Completely disagree with this video. The Puma ST is the MOST fun car that is affordable around. Jump in and have fun. It drives AMAZINGLY
The filming and production of these videos have been epic the past few months. I don't know who's responsible but.... Take a bow.
It says in the credits.
You might as well get it out and give it a deep throat 😂
@@winning5298 bro what??😃😃😃
They won’t give you one for free
Wow it's amazing how salty people behave when someone is being positive. You guys need to take a look at yourselves. Negativity breed's negativity.
A Sunday evening with a Rory Reid car review... brilliant!
I'm actually a honda fan/ collector, and have several of them. But also have the latest puma st line 155ps. This review doesn't at all make true justice to this st. Forget what's said about the steering being too nervous or the brakes being too precise, it's a sports version of the regular car. And recaro seats are not meant for long journeys, they're performance oriented. I am actually going to trade my st line for this st. The only down side is the price. But again the amount of smiles per gallon or kms this cars gives you, its worth it. Honestly it is really reaily good car. Test one. By the way the gear box is excellent. This guy smoke something before this review.
If Ford put an AWD system in this... Think about that... this would make it so much better, and different from an inflated Fiesta
imagine when they return the car smelling like goldfish lmao
It be too heavy
That'd scream RALLYE PUMA HAHA
I think it would be awesome to then take that AWD drive line and retro fit it into a fiesta. Ford missed the mark on a potential Fiesta RS.
Not sure I agree. It would compromise the weight too much.
I do enjoy these reviews. Presenting the good and the bad in any tested car, refreshing! Please keep up the good work.
Surely someone who knows enough about cars and wants an ST, will want it for the exact reasons you've described you don't like ...? Surely if you want just a good crossover with comfy seats and adequate performance, you'll buy the next top-spec Puma (titanium model or something). The way you've described the driving experience is to me what a performance crossover, or a Ford ST car, should be. Otherwise where's the difference to the next spec.
There’s no excuse for bad brakes.
Different pads with different compound properties (less initial bite) will probably help make the brakes feel less like an on/off switch...
Excellent review. Tbh i dont really get a crossover ST from Ford. The majority of their sales are SUV's so maybe they're trying their arm at the sporty crossover. I'm sure people who are enthusiasts or want an ST car wil look more to the fiesta/ focus . Plus Ford need to really look at their pricing as quite a few of their models are grossly overpriced...puma ST included
@@AutoTraderTV The brakes are not bad! They are perfectly fine..omg
@@christian2427 I test drove one today and bought one, and the brakes are absolutely fine
I love the colour grading on these videos. High quality but pleasant.
I love the colour and the concept, and as a owner of the current Puma, I can't help that they've missed trick. The puma was the test bed for the mild hybrid which by all accounts is a cracking engine. What they should have done with the ST is stick the 1.5 and hybridise it! Not only would it be different, but also a test bed for Ford Performance and could have spawned a new Hybridised Focus RS. Such a shame! I was considering chopping mine in for one, but not much point.
As a very new owner of the ST performance edition model I have to say I'm having a blast and enjoying every minute of driving it, motorway, town and even the twisting back roads up here in the Highlands,it has surpassed my previous fiesta ST hands down. The only change to the car I made was to change the tyre's to Michelin all season cross climate 2's which has dampened the harshness down a little, more so in town driving, I did the same on my previous fiesta ST.
I did test drive several times the mk8 fiesta ST but I just found it much more likely a harder car to enjoy every day, Hench way I opted for the Puma.
It won't be every one's cup of tea but it tick's the important boxes for me.
I've just ordered a puma st in mean green colour, stunning looking car ,in my opinion it's a car that does everything, it looks amazing,it's quick an sporty an plenty room inside too , can't wait for mine to arrive it be September October time, only option I took was mean green paint and I chose the magnetite machined finish alloys they look amazing, I too am from Highlands in Scotland stay in fochabers and work in Elgin , great fun roads in Highlands for quiet driving or spirited driving, 🏴👍😁
How do you find the car in the snow with those tires in? I too have a Mk7 Fiesta ST and am looking at small SUV's next.
Real world MPG please? And suspension not too stiff for our pitted roads coz im in my mid 40s so Fiesta ST was a complete no-no.
Have you recently traded your Puma in because I was looking at one on autotrader that was fitted with cross climates all round which was very interesting and probably a rare thing.
do you still enjoy the car?
The colour reminds me of the Focus 2 RS, I really like it, it definitely choose it
Thank you Rory & team for another great, honest review, coupled with stunning photography & brilliant production. I love the autumnal vibe & the car looks great too.....pity about the brakes though.
I rate car reviewers that say what they truly feel. Not what will keep their rep with the manufacturers
Maaaaaann!Watching your videos in 4K is the best to ever happen to car journalism!!Just brilliant!!
As if Rory’s compared the ST to a Porsche Macan. What about the MINI Countryman Cooper S? All those hot Cupras? Come on.
Excellent old school review ! I like your presentation style !
The perfect car for a speed demon with family planning issues, the wifey will approve of the Puma. No doubt.
Fab camera work! Love the review.....I am so tempted!
Great video. Nice review. Keep up the good work.
Really good review. Technical 👍 but also fun. Thanks
I truly enjoy this man reviewing cars. Truly brilliant!
I've just had a Puma ST for a morning and found it to be a fantastic car (I already own an ST Line X). I disagree with the comments about the brakes, seats and steering - each to his own I guess...
I'm riding this exact car for 3 days now, the brakes are perfect. You need to get used to Gti/ Sports cars dude.
Is there more knee room in this then in the fiesta? I love the new ST but my knee hurts in the fiesta because the center console is too wide for me
I have now picked up my Puma ST so I'm in a position to say how and why I bought it.
I have moved from a mini Cooper S 2018.
The reason why I bought is because I needed a bit more room and something a bit higher (mini is very low). I wanted similar performance of which the Puma is just as fast. The steering is very similar to the mini also. Why he is saying its to sensitive is wrong. The ride is fine and not too harsh, again I'm more than happy. Oh and there's nothing wrong with the breaks.
Now the price which seems to be the big talking point...I have the pan roof, fantastic red and electric tailgate. These add up to just short of £2000. I paid £28.250. Now, the ST comes with extras that the fiesta doesn't. If you look at the fiesta ST3 you would still need a couple of extras to match the Puma ST spec. When you have done that, there's only about £1500 in it.
Now some people are looking at the Kona N with a price of £36.000. Now that is nearly £8.000 more. How can you class these as the same..........
So to close, there is nothing to match in this class really.
Hi buddy ,do you do long motorway runs any heads up on that journey re mpg? Cheers!
@Pete Mayes Hi Pete, yes we have done a few good runs. The standout trip was from Warrington (where we live) to Southampton when we went on a cruise last year. The trip was completed on 1 tank of fuel. I just cruised along at the speed limit, and there was a bit of road works. It was a round trip of over 400 miles. The average for the trip was about 45mpg.
@@andrewdent696 Andrew 45mpg in that Engine is great. My bmw 335d would have only managed around 3mpg more about 48mpg I reckon.I do about 350/400 miles a week.
As always, great production, and familiar scenery (Goodwood, where I film my videos, although my productions can't match yours!)
Big ups AutoTrader nice work
Well done C. We love 💕 your video mate from Oz.
the 'pew-ma' lol. gotta luv our homies across the lake
Yep that's how we pronounce 'u' over here. Are you from the Oooo-nited states then?
@@CadyCTSlover Its actually called Amurica.
It's not spelled 'Pooma', colonist. 😉
The first lease deal I’ve seen for these have them at £304 per month on a 1+35 payment & 8k miles per annum deal, which I think is pretty good for a £28.5k car
I wish rory was still on top gear
Top gear won't treat him right, he is better here.
Glad he not on there as now he is doing this. He was wasted on top gear
He’s better off here
I don't, he's more free here, and it shows...
Really good and fair review. Thanks Rory 👍
I almost bought a Ford Puma, but as soon as I sat inside when I saw and felt the interior I gave up, after that I divorced my wife, bought a new Mazda 3 Skyactiv X Hatchback🤔
Smart man
@@tyler9703 Thanks Man 😎
Did you divorce your wife due to the Puma?? Sat in the puma said nah want another car divorce wife to get it
The interiors on fords are enough to tip any man over edge and make him give up on life. I to fell victim, I left my wife and kids, don’t see them any more, now I just sit in a bed sit with no furniture in it staring at wall crying waiting to die.
@@johnlever6696 but it is about the fun of driving, to interior that is posh are for people that care more about har style etc. Audi and BMW are nice but they are boring cars. They too expensive for what they are
Your reviews are really great my friend. That was a very good analysis. I don't think the ST is the version for me, but will look at the standard Puma after seeing your review of that one.
Nice review Rory, interesting points about the brakes and steering. £29k does sound quite a lot, a few years back £30k was a Golf R but now a Golf GTi starts at about £34, think Civic Type R is around £33k. Prices seem to have gone mad.
They certainly have gone mad. Back in 2015 my brand new Focus ST3 cost me £24k, today they want £36k for an equivalent car. Just 5/6yrs ago that money bought you a V8 Mustang
yeah man Ive been looking for cars and its blowing my mind how much money you have to pay for all those options if you want some car these days a little abarth is already over 20.000 euro just crazy thse prices a big turndown but need to find me a car but dam over 20.000 euro for a new car is just crazy I think .... My last car was a Audi A3 2010 been driving this thing for 7 years now from 2014 but not wanna spend more money if it turns me down but it still driving fine at the moment hehehe...
The fact that we are comparing a freaking crossover to sport hatches makes the price worth it imo.
Try 2023 prices,really really mad
@@petemayes1940 absolutely nuts the price of cars now how can the civic type R be £13k more than it was 2 years ago!! It’s nearly a 40% increase!
Not sure what he’s on about with the brakes and steering, I have this and both of those are perfect.
Hello Rory you reviewed the Puma st on a country road and reviewed the Kona N on a race track .So how would you compare the two.Which would you prefer?
‘ can’t think of another performance crossover that goes head to head with the Puma ST’. Erm, maybe the T-roc R, Audi SQ2... I could go on.... don’t know why you’d compare it to a 100k+ Porsche?
T-Roc R is £10,000 more. It starts at £38,000. SQ2 is over £7k more.
He said a Porsche Macan, which starts from just under £50k. You are thinking of the Porsche Cayenne.
@@AutoTraderTV i like the puma st but i really think as a small ST suv it deserved the 2.3 ecoboost, with standard light mild hybrid technology as standard. to cope with emissions.
@@AutoTraderTV That's correct. And yet I read today in What Car magazine they say that the T-roc R and Audi SQ2 are its "closest rivals"
@@AutoTraderTV I get that... but it’s just how he said there’s little to no competition other than the Porsche, which simply isn’t true. I never mentioned prices or stats etc, but there’s a lot of comparability here with many fast crossovers.
I wonder where you found a diffusor? I could only see a plastic bumper!
Just got a Puma ST - X and I love it. I had a Focus and also a Fiesta in the past but this Puma is in a different class! The engine is much more responsive than I imagined and it's a really nice car to drive. It has a lot of featrues as the electronic dashboard is great.
I like your prose and style, a lot!
How does it compare with a Nissna Juke Nismo RS?
From what i heard awell its just a feista with different body panels when you open the bonnet you can see that they pulled the front out and there is a big gap from the bumper to the engine.
I’ve got a mk8 fiesta ST and I find the seats superb. Surely if you want comfy seats you buy a vignale not an ST puma.
Nee ford performance seats coming soon let's hope they are OK
great review Rory, agree Recaro's need to improve, especially bolsters, same issue with Focus ST over long distances, lack of lumbar support is a problem too (why i gave up my MK3.5 ST). Post Brexit the prices have crept up on the Ford's (and other cars too) due to costs from parts origin locations.
Great fall scenery in this one 👍
Might as well get a focus ST or fiesta ? Pointless size the puma was about being small and different ?
Is suspension stiff, Im mid 40s and I just thinking about our UK pitted roads
I'm glad to see Rory back, liked him on Top Gear. He's a great motoring journalist.
I’ve just bought this cat and totally disagree with review. Brakes and steering awesome and handling fantastic and demo did not have performance pack. I have ordered performance and assistance pack and of course mean green. I appreciate any feedback on new cars but feel this one biased.
Absolutely love the Puma! Gorgeous looking car and fun to drive.
no idea how you snapped the parcel shelf tbh
i drive the Puma st daily and never touched it actually
Seems to have sold well with plenty of happy owners
We need this in the US like yesterday. C'mon Ford, not everyone wants an Expedition.
You mean “not everyone wants an Ecosport” there I fixed it!
I saw this car today 4-02-21 in a ford dealer here in cardiff.
In the same segment you have the Fiat 500X Sport with the new Firefly engine that is a 1.3cc turbocharged with 150bhp
Epic Filming bro, keep doing it good!
I actually really like this.....bizarrely
Did he ssy 155ps from the lower 1 litre engine? Wow thats decent enough as it is thought the max was around 140ps out of those units.
Yeah, the new Fiesta ones are mild hybrid and do 155. I assume it's the same engine in this.
Autotrader upped there game massively.
Is it really necessary for a 200hp crossover to have track mode?
As regards price shop around as mine is 27.5 which with assistance and performance pack and mean green good value.
I didn’t understand the gearbox thing. Can anyone explain?
Fords do have great manual gearboxes especially the Focus RS! Quite the opposite of what is being said here... questioning the objectivity of the review now...
Questioning your obvious bias towards Ford...
The manual isn't the best even in the rs. The type r civic gets that accolade
Was looking to replace my St Line x plus first edition 155 Hp but now i am not so sure! after looking at this and my wife has an Fiesta ST3 with this motor anyway!!!!
Not even watched the review yet but I already know I'd love this car!
One of the best car reviewers 💯
the guy complains of nearly all the features that make the car worth of the ST badge (steering, sporty seats, brakes). Basically he says that the ST should have been like is the ST line, pure aesthetics
No hes doesnt. He says its a good track car that you wont take to the track. Its too much sportiness for a cat that is supposed to take you on your groccery run 70% of the time youll be driving it
Nice reviews generally but one thing annoys me at first sight. The boot cover! I assume it is the same setup as my 2020 First edition 155hp Puma. Do not doom new things if you cant operate it man! This cloth kind cover is praised in several reviews as it allows to put tall things in boot without removing it. IMHO rigid boot covers are a relic from 90´s and rollover ones needs to be manually operated. In my case this cover has been working perfectly.
Rory never misses, great review
"something to give you encouragement to put your foot down" 🤣🤣 I love it! True petrol head.
The ST looks great but I think the standard one will do me.
What the tune at the beginning called
It's hilarious that this has a race track mode
Why wouldn’t want a setting that improves throttle response and turns off/down TC?
Not available in Australia, sad.
Really wish Ford USA brings this Puma ST to the states - I'd buy one for sure!
Are the brakes too aggressive, is yes then why is it deemed bad?
What is the background music of this start of this video
Wasn’t the juke Nismo the first to do this?
Nice to see a critical review sometimes. Thanks Rory!
This car is the business sticks like glue sounds like a rocket love it
Let's face it, when its 4:30 and you need to be in post office by 5 to collect your pension you gonna appreciate the 200 hp.
No queuing for pensions nowadays, it’s straight into gilt edge bonds 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I would like a review of the 1.0 ST ( 170bhp) Which one is the better choice...Did they fix the steering and brakes... Questions to be answered
Had one for 6 months. Very nice to drive.
One BIG thing that bothered me with it are the uncompfortable firm seats. It is like sitting on cardboard and not good for long drives. The high beam is miserably poor.
Other than that. Good car. But traded it in for a Golf R. I wanted something more fun and practicable.
i imagine this car with 2 custom electric motors for the rear wheels and battery on the backup compartment for boost speeds , acar with a lot potential.
Someone understands the direction Ford is going...I see something similar also..
Cool car, wish we could get it here in the states
very nice delivery, fresh...
Just bought a Puma ST and after having driven the Fiesta ST equipped with the Recaro seats compared to the new Ford Performance branded seats I have to say the Ford Performance seats blow the Recaro seats out of the water in terms of comfort and configuration abilities. Pleasantly surprised to say the very least.
I will admit that I would thoroughly enjoy this car. Coming from a MK3 Focus RS owner.
Stunning view of country side, love the color
Well said Ganesh , totally agree . Who needs Attenborough documentaries, with Rory around ?! 😂
I'm definitely settling for the upcoming 2022 Hyundai Kona N
I am Ford man we have 2 Ford Focus and we love ❤️ them . How about the escape model mate. Tests drive.
The music at the end?
Completely opposite review to just about every other journalist. Most dislike the looks but think it's the best value, best driving car in it's class 😂.
And they'd be correct.
How the HELL have you snapped the parcel shelf?
Where was this filmed ??
Looks so much better than the last video made with the iphone (keep your cameras)
So the puma which was a sleek 2 door coupe is now a fat crossover. Makes sense.
Excellent review like always Rory and autotrader-cant wait for your Toyota Yaris gr review-eagerly waiting for that one😀......
The seats don't suit the car? That's the same with every other ST car then yeah? Its a sports car with sports seats what do you expect?
I believe the Focus ST has different seats.
Nice car if you like crossovers, he said about some of ford gearboxes being mushy, l have a 2017 ecoboost mustang an its not a mushy gearboxe, very short throws an feels like a gated box, lovely colour that puma though nice car but i prefer coupes especially mustangs and hot hatches like focus st or rs or new honda civic type r good review here though 👍👍
If this car has a sunroof, it'd be the best all-round budget car hands-down.
Who needs a sunroof with air con. Without one the car is far stronger and much more crash safe for occupants.
Optional opening panramic roof available (£950 in UK market)
