Thank you Asher for taking this on. I am from Balochistan, for four generations we have lived in Quetta / Loralai, my extended family still lives there. The story of Balochistan must be told.
Religious, ethnic and linguistic harmony was the hallmark of Balochistan, which is shattered now.
I had never heard the term "Choora" as a youngster growing up there, the first time I heard it was on moving to Punjab. The religious prejudice was the first of many cultural shocks I experienced.
Thank you once again for opening up Balochistan.

First of all, that's a great initiative by you. It will give us Punjabi's a broader perspective of things and a chance to hear out different opinions.
    I have a few questions:
    - How do Sardars accumulate their wealth in Balouchistan? Do they collaborate with the bureaucracy and military establishment? What are the sources of their wealth?
    - The common Baloch has a limited media presence but why don't we see the powerful & wealthy Sardars contributing to creating awareness of the issues faced in Balouchistan?
    - Politics in Balochistan? (A question to you Asher Bhai) - After the 18th amendment, who is responsible for Balouchistan? Who controls the politics and politicians? Do Baloch people question their elected leaders? Or in the first place, do they really elect their leaders or is it a pure 100% selection (You might need a separate video on this one)
    Thank you,

The sardars accumulate their wealth form their business or just that they have a strong family tree and live off of the riches of their grandparents.
If they create awareness in the people that will undermine their power as people tend to look at the sardars as their saviors
Balochistan is in a pretty shitty state if you ask me. Iam a pasthun living in quetta and daily you can find people hating on the other because of there differences (at least from what i have experienced)

I look forward to your content, this feels like something that is much needed. I would like to share some thoughts which you can choose to turn into questions perhaps a series of questions for some of your tribal leader friends. The tribal code or way of life in general would seem to have common properties regardless of geography and culture, e.g. the one for all & all for one type of credo, the absolute sanctity of certain things like family units and women etc. All great values that increasingly seem to be romantic ideals to be aspired to never to be fully attained. Existence of autonomous legal and cultural codes that may clash with larger forces such as nation states & with the world increasingly becoming a more connected and less isolated, isn't this way of life almost obsolete? The most recent historical parallel may be the native Americans, shouldn't the focus now shift on re-educating the coming generations in a manner more in tune with the world as it is, because with the mineral wealth and natural resources they purportedly have, there will always be bigger and more powerful forces affecting the Baloch, whether its Pakistan, China or anyone else. So if any of this rings true, what are the thoughts of the Balochi tribal leaders on how they see the future for the Baloch?

    Sir, my Question are following:
Firstly, I'd like to say that being a patriot, and a concerned citizen, i love Balochistan. I've many friends over there, though i am a Punjabi, but i understand all of the problems of Balochistan. And, i deeply regret what has happened to them, how they have been ignored.
    1) Now, the question is: what can a concerned citizen of Pakistan, though facing the same level of poverty, can do for our brothers and sisters who live in Balochistan? I'm not rich, but I'm fairly educated, maybe I'm among the educational elite of the country. What can i do? How can i contribute towards reducing the pain of the people of Balochistan? I'm deeply concerned about them, their pain keeps me awake at night, it is depressing how they are living there without no water, no food, nothing. How forced one would be to pick up arms against their own country, and kill those who have no part in their misery. If i can teach, or teach People online, send some books to students. I'd gladly do that.
I'm not the fortunate one financially, but whenever i will be, I'd like to help. And, I'm sure there are many who want to help. What is the way to help?
    2) There is a common notion in Punjab that the Sardars of Balochistan use all the funds, and store all the money in their houses. The money never goes to the people. Please, clear this misconception.

I think people of balochistan should learn a lesson from South India. South Indian people were always marginalised and got stepmotherily treatment in India and now they are most developed and economically well off people across the India. No South Indian actor got any chance in bollywood and now there own industry is earning more than bollywood. They have travelled to gulf countries and established businesses over there e.g. lulu and Manama hyper markets and much more. So instead of finding reasons and blaming others and playing in the hands of hostile agencies, I thinks it should be finding new ways to prosper. Balochis have a considerable representation in gulf countries and a few have nationality of Oman and UAE, they are very courageous and deep rooted people, its all about realising your potential. I agree there is a huge potential of tourism in balochistan which cannot be utilised until there is peace. Its also a state failure that it cannot satisfy a population of merely 6 million. I think we all should work together with positivity and sincerity to address the grievancess.
Please accept the reality that there is poverty everywhere in Pakistan and no one is living a quality life. If we keep fighting each other, we can never prosper.
    So let's grow together ❤

    1. The tribal leaders are really sincere to do two things for their people? First Devolution of power and second is fairly distribution of resources?
    2. What have they done so far in their personal capacity to uplift the life of their people?
    3. Do they accept if a layman or a very common man become the leader of the tribe?
    4. Very important question, what made Balochistan so much disintegrated from Pakistan?
    5. Why we do not see such desperate voices from these sardars (elected people) but from separatist parties like BLA?
    6. Do they really represent their people in parliament? What legislation have they done for the betterment of their people in Balochistan?

Bro here is a big misconception which people don,t know, the sardari system which u see tody in balochistan is not the system which balochistan had during khan kalats era, this system has been imposed by britians, during khan kalats era sardars had no such powers or wealth, they were choosen by their tribes people through voting, they were like governers, britians empowered these sardars, distributed lands among them so they could over throw khan of kalat from power, after independence khan kalat was thrown out of power and these sardars were owned by the establishment.

It's them who don't let any development happen in Balochistan, don't let their people get education and are hell bent on keeping their people in dark ages. And I honestly believed all that until I dug deeper into the issues leading to their separatist movement and how badly the state handled all that.

    Dear Ashir Azeem,
I also want to add my sorrowful question to your list. I hope it fulfills your To Be Asked questions criteria. Firstly I really appreciate your content, I too am an international student studying on scholarship in Germany, I feel a huge difference and only if I pin my agrument to freedom, In Pakistan we are even deprived of that so Thanks alot for spreading awareness.
My question is sir, I myself am from a very humble background from deep mountain ranges of Pakistan: Karakarum (41 km to Gilgit City, Takes 3 hours to reach with 4×4 SUV), In our village we don't have any carpeted roads, No hospitals, No highersecondary school, No electricity, No gas, Just like balochistan people of GB are also murdered brutally on their single known all season route to their home land. We also gained our independence on our own without Pakistan's help and above all we as a whole province for the last 80 years neither have our own representation in NA nor in Senate (We sometimes ask ourselves either we are even considered citizens or not). But with due respect we struggle with peaceful protesrs. We don't blow our selves up and kill people, why is that Balochs are becoming a hurdle instead of rectifying our beautiful Pakistan?

You have a chance to be listened in the largest house of Pakistan called parliment, and if you can't convince your representatives to fight your cause in house then I guess you need to understand where the problem really lies. Seperatist movements is going to strike Balochistan much deeper e.g. no tourism no industry, increased poverty etc. I think fighting for the cause is much better and having a blessing of electing your representative is much greater blessing. we people from Gilgit are even deprived of that why is that we are not blowing ourselves up rather providing safe heavens for tourism and fighting our case in silence through peaceful protests. Why can't balochistan learn from Gilgit?

Dear Ashir, a question for the tribal leaders, I hope you'll add this question since it is a hard one.
I once saw sohail warraich's interview with nawaz akbar bugti, and there were two cruel practices observed by him:
1- Why did he use to walk people over coals? How is that justified considering the fact that he was highly educated?
2- Sohail asked him about his lawn which was perfectly green, and to quote him "apkay ghar ka lawn aur garden tou sarsabz o shadab hain, jabke bahar logon ko pani pina nasib nahi". Does this not show the cruelty of the leaders of Balochistan?

Why didn't Balochistan get more diverse and populated? is it the climate conditions? lack of econimic activity? security? I'm wondering will Balochis appreciate if govt makes it a tax free zone (just have some provincial tax)? Wouldn't population grow there this way, if businesses flourish, more taxes would be collected and spent on people there?

Wonderful initiative sir. But not recommended to start off with a feeling of disgust for Punjab, which seemingly you seem to develop seeing one odd regrettable incident. I love my country and that love includes people lovely people of Baluchistan. Being your big fan allow me to say that there is an element of naivety in your opinions regarding factor of outside interference to create this wedge more deep between Baluch and other part of country. There are all sorts of Sardars in Baluchistan and chowderies in Punjab. Good and bad both. Although tribal culture is much stronger there as compared to Punjab but that is not necessarily beneficial for populous just like any where else. Monopoly of resources is not good anywhere. Extreme Brutal incidents by headstrong elites can be seen both at Baluchistan or any other part of Pakistan. I would suggest to talk of beauty of Baluchistan and problems of Baluchistan but not at the cost of degradation of any other part of Pakistan. BTW Sir, because of this deep divide between Baluch and Punjabis being created by outside influences, in last 5 to 8 years most punjabis are being forced to leave Baluchistan which spent their whole lives there just like your family just because they were punjabis . Baluchistan is no more a homogeneous place as you left it. I also spent several years of my life at Quetta 8n particular and Baluchistan in general . In my opinion learned people like you should make an effort to reduce the deep wedge between Mighty Baluch people and other part of country specially Punjab. There are few very wonderful values possessed by Baluch but so are by other provinces. I personally love to be at Quetta and other part of Baluchistan and always love to go back there but the element of outside interference with the help of FEW elites cannot be completely disregarded. Really sorry for long remarks and they are not intended to hurt someone feelings . Only an effort to show a wholesome picture instead of a partial one,. Pakistan zindabad

Sorry sir, with due respect id disagree with u. I am a punjabi myself born, raised and settled in punjab. Wht sir Asher has said as his observation about happening in punjab is so very true in current era. In my fathers days of youth i e 70s to 90s punjab yet had a social fiber based on, families, gujar, awan, arain etc but in time with population, unchecked wealth and ethical degradation. The punjab of today is totally as stated. Its a lawless land where elite and rich (might) have the right and privileges and neither the state nor social fiber of the society can shield a poor a woman or a child. So in my humble opinion, lets for once hear an open and candid opinion without being judgemental. We didnot do that in the 60s and lost the East Pak. We need to be wiser and more open minded as masses in present era, not to see it get repeated again

    • @hasanrizvi7410
      @hasanrizvi7410 Před 2 lety

Dear Najam sb, I think Mr Asher does not have anything against the Punjabis. It's just that he has been stating brute facts.
Everyone knows the army and beaurecracy is dominated by people from Punjab, which is understandable because of the population of Punjab and the standard of education there is way better than the rest of Pakistan, but what our point of discussion here is that how this ruling class which obviously includes other provinces has been and is dealing with the Baloch conundrum.
Further, I agree with you to some extent on the point that there is deep rooted hatred from Punjab. Because, I live in Karachi, and I've seen this hatred rise is the recent past. This is because common middle class people here believe that Punjab is being developed at the expense of Sindh. This includes poor infrastructure, high street crime rate, and what not. And yeah this is because of multiple reasons, some say its the curse of 18th Ammendment and PPP's rule in Sindh. But, the narrative of Punjab being developed at the expense of Karachi is by far the most popular.

Well let me put forward some facts. Although its very difficult to give logics in today's Pakistan as people are so much personality oriented that they even can't hear against them considering them some super humans. So your admirers may absorb this.
    1. Referring your Lahore incident, there you saw land cruiser wala only beating poor man but recently we saw land cruiser MPA killed a poor traffic sergeant and no tribe came out to beat him as you were saying and he living freely.
    2. We see cruelty by nawab bugti where people are made to walk on burning coal bare footed. No tribe men beat them for such cruel acts. Sardars in Baluchistan move in a cavalcade and no poor man can dare to come in their way. By mere giving one example of some nawab sitting on floor does not mean all is well. Why don't these nawabs give same status to poor.
    3. Here in Punjab, people are so hospitable that a baloch can roam around freely and live freely and people are living and no Punjabi is bothered but in Baluchistan, a Punjabi can not move freely and you know this very well. You were talking about Baloch people picked up by authorities, and you must know who are picked up but what about those Punjabis been killed in Balochistan and no one is ever caught so where actually guantanamo bay is.
    4. I have been to Quetta and there you will see common Balochi giving tanay to Punjabis and here in Punjab no one will give you tanay of being Baloch. And this is Quetta, so think about inner Balochistan.
And let us have some moral to say that she was a terrorist and she did the worst instead of finding excuses for her terrorism. Then every criminal has some justification. Two years back 3 terrorist ladies were caught I think from Turbat and they were forced to release just playing women card and Baloch card but we know that Prophet Muhammad SAW even did not intend to spare her daughter.
We need to live together and should have courage to say what is right and what is wrong.

      2. Also, everything has a reason if punjabis arent liked by the ppl of Balochistan that is because there are large number of Punjabis instead having all the opportunities within their province. They still move to Balochistan, prepare their documents and working on govt. Jobs boss around and living that life which Balochistans are supposed to have.
      3. As you said punjabis dont harm ppl of Balochistan that is because they already have enough on their plates. and They arent is insecure, that someone will be stealing the life opportunities that I am supposed to have.
