  • I've been thinking and saying to myself but we're finally here and I think people are not accepting from what we knew from the very beginning. The content we've seen from both of them is minstrel and a lot of others have been doing content like this for years.

It's the same reason why I believe the black community is generally so strongly homophobic and why black women feel so strongly about not being in a relationship with a bisexual man. We're holding the shame and anger of witnessing "buck breaking'. The whole point of it was to belittle and shame the black man and portray him as weak and feminine to his woman and children. It's definitely something to think about.

I totally understand the struggle with this sort of content. There’s this level of uncomfortableness that comes with this sort of content that i experience. However, I am weary that policing it is somehow subscribing to the respectability politics is yearn to steer clear of. I don’t want to police black peoples bodies and actions because that is done so much so often, I as a fellow black should not be taking part too. However, they are not going to traditional black spaces to do these videos. They are talking in a distinctive voice, doing distinctive movements and using dog whistle like foods like watermelon and fried chicken. This may be for laughs but do they know or are aware of the stereotypes they are perpetuating and the history of these horrendous labels? Do they know what watermelon was to us during reconstruction ? And Jim Crow? To a share cropper? Do they know why we drenched horrendous cuts of meat in flour and deep fried it in order to make something edible from a cut of meat that wasn’t quite hitting for anything? Do they understand the gorilla implications and how that was used to justify American chattle slavery and painting African Americans as subhuman compared to the master race whites? Do they know and just not care? They getting their bags and couldn’t care less? That’s what I fear. Thanks for this content
