Please give Anton “Anthony” Fokker the credit.
He had a synchronized mechanism that allowed the gun to shoot through the propeller arc without hitting the prop. It was first used on the Eindecker in 1915 / 1916.

    Doesn't actually tell you how.

I think Anton Fokker figured out the interrupter mechanism

Do they have an illustration of the system they use for the timing? Because that's just numbing to think about the math needed to do that

    Timing is key

Actually, the system was created by the Germans and they had it on their planes. It wasn't until the allies captured the technology and duplicated it that it became more universal.

Only after the Germans captured and "stole" Roland Garros' plane with the bullet deflectors did they realize why he was scoring so many aerial kills. The Germans then employed an interrupter gear, invented by Anthony Fokker, who was Dutch, not German.

      Dutch , not German

I've always wondered how that was possible. I thought it had something to do with timing. Now I know. Great info😊

Yep we stole that technology from Germany. We didn't invent it.

The wedge technology is generally credited to the allies. Tony Fokker developed the synchronous gun that did away with the wedges and timed the guns with the engine.

Also should be noted that the Fokker (Dutch) interrupter gear was later improved upon by the British, who used a hydraulic interrupter system in the Sopwith Camel.
