1978 Jeep J20 4X4 PLOW TRUCK Farm Auction Buy! Will It Run?

- Will this 1978 Jeep J20 plow truck run? My dad bought this Jeep pickup at an auction. He was told by the auction that the seller had the engine running recently, but on auction day the truck had no electrical power. I did not have that information when filming the video. When filming the video all I knew was my dad bought, my dad asked me if I wanted to try to get it running in a video. So that's what I did. While editing the video, I noticed that the broken red wire that we repaired late in the video, appeared to not be broken early in the video. I think the terminal connector was partially broken & I broke it the rest of the way by being rough with the battery cables & wires.

It would be a 401, a 360, or 304 cubic inch motor. Should be cast into the block by the motor mount.

Awesome truck! I’m curious to know more about the odd location of you gas filler neck and why it’s in such a unique spot, cause I have the same one on my ‘76 J10 and it looks to be an auxiliary fuel tank that is mounted in the box and tapped into the filler neck. It’s a little concerning being the way it is as it’s above the sender in the lower tank and I can look in my tank and see two screws going into the side of it for one, as well as a 1-1/2” filler tube for a feed line to the main tank! Yours is the only other truck I’ve seen to have this same unique style filler location. Keep up the good work! Oh ya I’m a NDak native lovin down in AZ. I get the cold winters and ya gotta keep on keepin on no matter the weather! Same here but at least up there we could dress warm enough for the weather up there. Down here you can’t get naked enough to stay cool and it’s against the law if found that out quickly! Lol jk
You know I've never really looked at the tank & filler neck very closely. I'll have to investigate that. I might have to point that out in a Freeman's Garage video or in a video on the Freeman's Garage Extra channel. Thanks for taking the time to point that out. It is very interesting. A snowbird eh? Yes I know where Cavalier is. If there’s a Freeman there, they wouldn’t be related to me.
It kind of seemed like a no-brainer that the disconnected red wire under the hood would be power for the cab -- Particularly after seeing the bundle of wire from the firewall harness connector coiled around the e-brake pedal.

Seems like a solid truck for having a plow on it l, definitely needs some live but it would be a really fun truck to tool around in while restoring it or get her mechanically sound and let her eat.
Agreed. It’s got one of the best running engines I’ve heard in a long time. Maybe it needs to freed from the plows so it can go play.

Freeman people want those old jeep j trucks I saw a dude here on CZcams with one in way worse shape than that one and he still got it running don't know his intentions for it though another channel I watch low buck garage bought one disassembled and put it back together and got it running you've got a money in that truck sell it as is make decent little profit restore it and make nice profit
I hear ya. I’m thinking free it from the plows & install a cb. It depends on what my dads plan is. It’s his not mine.

I don't know. It's one of just a couple vehicles on Freeman's Garage that does not belong to me. It belongs to my dad.
