I've had 2 Rottweilers in the past, the most wonderful friends you can imagine. They were the gentle giant type, not a hint of aggression.
Only time they got really aggresive was when a group of drunk guys yelling and throwing things at us. They can be really scary if need be, but please, please dont just get a Rottweiler just to be a guard dog. They can be so much more to you. And they also NEED more than that Not a dog just to have at home, this is a dog that needs to become part of the family and really needs excersise otherwise he will cause trouble.

I'm on my third rottweiler. And they are a blast! They are a very loyal, loving, confident animal. They do require more training than most dogs but the companion you have after a few years is unimaginably gentle and kind.
Of course you can trigger them to defend, anything can be trained to defend but that's not at all what they were bed for.
They love to work and make you happy. It is our duty to return the favor.

I owned a beautiful rott for ten years. They will get in that A$$ when they have to, but for the most part, they are loving, gentle dogs. These videos and t.v make people so afraid of rottweilers and pit bulls. And it can be difficult to find housing, when in most cases there is noting to really fear. This dog is simply playing. You will know when they are serious. Greatest dogs ever.

This is not an agressive dog at all. He is territorial which is similar, but a bit different. He might be agressive if someone walks into his territory, but he has clearly given a fair warning. People should keep in mind that dogs are animals, not humans, and they will abide with whatever would be appropriate out in the wild.

There is a video on youtube where a jaguar snuck into an apartment lobby and snatched a dog out by its neck and dragged it away. That scenario according to my friend/neighbor is pretty much what happened to the rottweiler. Dog was asleep and didnt see it till too late and the mtn lion got him. They are expert hunters, alot stronger than dogs and more efficient at killing vs a housepet who gets his meals handed to him daily.

A man two houses down from me had a full grown (2yr old healthy) Rottweiler dragged off by a mountain lion screaming and yelping. He and his wife had a bbq and stayed up late. Hubby thought wife brought their dog in and the wife assumed her husband brought him inside. It happened around 12:30am when they heard the dog's terrified crying and then silence. They later found the dog's body in the woods mauled to death. I feel bad for them, but also angry they could be so careless with their family pet. We live in the black hills, SD.

Try telling my neighbor that they are liars and their dog didnt really die then. They washed its blood off their porch and another neighbor witnessed it being dragged off by its neck. Its mangled, half eaten body found in the woods the next day. Forrest rangers confirmed it was killed by a mountain lion. We live in CO....dogs big and small get eaten by them every year. Just cause you saw a video of a puma getting killed doesnt make you an expert on ALL cases involving dogs and mountain lions.

I've been bit by a Rotty that was a so called family dog and I'll tell you something for free it did not want me to fuss it because I was not a part of its pack (family) most people that claim to have submissive or passive Rottweiler's don't noo this but people go around mixing 3 quarter rottweiler and 1 Labrador and that is was is known as a "family rottweiler" look it up. mixing the Labrador with the rottweiler calms its natural Instincts

When used correctly, the prong collars do not harm the dog at all...the shepherd I got from someone was raised on the collar...he had a bad habit of pulling while wearing regular collars...they had 2 trainers work with him...they both suggested the prong collar...when I got him, I was skeptical of it at first...but, seeing the dif between a regular collar on him and the prong collar being used, wow!!...what a dif it made...my 4 yr old daughter, 6 yr old son, and my then bf's 4 yr old son could walk him...with no prob...with a regular collar on, not possible for the kids to do it...and this shepherd was bigger than the two shepherds I had as a kid...u have to know how to use the collar so u dont hurt the dog, period!!

Even if a dog dog gets a mountain lion on its back, the lion has retractable claws and can kick and run its paws on the dog's belly, shredding it. You see this on a small scale if you have ever tried to give a cat a bath and they fight it.
