I'm don't have one edc but as a mechanic I love knipex pliers, they are stupid easy to use, grip hard, comfortable and can do more than I ever imagined
Same, it's much easier than messing around opening a multitool and you don't have to put your hand directly over the flames. I work in a kitchen and it's also useful for dealing with hot trays etc.
You have perfectly explained why I carry a Knipex black Cobra alongside my Leatherman Skeletool. And you're right about the pronunciation. Knipex is a German company, and German does not have a silent K.
Yes and yes! It floored me the first time I heard the correct pronunciation lol, I guess the silent K seemed more inline with “KNIVES” so it sounded cooler 🤷🏻 but yes maybe the answer is carry both!
@Autumn it has full adjustable locking jaws, wire cutters a serrated blade a 1/4 bit holder, and more the kipex can only handle up to a 1 1/2 in pipe compared to a 1 inch for the crunch. I'd take the extra tools over the extra half-inch any day. additionally the locking system on KNIPEX is a pain in the ass.
I had a stroke figuring out if it’s said ka-nee-pecks or ni-pecks thanks for keeping me from getting harassed in person by a fudd lol. Thanks for info, have a Leatherman but want to have micro pliers because some days needle nose don’t work
I use the Black Corbras also. But even more handy and that fit in smaller edc pouches are the 4" Crecent slipjaw pliers. I have 4 or 5 pairs myself. There are a couple of different flavors. Check it out.
I want an excuse to use one. I suppose I use my multi tool for the pliers most anyway. You know what I want? A multitool that has a good file. Or one that has a carbide notching saw or something. Or one with a tungsten carbide scribe. I always wanted to make custom knives for leatherman tools but I asked a lot of people and most said that’s a dumb idea 😂 well they said it wouldn’t be tough but the knives I’d be doing would be better in ever way. Fuck it I’m gonna do it lol
And I can’t wait to see what you come up with LOL. As a business it’s hard bc as you get more premium and specialized, your potential customer size gets smaller and smaller. That’s prob why you don’t see big boys like Leatherman going too deep with these. Another option might be to go modular and let people “create their own mt” but that would involve R&Ding a modular base tool that would make swapping individual tools easy. Challenge accepted?
The thing is multitools are nice for their multiple layer of inside tools. However the pliers needs to have more variety than what we actually have. The electrician needlenose is only popular because manufacturers can put 3 functions instaed of 1. But the cobra or the pliers wrench are absolute problem solving. Now imagine a multitool with those knipex pliers it might be something like the gerber dual force but with much better pliers.
Why is it kanipex? Do we now say kanife? I swear the k is silent it sounds so weird. On the other hand been thinking about getting these for a while but I can't see myself using them too often to justify the purchase
Not sure how it is in US/Canada/Aus/NZ but in Europe the Knipex Cobra XS aren't that expensive. A Victorinox Super Tinker/Climber, plus a Cobra XS costs the same as or less than a Leatherman Squirt here in the UK, and is much better.
So a pair of dinky little pliers versus my leatherman with two plier jaws, bigger handles, two knives, scissors and multiple screwdrivers, all while being smaller and easier to carry? No thanks
@RonKwok those pliers looked liked the charge TTI pliers is why I'd asked. Myself on my Wave, I have the Rebar plier, Rebar Awl ( I took the scissors out) and the Charge S30v straight edge knife instead of the 420 hc blade. I've been debating on trying to swap out the serrated blade for the sak 91mm scissors... ( TexasToolCrib has video of that mod)
I am not too confident you pronounced it right either. Trying to mimic the correct way as a non native of any language and calling other people out requires confidence. It is often ending up sounding rather scuffed. But yeah non silent part of the letter k is correct!
I'm not too confident either, but I accept my limitations in pronouncing it as a person who doesn't speak German, and can at least respond to those who call me out and insist the K is silent. Cheers!
Knipex Cobra Water Pump Pliers. 5 inch. 87 01 125. You can see most of that on the handle which is just one more great detail. Knipex makes top tier pliers. At $30 it's twice the price of a Channellock but half the price of a Snap On.
There’s no refuting sheer functionality of a multitool! What I’m getting at is whether or not the user is gonna need all those tools on a regular basis enough to merit a daily carry. Personally for me I keep MT in the go bag or the glove compartment 👌🏼
Not as a standalone no. But you can pair it up with folders / SAKs/ bit drivers and it's still lighter and less bulky than a multitool. I rarely use wire cutters or a file so works for me.
I'm don't have one edc but as a mechanic I love knipex pliers, they are stupid easy to use, grip hard, comfortable and can do more than I ever imagined
I started using this to pull pots off of fires and ended up using it more than my multitool
Ooh that’s a great use for it 🏕️🔥

@simonh6371 who tf uses water pump pliers in a kitchen 😂
The smaller version is even better!
I carry a Swiss Army knife every day, but I’d gladly take the Leatherman on this one.
SAK paired up with a Knipex Cobra XS can be a very good setup, if you don't need wire cutters.
@@simonh6371 A knife is a wire cutter.
@@Vpentrov There you go, perfect combo.
@@Vpentrov Although I've cut nails and galvanised steel tentpegs with the wire cutters on my Leatherman Rebar, I wouldn't do that with a knife.

It’s good but not as useful as a multi tool like a pliers based one. A multi tool can cut, pull, turn, screw and open.
I've used my Knipex to fix my multitools. The things are fantastic.
I had a stroke figuring out if it’s said ka-nee-pecks or ni-pecks thanks for keeping me from getting harassed in person by a fudd lol. Thanks for info, have a Leatherman but want to have micro pliers because some days needle nose don’t work
I have em, I edc the smaller ones daily. Their great..
Once you start in EDC, you never get out. Look at Ron Kwok, Ron Kwok wanted to be hand model, but EDC trapped him.
Swapped out my Leatherman surge for that 5in knipex and a Leatherman Crunch for my EDC work kit. Those two make a fantastic pair!
That's a capable duo!
I use the Black Corbras also. But even more handy and that fit in smaller edc pouches are the 4" Crecent slipjaw pliers. I have 4 or 5 pairs myself. There are a couple of different flavors. Check it out.
the 4 inch ones suck. The 5 inch gets double the torque
Combo carry. Wave or Victorinox champ and a mini Knipex. Ready for almost anything.
yea cause gen z will ever use these in actual work, other than collecting them:))
I'll keep my leatherman

Leather man for work, SAK for everyday
I have the 4in version I carry every day I love it
Awesome!
Technically it is Ka-nee-pecks
That is the way the head of Knipex in Germany says it. It is funny the head of USA Knipex pronounces it "nipex."

If Knipex came out with a multitool I’d be all over it! Would prob require mad engineering tho
I would’ve cut the handles shorter on the first one, and fit the grips back on.
Oh that's actually not a bad idea haha. I don't have any means of doing so personally
Why is it kanipex? Do we now say kanife? I swear the k is silent it sounds so weird.

Buy once, cry once. These are super nice. Better than a leatherman for sure in their own way. Those black out tools are begging to be lost.

I use knives almost every day in my work, building helicopters. Love them.
That is amazing and unexpected haha. Gotta love what you do!
Make one with a 1/4 drive bit and a knife with a good clip and ill say bye bye to my leatherman
You just described the grail minimal multitool. Let’s get it made 🤘🏼🤘🏼
What’s the pouch?
Its a awesome pliers!
Agreed!
1 tool vs 15+ so it's obvious which is more useful but plier vs plier it's obvious which wins that as well
very good video. what multi tool was that tho? looked like a modded wave +
It is a Wave+ but no mods! What mods would you put on it

If I need pliers I carry them on my tool belt…or get them out of my tool box. Carrying them for EDC is now going overboard.
Is it still $35 because I got a leathermen and it’s served me well for 20 years and fits in my change pocket fine
You need to add purchase links please
Thanks for the feedback I'll make sure I do that next time!
Channel locks are more reliable. They don't look as good but...
That's funny. You must not use them in an industrial setting. Knipex blows those junk channel locks away.

Nice! I just found a Multitool with non needle nose pliers. I made short about them👍
I'm not knocking the pliers, but a decent multi should have decent pliers. You just might have to spend a bit more.
