UK Emergency Alert System, national test, 23 April 2023

- The countrywide test of the new UK Emergency Alert system was scheduled for 15:00 BST. It was intended to be received by all mobile phones attached to 4G and 5G networks. I set up three phones to see what would happen.
- iPhone on EE received the alert at 14:59
- Samsung Galaxy A40 on Vodafone received the alert at 15:01
- Pixel 4a on Three didn't receive the alert at all.
Location was Newcastle upon Tyne.

Lesson learnt, don't use 3
Three is generally ok in fact. In this case the alarm test uncovered a poor network configuration which prevented most 3 phones receiving the alert. Will work next time... hopefully.
i didnt get this bc i live in scotland but i think my cousins got it
People in Scotland got it (can confirm) but some didn't due to issues or just turning it off (like me who woke up, turned it off like 19 minutes before the test, then went back to sleep.)
The emergency alert sound on iPhone scares the everliving crap out of me
i believe it’s actually the national sound, and will play on tv and such if necessary!

I think the phone you had on the right you turned off the Test alert
Nope. I made sure emergency alerts were set to on. After the test it was widely reported that many users on the Three network failed to receive the test alert, eg www.theguardian.com/society/2023/apr/23/uk-emergency-alert-test-three-looking-into-why-users-failed-to-get-text
