Why is it when my life is imploding and I go back to meditation my life gets much better all of a sudden? But when my life is going pretty good and I try meditating again I screw stuff up...like bad? Last time I screwed up big time at work, this time I blew up my van trying to keep it running for 4 more days before it went to the shop. I've been going through this 25 years...they're not coincidental. I even predicted this latest one. It always happens. This time I was really bad. I started up again, I got offered a job for great pay three days after starting. Three weeks later I'm still meditating. Van starts acting up, I make appointment, four days before appointment I screw it up.it makes me not want to meditate anymore. I can't afford these mistakes anymore. The wold is going to shit and I need a safe place to go. Im All alone. I have no one, no family, no help. And I can't do this anymore.

Hi Daniel, there are phases to meditation experiences. I recommend learning about the stages of insight, which are a common progression of states one tends to go through when meditating diligently. Some of these stages can be distinctly unpleasant and are characterised by a sort of "out of phaseness", irriation/sadness etc., and are sort of more chaotic than the nice phases that come before, and can come as a surprise to someone who expects meditation to only ever produce pleasant experiences. You can read about this in texts such as Mahasi Sayadaw's writings, or more controversial texts like Mastering the Core Teachings of the Buddha, or even research articles such as the one produced by Willoughby Britton and her team at Brown University, such as "The Varieties of Contemplative experiences", or their website Cheetah House. All the best,
      Olivier
