i like this mod a bit more than most people as i played the mod as my first playthrough and going back to the base game feels a bit too easy
This really seems like something that should have been a toggle. Or like I dunno some kind of area lock that you have to find one of the seversl macguffins they added to this game to undo the debuff. Most of the anti-torrent areas are already not a walk in the park with archers and large area attacks. These changes feel like they were made by someone who bruteforced areas meant for torrent on foot and assumed that because using torrent now felt like taking the training weights off that they were actually "easy mode" rather than intended. This feels like a common trend with these types of mods where lots of cool content and changes get added BUT there is just one specific change that reeks of "git gud scrub" that the mod author passive aggressively adds an option for it or dig the heels in further and add an option that kills you instantly while playing circus music if you toggle it.
it baffles me; reforged is so, so close to being the definitive Elden Ring Mod as much as Convergence was for DS3, but the more they started changing the actual world itself, the more damaging it becomes. I did not bring this up but there are some boss changes that are outright hilarious in how anti-player they are, but I felt the Torrent issue was such an overbearing part of this that all the good AND the bad don't matter with such a glaring hole
@@deejorno It's a problem a lot of overhaul mods have, especially ones that value difficulty, where the mod creators are obsessed with preventing any possible way the players could even slightly "outsmart" their design instead of outskilling it
While I totally agree and support 100% deleting horse cheese which is literally cheating in vanilla I also agree that taking away horse they need to come up with alternative that helps you get into places
Thank you for your information! I really liked your Video. You should keep up making videos.^^ Have you played "the Convergence" mod? I have seen it on nexus and wondered if it is a good mod.
I do! I really enjoyed making this, so I wanna weigh in on some other mods. Convergence is next, though I do plan on making a disclaimer that I am *not* really a magic user and its from the perspective of that.
bro, I did Selia level 1 because i wanted to get to Greyoll only to find out that when you aproach it, all of the dragons target you and that greyoll is invunrable during this time. Sellia was not that hard tho.
I actually *agree* with Torrent getting status'd, as it adds more planning and gives Rowa Raisins a decent usage. Why I didn't mention it is it's not as major an issue as the other heavy debuffs he gets.
Well, that is legit a dealbreaker. Like... I'm gonna be blunt. The mod author has their head up there ass. Torrent is why the game's open world WORKS. In other open world games now, I find myself wishing Torrent was in the game. Or a horse like Torrent. TotK would have been MUCH more fun if you had a mount you could just... summon, and also not worry about dying. So... yeah, gimping Torrent in a mod like this is just sadistic.
Okay hold on… so you don’t like that torrent has a damage debuff, but there’s an item in the game you can use that negates that at the cost of running vanilla speed? What’s the problem here? That just sounds like balance to me. You wanna run really fast? You’ll take more damage when hit. Wanna not take that damage? Then run a bit slower using the item. Making it so you can’t use torrent in camps seems pretty dumb tho
IDK if you have played base game Co-op but you cant use torrent at all in that. I mostly bring it up to say that places like Selia aren't bad with out the horse. It's just a different puzzle. I understand not liking having to do the puzzle on foot but its like 10 min of a 100 hr game. I also understand being frustrated at the encampments forcing you off torrent, sometimes you just wanna go zoom. But at the same time there are usually other ways through. The horse has a double jump... you can find a way. I feel like its similar to being upset that you cant ride torrent from Limgrave to Liurnia because you cant mount in Stormveil Castle. The game has obstacles you got to overcome to travel the world. Kinda just how it is. I also find it funny that you got through 90% of the torrent traveling in the game this way and then gave up. Its basically just a boss gauntlet after fire giant lol. Taking more damage on torrent is a massive L though. Would still like to be able to fight on torrent where I can if I feel like it.

5:05 the comment says "moment to moment" not "movement to movement"

Good video. Will you be making more like this?
I do! I really enjoyed making this, so I wanna weigh in on some other mods. Convergence is next, though I do plan on making a disclaimer that I am *not* really a magic user and its from the perspective of that.
You just reminded me why I quit this mod months ago (Selia) and why I will never touch it again (Selia)

You forgot to mention how torrent can now be effected by swamps despite being a ghost horse. Unless they changed that in the latest versions...
I actually *agree* with Torrent getting status'd, as it adds more planning and gives Rowa Raisins a decent usage. Why I didn't mention it is it's not as major an issue as the other heavy debuffs he gets.
Torrent was already way too easily staggered. Who the fuck thinks this is a good idea.
Just empty yapping in the 2nd part of the video, but I got interested in the mod now, will check it out

they really killed your BEST friend in the whole game... shame

Without Torrent you actually have to play the game. Oh no!!
I love comments such as yours. Keep writing them, they are a treat.
Moral of the story: Get gud
moral of the story is find better mods, not of one's personal skill.
You really crying about torrent being balanced
