    Yo mister Headlight Restoration Pro.
    U are saving my life as we speak. I was just a car enthusiast in the Netherlands trying to get through life, just got fired from my courier job about a month ago. Luckily, i started following U about two weeks before that because of my Saab 9-3 headlights needing a new polishing. I had them done by somebody else two years ago, but now i wanted to do them myself. So thats how I got to this channel. Your style of presentation , humour, sarcasm and the obvious gaming / streetfighter arcade connection and sound effects got me hooked soon enough, as i am an 80s baby and former gaming addict, too much hadokens going on..😂. Anyhoe, what u did was getting me completely go ape shit bout this headlight stuff. I almost watched all videos, purchased almost all the stuff u recommended, and just started out doin this shit to my Saab. Shit came out pretty well.. then to my neighbours car. Then 3 other neighbours cars..Shoot i was like wtf this shit right here.. epic😂Not perfect yet but i saw the potential and was already amazed to got this result so quickly. I cursed the first few times with the clearcoat. Meguiars in netherlands is only sold as part of the restoration kit which costs 40 euros / dollars each.. so imagine the stress of fucking up. But i learned , adapted. I managed to find Ebay sellers to import the Meguiars for half the price or bit less 👌. With each new video i watched and each new headlight i did, I just got more and more interested as the results improved utilising each of your techniques. Did a VW golf 5, Aygo, Fiat ,. Then i went to wreckyards for practice lights.. got some Citroën C3's BmW 1 series Mercedes ML Toyota avensis lights for cheap... It learned me differences as u told us in Polycarbonate hardness .. Everything so far all checks out 1 on 1. Man, for real, in the week that I lost my job i was already like fuck it.. im gonna buy as much material and tools as i can and go for it. I stockpiled the 3ms, found a good trizact deal on AliExpress for half the price.. Experimented with turtlewax vs chemical guys for the polishing step. Made the mistake to buy non 3m pads, from Finixa, those suck balls. Back to 3m. All the neighbours and friends all are so happy with the results i created. And even though im officially unemployed still as we speak, tomorrow i will have my first real customer paid job of a non friend car, through a friend who told him after he saw my compilation video i made. Ive also bought a pop up gazebo tent 8 x 8 ft for autumn and winter, Dutch climate is unpredictable as Fuck .. 😂 TLDR: youre already a legend. And i just want to let ya know that im so grateful for all this U are giving me ,us enthousiast in the car detailing community in general, for the good of everyone and motivation of everything that wants to achieve anything worthwhile. Its 6 weeks now since i started in to follow U. Im dirt broke cuz i invested a lot, but im comfortable taking the shot. The skills i learned here combined with already some great results, are giving me confidence and motivation to make it andget succesful. And all because of your time and dedication to get this out to the public. Thank U. Ill keep ya updated how it is going in a while. Looking forward to the next videos of HRP, peace and blessings, David

    i've been watching your videos & i regret not researching before i did my headlights. i followed chris fix's video about headlights restoration & i ended up making it worst. i just ordered a drill sanding kit on amazon & you're giving me confidence to fix it all in my own. thank you so much for that.

      Yes I hear that a lot about that video... About a dozen people have commented that they tried it and it messed up their headlights this goes to show you that not everybody is professional on here are no exactly what they're doing.. a lot of these people are fixing headlights real quick and they look good on film but then a week later, hours later ,minutes later... But of course they don't tell you that....
      I keep it 100% absolutely true and I show everything as well... If you do this method I guarantee you will find success... I have over 90 Google five-star and only five star .... I know 100% with this method you will come out on top..
      Thanks for watching...

      I have done 6 headlights thus far using your technique. They are almost perfect. Left with minor scratches which is probably caused with the sandpaper. I do not have access to any 3M papers except for trizact 3000
      I ordered everything and they will be coming soon. Cannot wait to try it.
      My headlights are looking almost new and I am sure the meguiars coating will increase the quality!

In the beginning I tried using all these things it's just a waste of time no need very small instance where you can reach those areas even then become manipulate it by hand... So essentially they just sit in the garage probably never will use them for headlight restoration at least..

    Love sharing the knowledge. I'm gearing up to tackle the headlights on all my family cars. If I get those skills up, could be a fun side hustle, if I ever had free time on the weekends! Quick question - I have a Volvo which allows you to completely remove the headlight housing. Do you think it might be easier to work on off the car, or does having it attached give a bit more stability? I guess it cannot hurt to try either way.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 8 měsíci

      Working on the light outside the car theoretically would be a lot easier less things for you to worry about that's only theoretically and contingent if you had something advice or something to hold it absolutely still.. but nine times out of 10 there's nothing really to hold a headlight still like this.. and that's why in actuality working on a headlight when it's attached to the vehicle is much more easier..
      And yes for sure it's an awesome little side hustle depends on how far you want to take it that's how I started then the side hustle became way bigger than the actual hustle..lol

    Hey man, just watched a bunch of your videos in preparation to restore my own headlights as the shops in my area can't be bothered to do it the correct way. I do have a question regarding coatings and films. Have you had any good experiences in ceramic coating the headlights after the keep clear has cured fully, sealed them in wax or putting a ppf on it? The two latter after the keep clear has fully cured as well. And how about putting ppf after the keep has fully cured and ceramic coating the ppf itself?
    Kind of a lot to ask in a single comment, but I'm just so interested in headlight restoration now.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 8 měsíci

      Don't agree with ppf... It's too thick and overheats headlights and also you're going to run into a lot of problems down the road with peeling and moisture getting underneath it and overheating... And almost every time you remove it you have to get a headlight restoration because it damages your coating..
      As far as ceramic coatings they are too thin... Which will cause damage in many different ways, also it falls under double coating for both... Which affects the functioning of your headlight you're losing dozens of yards of light output...
      Check these video.

      @@theheadlightrestorationpro yeah, I watched those videos before you replied as you mentioned double coating at the end of this video. My questions were basically already answered before I asked them. Thanks for putting out so much quality content regarding headlights. My reasoning for asking about ceramic coating is mainly for the uv protection and its hydrophobic nature. I'm planning on detailing my car as well as restoring the headlights. Since I'll be ceramic coating the car I thought I'd try it on the lights as well.

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @j_crust4582 not too fond of ceramic coating the headlights they can turn out really bad... What happens if you get streaks and some weird effect by doing the headlights that you can visibly see... It's not much you'll be able to do... This is my recommendation always is aftercare..

    Hello sir! Great results as always. A few questions I hope you can answer.
    1) If you have to start with a p320, do you still follow it up with p500? Or can you skip the p500 stage and go directly to the P800?
    2) is it a must to use 3m “p” discs or could another brand of “p” discs be used? Amazon sells Duragold “p” discs. I know the 3M p3000 trizact is a special disc that other brands can’t duplicate but other than the 3M trizact disc, could another brand of “p” discs be used?
    3) any particular brand of backing plate (not the interface pad) that you prefer for the drill and polisher?
    Thanks again!

    • @theheadlightrestorationpro
      @theheadlightrestorationpro  Před 8 měsíci

      No you cannot jump from p320 to p800... You got to use the P disks that's the first stage of being correct.. first of all you can venture out from the 3M disc long as they're P.... The regular standard of disc is too abrasive and very cheaply made for this kind of work..
      With that being said nothing is going to compare to those 3M discs they are the top of the line.... Metaphorically it's like saying you're going to switch up to a tri-tip which is okay.. but 3M would be the filet mignon wagyu... Like literally there's nothing better....
      If you want backing place thrown Amazon there's far better ones than what I use I use cheap throw at once that's just my preference it doesn't matter on making your work better..
      It's way more better ones on Amazon these ones I use I have to make they don't technically sell them.... I get them from cheap restoration kits... And resurface them with a pad.

    Hey man, have been loving your videos! So detailed and educational, thanks for all your uploads.
    My father-in-law owns a BMW service garage and has started asking me to do headlight restoration for his customers.
    I'm following your method and equipment guide. I am practicing on a few different BMW X5s.
    My first road block to making this a decent business for myself is the massive amount of time it's taking me to apply your method to BMWs. I'm a timber furniture maker by trade so have a decent amount of experience with a sander in hand.
    The X5s are taking an hour and a half each headlight! I'm wondering if I'm spending too much time on each grit. The 3 + hours it's taking per job is excessive right??
    Where do people spend/waste too much time when using your method?
    Thanks so much again man for all you do! Really appreciate your advice
    Ben

      Thank you for watching..
      That time is a little bit long but if you're just beginning this method it'll be fine you're just going to work on your speed but at the same time retain the results..
      It takes me as long as you see on the video actually a little bit less because I have to slow down for the videos but on average about 45 minutes of car... Really difficult (the worst lights)vehicles between 50 minutes - hour a half..
      If you're truly using all the things that I use including power tools, sanding disc, and everything else that I use and how I use it and you get those times I guess you just will have to practice to get them down..

      Hey man, thanks for your reply. It's super impressive you take the time to engage with your followers.
      It's that age old saying, practice makes perfect. I'll keep at it, working on getting my time down. I sand hardwood timbers professionally. Polycarbonate is new to me. Perhaps I'm going over the same spots more than I need to.
      There's a good opportunity here to work in with my father-in-laws business as he has a steady flow of automotive customers. Google Banksia Motor Works in Byron Bay.
      I'll keep watching your videos and practicing.
      Will keep you posted on results!
      Thanks again for the advice 😊

      Hey man, hope you're well!
      I had a bad result today on a 2008 Porsche cayenne. The job was for the left hand lens only. I followed your sanding technique as per usual but when it came time to buff, I couldn't achieve decent clarity. The lens kept a slight haze. I wonder if you can share some insight on what can go wrong during that final buffing phase before applying the clear coat. I'm using 50:50 Chem Guys Headlight & the 3M polish. The same recipe you recommend in one of your earlier videos. Perhaps my 3M orange pad needs cleaning? Or there's residual product remaining on the microfibers used to wipe the lens before buffing. Or could it be the glass cleaner I'm using to clean the lens before buffing. I'm not sure where I went wrong. Leaves me disappointed that I cant provide a 10/10 service 100% of the time. I almost didn't change the client I was so unsatisfied with the result. I was performing the restoration in full sun if that makes any difference. Also, the headlight had been restored before. I started my cut with 500p, using 4 discs before moving to 800p. Would really appreciate some advice. Thanks brother!

      Yes you've got to be doing too much of everything.. you have to know when it's done and when to stop...
      You got to ask yourself do you know when to stop.... You're only supposed to do these steps until they're done if you overdo them not much will happen but you'll just be wasting your time...
      And I would think you're probably overdoing every single one cuz on average even on those vehicles would take me about 45 minutes... But keep in mind my skill level and how many I've done I am a seasoned professional....
      Speed comes with time...
      But an hour and a half of light is way too much time..... Probably check out this video.czcams.com/video/R1DsMcZ6q1Q/video.htmlsi=1kjsbLhnLGHJoqLq

    Holy cow !!! Your not going to believe this but a coworker asked me to do his dodge nitro I was going to do it today but it’s pouring out and to tell you the truth I didnt know what a dodge nitro even looks like. So now I see your video and to be honest I charge $80 per vehicle because I just started this year restoring headlights and I’m just trying to get my name out there . This nitro has 3 sets of lights so how do I tell the guy I really want more money or should I just suck it up and stay at the $80 I told him ? It’s going to take me a lot more time and I’m no where near as efficient as you so I’m sure the entire job will be over 2 hours

      Just say the $80 is only for headlights.

      Well... You have to come up with your minimum and your maximum.. and you have to come up with what you intend to make for an hour's worth of work and or at least one vehicle far as just a two regular headlights... If you feel $80 is too cheap then I would address it with that person and see if you can do more and explain you did not know it was a Dodge Nitro that had all these lights.. or you can use it as like you said get your name out there especially if it's at your work... Who's that I can kind of be a show piece of your expertise to other people at your work that might want to do it... I'm not sure what your headlight restoration goes for out there but this vehicle particularly is a lot of work... And you got to think also if you are going to do it for $80 and you say it's going to take you 2 hours that's going to be you making less than $40 an hour... So you just have to figure out what to do... Really can't tell you what to do I don't know where you're at in your practice... But just before with the person if you feel that way and even ask if it's cool if we could do a little bit more to put the bomb in this court...

    My car headlights still look clear, but when they are on, you can see all the fine hair-like scratches all over the plastic glass. Why don't they make headlights with gorilla glass? 🤨

      Too expensive.. also if you still see those you press too hard and you are too heavy-handed and also did not check your work good enough..
