The Prince of Wales' call with Canadian Firefighters

- The Prince of Wales speaks with firefighters from across Canada to hear about their experiences of tackling the country's worst wildfire season on record.
During the call, His Royal Highness heard about the scale of the effort to tackle the wildfires, including the number of Canadian firefighters involved and the provision of international support. Those on the call also spoke about the impact of the difficult season on the firefighter community, which suffered a number of fatalities, and the support available to them to maintain their wellbeing and recover from their unprecedented workload.
Participants in the call were located in Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Quebec and the Northwest Territories, and included:

The support for the commonwealth with so obvious a climate change issue and the devastation caused by it is wonderful. I'm sure the firefighters and staff appreciate the call from His Royal Highness.
A lot of those fires were purposely started as was stated at the time. The Greek fires were also deliberately started nothing to do with the supposed Climate Crisis, that the likes of the WEF and Just Stop Oil are spouting about. Listen to the real experts.
This was a six minute call. Not in a busy day. Not in a busy week. He took the rest of the week off.

In the US midwest - Chicago -, we had many summer days of smoke, smog and unhealthy breathing days due to the Canadian wildfires. One day we had the title of being the most unhealthy polluted city in the world. God bless those at the front line. We are thankful for their work.

The first responders during these events do a phenomenal job under such difficult circumstances. Here in British Columbia the summers of the last few years have been horrific - at the end when they've been noted as being the worst on record you think "Hopefully next year will be better", and then records get shattered. During the heat dome two years ago when it hit 50 C here, and the entire town of Lytton was lost to fire a person would think it couldn't be worse than that. Sadly, this year several firefighters lost their lives during the season, including the four killed last month in a traffic accident returning home from service. British Columbia (and other areas of Canada) have been tremendously fortunate to receive assistance from teams of firefighters from other parts of the world, who travel here and step in to help relieve the fatigued first responders that are simply overwhelmed by what they face. All of them are heroes.
As a former municipal politician, I had the privilege of working with people who run to an emergency while the rest of us run away. Often politicians paint firefighters as part-time workers because they live at the fire station while on duty. I realize that firefighters who sleep during this time are total "slackers" and that they do eat their meals. Believe me, I have heard more than one on more than one occasion agreeing with a ratepayer that they are a "freeloaders". I shake my head because those kinds of comments are said by ignorance. I can educate the ratepayer but the politician is beyond hope, mostly. Thank you for all of the emergency people who put their lives on the lines to keep us safe.
This shows real interest in people, their hard jobs and sacrificesnas well as shiningn a light on them.

The Canadian fires seem to get worse and worse every year. We need more initiatives like the earthshot prize to create real change and not mask it with taxes.

Thank you, Your Highness, for honouring our brave fire fighters. I am in Nova Scotia , the fires here were terrifying . They were so big, the ahes fell like grey snowflakes from the sky. Then we barely recovered from the fires when we were hit with the huge storm that once again shut our province down but with water and floods instead of flames.
Thank you, Your Royal Highness. Your commitment to the Commonwealth and the planet and all those on it is greatly appreciated. We live in the south (Cornwall, Ontario) and only had a number of days during those many dry weeks in Northern Quebec, but ash on the roof added ended up in our water barrel and our garden didn’t do well. We continue to conserve and prey next year will be better. Thank you for continuing this discussion.

As a Canadian who does not live in a fire zone, I am grateful to His Royal Highness for taking the time to listen to some of those who do. The smoke I experienced at a distance was nothing compared to what residents in those areas and courageous firefighters dealt with over extended periods of time. From the prince's lips to God's ears that this has been a "one off"!
