    My mother immigrated to Canada in 1945 on board the Aquitania. Although it was fitted out for a troop transport, wounded soldiers and army nurse ship at the time. Another great British ship. You're probably not old enough to remember that ship Steve as it was scrapped in 1950. Love your tour of the QEII.

    My aunts took a trip on QE2 early on from New York. It's amazing how so much of it hasn't changed.

    I’m there right now, in my room watching this. This ship is incredible, god knows how it felt when it was still ocean going, but I genuinely feel privileged to be on it. Since your video, some things seem to have gone back the way it is still quite quiet albeit it is January but the term ghost ship I see used in a lot of reviews, queens room a function room the shops are closed and empty, the upper deck now a night club, I think just the lido is open, the duty free and other shops are all empty- circle k is a museum…it’s strange…. I know it’s quiet but I’ve seen another review after yours and they were closed too.. I’m not sure. So many places closed, getting worked on but you need to understand the sheer size of the ship, I don’t think it will ever be finished it’s a bit like the old saying of the forth bridge- once you finish you start again. I think had it docked on the palm it would definitely be more popular but Port Rashid is currently getting massively over hauled, new buildings, flats, shops etc and when that’s finished it will be a proper destination. I don’t think Peter the guide is still here (I believe he did leave and come back) I’ll correct this if any wrong info when I get up tomorrow, go for a swim in the pool, then head to the Lido and eat an amazing breakfast…. Then hopefully find a souvenir ship to take home….there 😢 wasn’t. Missing a trick there. I ended up walking around the crew end accidentally of course… some very original 60 fixtures and fittings! You missed the last entrance where you were reading about the gangway and queens grill[ there’s an original 60s cabin and a car lift with a rolls Royce in it!

      Thanks so much for the update.. that ship is certainly a special to many of us.. I'm quite jealous.. have a ball.. perhaps quite literally 😉
      I did see the roller in the lift there.. keep exploring it's the hotel that keeps giving. 👍👍

    Incredible. Breath-taking. From either side, she's a stunning and luxurious view for these eyes to behold. I'm talking; of course, about Michele. ❤❤😍😍💯. LOVE YOU BOTH!!💋💋💋 Thanks Steve for taking us around your new digs, ⛴️💖💖💜 QEII afternoon teas have got to be the number 1, on that sweet beauty. If the chef offered an opportunity, to put your spin on some iconic Australian afternoon treats to serve the whole ship. What would they be? ⛴️🥂🍰🥂🫖🥪 Well deserved treat for you both. ❤🧡💛💚💙🩵💜💖🥂🥂

      I think perhaps some decedent Pavlovas, single serves with local fruits and a little Gold leaf on peaks of cream to reflect the seas Mona.. Ohhhh la la.. Will that please you ? XO

      @Steve Owens mini pavs.. that definitely would please. Tease and give the heart a Sqeeze! I thought it'll be a mini timtam crusted tart with a Lamington.. coconut cream/chocolate filling. Too much work. One plate of Fairy Bread coming up.🥰😉😉🤗

    Late to the conversation, but that tall building is known as the Burj Khalifa. I just watched a vid of QE2's successor, the QE3, being built & then launched in 2010. The 2 ships' predecessor, the QE1 (launched 1938), in 1972 caught on fire in Hong Kong. For the QE2 to be now retired in Dubai in 2008 makes time seem even more compressed. When it was launched in 1967, the Queen Mary's (from 1934) last voyage to Long Beach, Ca, occurred. Meanwhile, there's the successor to the Queen Mary, QM2, from 2004. If today's Dubai existed in the 1960s, they probably would have outbid Long Beach for the QM. NYC in 1967 submitted a bid just a bit below that of the one from LB. Would be interesting knowing how the QM in the Middle East would have done compared with it being in the US. However, very dry, hot climates tend to preserve objects better than Mediterranean-type weather does.

    I was on her the first time with my parents in 1983. Cabin 4007. I sailed on her six times, my parents 21 times. They were on her last crossing.

    I still find this ship amazing and this old ship is small compared to the newer ones I guess. I had to look up some of the stats and its fuel consumption was 125 ft per gallon or around 4 metres to a litre geez. But then it was big and heavy.

    • @Steve-Owens
      @Steve-Owens  Před rokem

      By today's standard she's a small ship but there's something Graceful about that Gas Guzzler.. Although she was getting pretty good fuel efficiency on our stay buddy.. 🤣 Thanks for looking up the stats.. Are a a ship buff there Stevie?

      @@Steve-Owens I just am fascinated by the size of the things though I haven't seen one live right infront of me. As for fuel economy the size of the thing and weight that is the reason hehhe.

    Hi Steve and Michelle. LONG TIME NO SEE mates! Travelling in style I see on a Posh Ship. That ship brings back a lot of memories. The last time I caught up with you both was in Malaysia and Thailand and then back to Malaysia. Where have you been to since then? Have you been back to Ceylon or some other part of the world. Nice to catch up with you both again. See you both soon. Cheers!

      @@Steve-Owens And it's very nice to catch up with you both again. I have missed our "natters" and travelling places with you both. I had a few heart scares though not long after Christmas. I was somewhat concerned as I had By Pass surgery at the Alfred back in 2019, and a stroke back in late 2017. I am just relaxing now and doing a lot of reading and have often thought of you both and wondered where in the world you were now travelling in. Please keep in touch Steve and Michelle. I think a lot of you both and hold you both in high regard. I have decided to resurrect my hobby of fishing and hope to go chasing Australian Salmon, Gummy Shark and of course my all time favourite Flathead and King George Whiting. I need a little dingy like the QE 2 to get me out to the fishing grounds 🤣🤣. Have fun you two and take care my friends.

      @@AngusMacKinnon-xm5ko Sorry to hear you had some Health Hiccups Angus, I wish I had known earlier to wish you well. You're going to see a few videos over the next month that are out of Sequence as while I am back in Oz, I have been editing some lost footage from the past year or so.. We set off on and new Adventure just yesterday and I'll be sharing that just as soon as we know what it is LOL.. Just arrived back in SE Asia but not entirely sure where we want to steer towards (it's that fresh). Please enjoy this mini, retrospective series from Dubai and soon to be India. I won't disclose where we are just now as we haven't even recovered from the Sleepless flight :o) Take care and happy fishing :o)

      @@Steve-Owens Och Steve nae worries. Many thanks for the thought which is very appreciated. I shall look forward to your videos mate. They are some of the few things that keep me cheered up as travelling overseas for me has come to an end. Nevertheless, I can still travel around this "big Island". I don't need to visit India as all I have to do is to drive into Dandenong, where half the sub continent now reside (only joking). I will certainly have a happy fishing trip soon mate; me and my 14 fishing rods. Loch Sport is the place to go. it is quiet and the salmon there love me. Have a good sleep my friend and I will catch up with you tomorrow. Best wishes to your good lady Michelle. Cheers!
