I clean every single day!
As cute as chinchillas are, they may be one of the messiest pets out there. For a lot of people (I'd even say most people) having poop and bedding and hay all over your floors is an immediate deal breaker for a pet. I don't blame them; it's a lot of work every day to keep clean, and ours even have their own bedroom! What other questions do you all have about owning chinchillas?

It's amazing how chill the chincillas are about the vacuum cleaner. Every cat or dog I've ever owned has acted like it's a dragon specifically out to eat them. Meanwhile, these guys are just hanging out like "yup that sure is cleaning alright."
I always say it’s better to expose them to sounds and noise as much as possible at the beginning! 😊
I've read that if you discipline the vacuum cleaner (growl at it and so on) so the dog understands the vacuum is low status in the pack, it gets them over their fear.

I'm truly surprised that their cage isn't a total mess. I've been led to believe via videos that chins are very very messy and quite destructive. Doesn't look like the case here. Plus they seem quite fond of the attention too. Maybe it's because of the great care, cleaning and attention you give them!
Very cute animals but so much work, both with entertaining them and cleaning. So hopefully people think before they get pets like this.

I need some advice...
Our chinchilla's have a huge cage and we have build an 'outer-cage'. The outer-cage is about 6 squared meters; it has a kind of roof. The roof isn't thát high, because we don't want our chinchilla's to hurt themselves. They have 24/7 access to the outer-cage, meaning they can have 'play-time' 24/7. Some people say that it is amazing that they have the room to play, others say it's bad for them. I just don't know what's best for them. They are very active during the night and I hear them playing a lot. I don't want them to overheat. Last week one of our chinchilla's was disorientated and couldn't properly walk. We went to the animal hospital. They don't know what it was. The urine was good. I don't know whether it has a correlation at all. What do you think?

Honestly I got these in random places like facebook marketplace, Craigslist, other chin owners, etc. they are retired items so sadly they don’t produce them anymore!

I'm relativly new to the channel, so I apologize if this has already been explained in a previous video. How often do you do a deep clean of the cages, or is the daily spot cleaning generally good enough to keep nasty stuff at bay? My experience is limited to cats, dogs, and one peanut-obsessed rat, so I'm curious.

How often do you have to clean the chins cages?
I've got to know what vacuum you use. I've been dying to find a good one to handle hay without needing to constantly clean out the hose.
It's a Rigid Shop Vac from Home Depot! However, I don't vacuum up big pieces of hay because it'll get clogged. I remove the stalky big pieces by hand and then vac up the smaller pieces and soft pieces!

How often do you clean the water bottle and nozzle?
I do a hot water clean of the bottles like monthly maybe? I just rinse them usually when I fill them!
Any specific reason why Linus's cage doesn't have bedding? I remember he had some bumblefoot issues in the past. I'm always torn on if I should go to non bedding and have a potty bowl like linnie has.
Just curious if there was a specific reason his cage is bedding free.
Originally it was so I could keep the cage spotless so his feet would touch ANY moisture. So no fleece being wet, and I use aspen in the litter boxes instead of pine because aspen seems to collect the pee at the bottom rather than soaking on top like the pine

Finn drinking water😍😍 🥰🥰Two questions: If you had to(which I heard people are not suppose to), how long would you leave a Chin home alone? Chins are not suppose to get wet..........so how do you keep Teddy from wanting to lick them, when he wants to show affection towards them?
I’d leave them alone for about a day or a day and a half. If I’m gone more than one night, I’d have someone come drop in on them and freshen their cages, hay, pellets, etc.
My chinchillas live in their cages and don’t interact with Teddy, so it’s a non issue. However, if she did happen upon a loose chin somehow, I’d tell her to go to her bed so they didn’t interact! (She has a low prey drive and is highly obedient, however, I’d still rather them not interact since it’s not safe!)

I plan on getting 2 Chins and 1(or 2)Huskies......I would like your opinion on that?. As well as(if I do decide to get 4 pets), how do you suggest I keep them apart(since Huskies are "prey driven" as well, but also obedient(like Teddy))?
I have had both (huskies and chins). Never again at the same time. Ever.

I'm a chinchilla owner and I'm curious how often do you clean there cages?
My 3 chinchillas got me my wife. I told her on our first date we can do the tried and true boring dinner date or we can head back to my place for pizza and ice cream and play with my chinchillas. I thought she'd turn to mush seeing the younger two chinchillas but it was ''Napalm'' my biggest boi who she fell in love with. I told her the reason why he's called Napalm and its because he fucking lays waste to my home. She cackled like a witch and I knew she was the one for me...that and her giant Tool tattoo sleeve on her arm and her pink Nine Inch Nails shirt.

I need help, I have one chinchilla and he’s around a year old, year and a half. I love him so much but his wheel is going to be the death of me. When he runs, it sounds so loud and I can’t sleep. I know it’s probably the wheel, so do you have any wheel recommendations? I need help ASAP.
Hi! First, wheels are just kind of loud, so if the cage is in the bedroom, you're probably going to hear it no matter what unfortunately! However, you can definitely quiet it by making sure the bearings are all tight against the cage and the cage itself isn't rattling. Usually the loudness of a wheel comes from the cage moving and not necessarily the wheel, so you can stick little pieces of fleece in the gaps in the bars and pieces of the cage to keep it from moving and rattling less!
My chinnie always is like ur cleaning seriously whatever or when i have a playtime with him. Hes always like run over legs roll in dust and get ur black pants all dusty

Guinea pigs are more social with people, but they are still pretty messy and require specific care and a lot of cleaning. They can get stinky pretty quickly! 😅

Idk how anyone can call these animals pets. It's like having snakes and wolves! Sure they may tolerate you for a while, but really they are wild animals! They need big enclosures and don't like affection of petting and handling. The only reason most people buy them, is because they can't harm you and their fluff.
Jeez, people should stop treating animals like an exotic badge...
