  • By Russell T. Davies. Featuring Kate Winslet.
Interesting and aesthetic and with very strong vibes of Doctor Who and The Demon Headmaster. First broadcast in 1991.
Comprising six 25-minute episodes, the two linked three-part stories tell the adventures of three teenagers and their battle to save their school and their classmates from the actions of the sinister Mr Eldritch.

I have just binge watched this for the first time since watching it on DVD (kids, ask your parents what they were) many years ago. What joy, hammier than Miss Piggy. For those who could possibly be interested, most of the street scenes were filmed on the Woburn Avenue (it had a different construction site name) estate in Farnborough, Hampshire, about one and a half miles from Robert Haining School in my judgement but in a different education authority area.

Given that this show was created by Russel T Davies it's not surprising that lot of this reminds me of DR. WHO (the opening credits seem like an homage to the original series), and I see a lot of elements that he brought to the renewed series in 2005, and to the lovely Sarah Jane Smith's series. But I'm also getting a real THE PRISONER vibe from some of this show, like the weird skewed angles that a lot of the scenes with of Eldritch and his henchmen are shot from. I'd be real surprised if Davies wasn't inspired by Patrick McGoohan's brilliant and surreal 1960's masterpiece of a series, which also had an episode (called THE GENERAL, i believe) that dealt.with a computer that beamed information directly into people's brains but it was also brainwashing them into doing its bidding. I'm so glad Davies is returning to the helm of DR WHO next year. (Chibnall wrote a few good WHO and TORCHWOOD episodes, but as showrunner he's taken some grave missteps, to put it charitably...)

Is it me or Harry Potter contains the same themes and character tropes as Dark Season for its first two books?
Philosopher’s Stone, strange professor has a sneaky plan, three students uncover it. Chamber of Secrets, pure blood villain seeks an underground creature to perpetuate pure race. Marcie looks, acts and sounds like Hermione, Reet has Harry’s attitude, Thomas is Ron with Malfoy dye. Idk JK Rowling started writing Harry Potter in 1991. I just came to watch Kate Winslet first credit and it grabbed me. She grew from a little tv miniseries to the biggest film ever made, and two of the highest box office grossing films in history and many awards won.
