You must be from the area. Nobody knows about Alton unless they’re from the area. Happy to see this!

Interesting. I lived a block away from the McPike mansion (corner of 22nd and Alby) from 1949 until early 1967. The house was abandoned for as long as I remember. We always called it the Davis mansion. Yes, I went all over the property and went inside many times. We did sometimes see lights in the windows but the adults always said they were reflections. The inside was in pretty bad shape due to broken windows and vandalism. I remember the basement was always the scariest and we often ‘felt’ strange breezes there.

You know, listening to this and hearing you guys talk about the tombs behind the McPike mansion makes me wonder if they were ever truly graves at all or if they may have held something of monetary value. Especially with the one owner rumored to have lost the mansion in a bet, and not as sus but the fact that they're unmarked.

Very interesting and well done - thanks. Just an FYI - I was at the mansion the day after the mist was recorded (late summer of 2000, I think). I viewed the video directly from the camera of the person who took it (I believe her name was Rene but can’t remember the last name) and it was astonishing. I’m a fascinated skeptic and could not find anything that could explain the video. The wine cellar has no light whatsoever when the doors are shut- zero, nothing, absolute darkness - and there is nowhere the mist could have come from.
Our visit on the following day provided us with an experience that I’ve also never been able to explain. Not sure what it was but as the group stood in a circle, holding hands, several small - perhaps softball sized - very pale, with almost a blueish tinge “orbs” (for lack of a better descriptive word) that emitted a ver faint light and left a wispy trail behind them began to weave in and out of the circle. There were probably 3 visible. More than 2, less than 5. Inside of the circle (the front of our bodies) was warm. Our backs were extremely cold. Multiple people in the circle saw the same thing and commented. I’m not ready to declare it was someone’s dead aunt but I honestly have no viable explanation for what we saw. I still think about it and wonder what it really was.
As for the crypts - as weird as it may sound, it wasn’t out of the normal pattern for people to buy and hold an extra grave plot for family members, “just in case”. My grandparents bought 5 grave plots. They had two daughters, two son in laws and five grandchildren and yet, they bought extras….go figure. Same thing with my husband’s grandparents…extra grave plot. I don’t know if the same applies to a private crypt or not but there is a history of buying extra plots to consider.
Anyhow - thanks for the thorough and entertaining coverage. Looking forward to watching several more.
