  • This 1973 5-speed Porsche 911 is a rare conversion custom built for Hollywood cinematographer Haskell Wexler by Rod Simpson. The aluminum and fiber glass body was built by Danny McLaughlin, accompanied by the 350 Chevrolet installed by Rod.
The Porsche is now owned by admirer and friend of Haskell's, Kambiz Panah, in Dallas, Texas.

Cool Porsche. Danny was a great guy and built a lot of cars for people and the movie industry including some of the Barris cars.. I bought a 935 around 2007 that Dan had re-bodied after a wreck at Daytona in 1978. I had not seen Dan since he left the old shop and he was not at AIR much but when I called him and said I was in town he dropped what he was doing and we met at the new shop. He gave me all the info on my car and used my other 935, which had his M16 bodywork, as the example on the AIR website. RIP Dan

I remember drooling over this car when this was listed for sale in Los Angeles about 8 years ago, talked to Kambiz, and next thing I knew it wasn't listed for sale anymore. Every few months I try and track it down and have honesty kept looking for it ever since.... which is how I found it here. That being said, it's so nice to see that it's still with and appreciated by it's "original" owner. It's an amazing car and piece of history.

Just saw Haskell Wexlers Ol Yeller at Peterson Museum! I was fortunate enough to see this Porsche in person at a club event! It’s a beast in person & sounds wild! Seeing from this owners collection, that he has a good taste for rare cars. Take care of your collection & thank you for the ride!

Haskell's cars were truly unique, I remember his Jaguar E-type (DTM) build by Hollywood legend Dean Jeffries with a big Chevy V8 in it, also his Ol Yeller build by Max Balchowsky , and this Porsche 911 build by Dan McLaughlin in the 70's.... wow... just imagine this Porsche cruising in the fwy at 100mph in the 70's.... definitely surprised other Porsche owners!

I love the old cars. They are Raw, I don't need the new computer comforts... only AC, heat and the sound of the engine. The 930/935 slant nose were my favorites from Porsche. I do like the "Old and New" body kits for the newer Porsche's.
