    I think the video is hilarious. It is wonderful to see our two navies having fun with each other. Very few countries in the world are as close in language and culture as we Scandinavians. While yes it is true there may still be some resentment towards each other, it is time to get over that. We are, whether we admit it or not, the same people. Ha det bra!

    @borgunvaag The quality issues with the nansen class has been sorted out for a long time ago, and the facts behund the issue is the spanions didnt make the hull strong enough for artic conditions. So the ships had to be strenghten, and thats sorted out. At first they made some problems regarding this, but as i said, the problem is resolved. Its a shame though, that we didnt choose the norwegian built alternative, like before. But the navy wanted AEGIS, and it was cheaper than a norwegian alt.

    Neighbourly fun between two good friends (brothers). On a more serious note: Sweden really wimped out in WW2. They not only refused to fight. But they let the Germans pass through their country to attack Norway from several positions. That was not brotherly. Norwegians fought four their lives in WW2 and gave the Germans a good fight. Danes too chickened out and refused to fight for their country. I'm surprised this is forgotten... Wimps.

    • @matsandersson4846
      @matsandersson4846 Před 8 lety +7

      Maybe you should take a few history lessons before you start spouting untruths. Norway only fought because they were attacked and their country was defensible due to its mountainous terrain. Sweden was not attacked and Denmark is too flat to defend against a superior enemy. On the morning of the 9th of April 1940, the German invasion fleet was already in the Oslofjord. Not a single German soldier crossed Swedish territory during that invasion.

      You clearly don´t know history, Sweden forced Norway in to a Union in 1814 and the Union dissolved in 1905 in peaceful negotiations, everyone know that Norway would not be able to win a war against Sweden in 1905. This is why the Nobel peace prize is handed out in Norway instead of Sweden because of the peaceful outcome.

    • @Khunark
      @Khunark Před 6 lety +1

      Germany wanted to send troops through sweden during the invasion, but sweden refused. Neither weapons nor ammo crossed into norway before the surrender. After the surrender germany asked again, and sweden allowed these transfers. During the invasion, only food, medicine and civilian personnel were transported through sweden. There was one exception, where something like 10 soldiers posing as medics were transferred. They were unarmed. You should thank the germans and the swedes. They went to the trouble of sending military supplies and reinforcements through finland instead. Imagine that detour. The finnish gladly accepted german help since they were under attack by the soviet union at the time. Swedes also provided volounteer support to finland. Sweden was neutral during the war, and could not do much else without risking getting dragged into the war, and without sweden there would have been no safe haven for refugees. We are paying for that now. Thanks to the germans, you do not have nearly the same problems.

Just like military spending per capita. Per capita is HEAVILY skewed by population. My point is just... "per capita Norway is the worlds largest arms exporter." is meaningless.

      Large navis aren't a necessity for a country to function and have a high standard of living. For nordic, and quite frankly most european countries, NATO negates the need for large militaries due to the fact pretty much all aggression towards the alliance is deterred.
      For Norway and Sweden, a small navy is all that is required for border security, anything much larger would be a bit of a waste of resources.

    Naval combat isn't either what it used to be, but I can assure you that Norway wouldn't be able to withstand attack from what would be considered potential enemies.

    Actually, GB is a part of Scandinavia too. Just a small FYI ;)
    That aside; I love how Norway & Sweden always have this healthy competition and "fighting" over every little thing, it's almost a form of sibling rivalry. xD

    Hi! =)Hello! I'm from Norway.
    Norwegian vessels are often smaller than the Swedish, as we have tougher sea along the coast of Norway. Norway and Sweden are allies, and partners much politically and militarily.
    When it comes to schools universities and colleges, so I do not actually know. =)

    I'm not saying it would be a needed addition to the already existing export... but it sure would have been an nice addition...
    It's amazing how much more income you could get if you controlled almost the entire scandinavian shoreline.

    @objectivepac Also, the King in Norway was not scared of the nobility as Kings could be in other countries, since in Norway the nobility did not have large fortresses with a big army. In Norway the only military they had was controlled by the king and was called: The laidangen. Which was basically farmers around Norway which have to (in war times) go out of their houses, get some weapons and fight for the king. When the black plague came and killed around the 50% or the norwegian population

    @mx6dk And the reason for Norway owning the oilfields today is because of the international agreements countries have signed. Norway's borders were however much like it is today back when Norway was its own country before the kalmarunion, except the land between Norway and Sweden. Also Norway had many large islands around England and Iceland under them, also including Greenland, which the danes got after making Norway a province.

    @mrgeorgeallison I think we are talking about personal disposable income. Lets say you have 80000$ in disposable income in the US. You have to spend a huge amount of this money on health insurance unlike in Norway where the government pays the insurance “thanks” to the high tax cap. So 80000$ here is not the same as 80000$ there that’s why it would be interesting to see how much the average Norwegian gets of different goods like those I mentioned in a earlier post or is that what dis inc shows?

    Norway's military vessels may be of smaller size, but size does not matter nowadays like in ww2 and before. Norway's ships are extremely technically advanced fast and equipped with state of the art weaponry that can give a heavy punch. Basically made to defend Norwegian waters. Also a think some are stealth as well, giving a huge advantage in defending from invasions as we would rule the sea and can ambush anything trying to attack.

    @richter75 I am not arguing about the paradox, just the use of per capita statistics to measure something like arms exports, there is no value in doing that as the per head figures are irrelevant overall.

    @objectivepac such as, help with financial problems or give advice and such. This was the only way they could get land or anything from the king. So the nobility in Norway were very poor compared to their counterparts in Europe. Which also did not help is that, in most of Norway they had farming issues. because of the mountains, they could not have vast fields of farms. It was only in east Norway which was flat enough for that, while the nobility in the other countries had more land to controll.
