She can find her way to a tv studio and find the time to write a book but not the time to enter the Commons as it has been reported that she has not spoken in the House for over a year which is absolutely shocking so who is she representing? Clearly not her constituents and it is obvious she has no intention of getting off the gravy train - an honourable member would have resigned by now rather than just threaten resignation and if Nadine Dorries had an ounce of decency she would have resigned weeks ago!

I don't think they should be allowed any other job at all, regardless of what it is. They shouldn't be able to sit on boards as members or chairs, or work as an advisor or consultant. Their one and only job should be being an MP. They get paid well enough for it, and expenses. Maybe we should also remove a bunch of benefits too, like said expenses that go beyond operating their constituency office. Force them to use the same services the rest of us do. Maybe then we'll get decent public transport and a functioning health and social care system again if they also had to rely on them. They do this in Sweden. There's a reason they have a higher standard of living and better public services.

It is a reoccurring theme when you ask Conservative constituencies about what their MP does for them. There's a significant portion who simply don't do the real job of championing their area and bettering the area.
I suffer what feels like a rotten borough, always Tory regardless of what person or animal wears the ribbon. My current MP was parachuted in to replace the last one. This MP has no ties to the local community, has business and property investments in her own home area but hasn't even bothered to self enrich via our area beyond stealing the job away from someone who would care about the place. Our last MP at least was active even if I don't agree with their party or scandals.
I think it is clear we need to ensure MPs can only represent places they've lived for at least 10 years and have ties to. I think it is important we get back to voting for local representatives rather than the circus of voting on which party leader is the more amusing clown.

But, IDK, I think there's a reason why LibDems and Labour as well are starting to make inroads in what was formerly Tory country. As that young vote in cities ages and starts to have the opportunity to move out into the suburbs, they are not like the previous generations- they may have financially improved but they still lack the kind of security previous generations had in the past. That is gone. So the voting demographic will slowly change as the demographics of the neighborhoods shift.
Besides the thinking of younger generations is just generally a bit different politically. Tories have been very good at appealing to older well established property and business owners but seem to have to have lost the ability and knowledge of how to do that, and have had to resort to "culture wars" instead. The problem is for them that older property owners are dwindling group, and are being replaced by a younger group with different concerns, they have upset business owners large and small, and they can never win at their "culture wars" enough to satisfy those that care about it, who will just vote for more extreme parties next time around.

"The European court overrules everything. We're still in Europe."
I don't live in the UK anymore (just so whoever wants to can get their insult right, I am British, I just don't live there anymore), and I cannot possibly tell PoliticsJOE how much I appreciate these interviews with random people on the street. Sometimes I get sentimental and think about coming home, and these videos provide a wonderful corrective to my romanticization of my homeland.
In a democracy, you get the government you deserve.

Nadine has not stepped down because she employs her daughter as a secretarial assistant with a generous House of Commons salary. Her daughter will lose that cushy job if she resigns.
A bit sad though that some people know about I'm a Celebrity rather than the good, sound political reasons why Dorries should stand down immediately.

Which authority deems it illegal? The UN or the ECHR? Because neither have a leg to stand on when it comes to legality.
The UN is a joke which has the likes of China on the Human Rights Council and had Iran on the Womens Rights council. Not to mention its peacekeepers and personnel being involved in child sex ring scandals and human trafficking.
Then the ECHR, which critics of the rwanda love to portray as is being sacrosanct, is _strangely_ silent to the speech laws that violate the conventions rights to freedom of speech and expression.
So either the ECHR only care about certain rights being violated, meaning they are hypocrites and can be ignored like the violations they continuously ignore, or they're a political tool used not for protecting rights, but punishing governments that go against its interests.
