Just got the SPB213, after becoming infatuated with the pearlescent, silver dial-nice change from everyone’s else’s gray and black dials. This watch while slightly heavy is SO comfortable on my 6 3/4” wrist-particularly after wearing a Turtle for the last few years.
What I want to get across is that this bracelet-also on the SPB143-gets a bad rap, and it’s not entirely fair; yes, the diver’s extension and the endlink’s at the case are not well done for a $1K+ watch. And let’s not get into the horrid pin/collar link construction! But this is the best quality Seiko bracelet I’ve seen in 35 years of wearing Seikos. It’s thick and weighty, and the oyster links are in a great rolling pattern-very classic. And I find the milled clasp very smooth and adequate for a $1k price point watch. They got a perfect fit for me by just removing links-without having to utilize the micro adjusting pin. That’s the first time ever for me with any watch.
I chose this watch at the dealers comparing it side by side with a Tudor 39. The Tudor is beautiful too-but while also vintage inspired, this Seiko’s lighter color theme and 62MAS dial/hands was just more soothing to the eye than the more traditional dark “Rolex” dial and the snowflake hands of the Tudor. I always thought I was a traditional diver guy, a true Submariner aficionado, but this 213 has really changed my tastes.

Snagged the new 213 for under $1k. The lowbeat 6L35 does not really compete with the smoother 8L35 running in my SLA017 but of course is much less expensive. Wish the 213 had the polished inner bezel and deleted X of the 017.

I had the 143 and sold it (nothing wrong with it I just pretty much sell any watches that are not gifts within a year!), I recently got the 213 and love it but the main difference for me is that as a daily wearer, the 143 will look great once it’s beat up a bit (like tudors and Rolexes do) but I’m not sure the 213 will suit scratches and scuffs as well. It’s incredible and I find myself staring at it and moving it slightly to see how the light plays with it, but it doesn’t feel as much like a tool watch as the darker dials

I have owned the SLA025 and SLA039. I absolutely love the design and on-wrist feel of the mono-bloc case. But, the watch accuracy (+7 and +10 s/d) was ultimately the reason I sold both. Nice but that cheap metal keeper is a big no no . It’s the standard metal keeper you find on other less expensive divers and it’s absolute rubbish. I don’t understand why they just don’t do a good quality rubber keeper like the used to do back in the day; that would be so much better. If you do a metal keeper at least make sure it s machined well , with no sharp edges and it’s comfortable. And get rid of the branding on the keeper, that’s just gaudy and overkill. On the metal bracelet it’s too heavy for me, also their metal bracelets need improving . Such a shame because the rest is really nice . They just refuse to listen to their customers . Call it stubbornness , call it arrogance, call it pride ; I call it a lack of intelligence .
