I suffer from intense anxiety. Although I don't have much cash and can't compete with the best Lego Cities, working on my Lego City, or even daydreaming about the sets I'd like to add to it (and probably never will be able to afford), is actually one of my few *escapes* from anxiety. I'd recommend it to anyone here who has diagnosed anxiety and OCD as I do.
Only if it’s ninjago it’s acceptable
You could use the Pick-A-Brick to start small and make your own custom city models. Like a fountain or a small parking lot, etc. you can start small for now and eventually be able to get the bigger sets.
I had a stroke and I severely hampered in what I can do and enjoy now. I’ve started a small city collection and it is extremely therapeutic.
Doesn’t matter the size, just enjoy the process 😊
I don't know how it is where you live, but here used Lego is really cheap so you can buy bulk lots and build a big Lego city. 😊
If my teachers at school had been more like you, I would have paid a lot more attention, sat nearer the front of the classroom, and never bunked off. My Lego city is a follow-on from my sets from the 1980's, so whilst space is still an issue, the smaller scale sets do not cost as much in my modular-free urban landscape.
I’m with you on the shelf. It looks better than having everything laid out.
The lego city I have is a multiversal, everything is mashed together in a ordered way, sort of city. I even have a story line for it
Just came back from AP Spanish, AP US History, and AP English, now I have to do AP City Building, also I thought professor Sands taught the lecture on modulars
I haven't really seen any lego city's on a shelf before. I think that they look really cool
That’s exactly what I’m in the middle of doing! Shameless plug to the shorts on my channel 😆
Search for small brick city on CZcams; it’s an old channel with a Lego city on shelves.
Shout out to ShyTimeIsMyTime and MrBookieBoo who have some of the coolest I’ve seen yet
@@HollyOnFilm yes.
I have a lego city on a shelf. It’s 4 x 2.5 baseplates and contains few modulars, smaller buildings and mocs.
I agree about table vs shelf.... cities on table look amazing, but shelves present better for an office or a lego room.
I have my Steampunk city on the mantle of my unused chimney... using modifications from sets and Rebrickable MOCs... using inspiration from Internet. so much fun. 🙂
I swear we both have unbelievably similar collecting paths...start with a couple of sets from a single theme, then some dark age period, then a bit of Marvel again before a year of minifig rush...then the dabbling in SW before a full on head dive into them...then a little bit of army building before trying out the SW ships, parting out retired sets along the way only to realize it leads to no where, and now slowly creeping into city building. Don't tell me you're looking into Friends this year because they're getting really good for city building...oh and also...are you looking into vintage polybags or sets right now? The vintage lego duck or bus perhaps? Guessing you'll be hunting for some of the SW helmets too in the next few months...starting with Boushh Leia?
Cool story bro
@@JackTheGrincher I forgot the last part where I end up deep in debt now and couldn't afford to get the latest sets but still trying to catch up on some Marvel figs before the new movies come out this year lol so I'm screwed 😂
@@orien2v2 haha was this all within the last 2 months? If so - too relatable. All I know is the dark age is over and it ended with a bang
This is literally the best Lego video I have ever watched.
The only thing that limits me is me being a kid and not having a disposable income. If and when I get a job, and I put my money into important stuff, I will unleash years worth of ideas like you won’t even believe it
Will definitely use this when I wanna build my own!!
Too bad professors don’t have Lego city presentations. 😂 Nice job!!! 💖
Shelf city life represent!!!
10/10, my absolute favourites
Unfortunately, I have very limited space, but I definitely agree that it does force me to be more creative and judicious about what models/MOCs to place in the City. I realise that I can't buy everything, so I try to make the best of what I can buy and position in the City (although that's partly why I'm not bothering with the Sanctum - although the exterior looks great, it doesn't feel as essential as other buildings are to a City).
Great video and great point about the customization. I just built my city and my favorite part is probably the little park I built from scratch.
Hey Holly, another great video! I’m wondering if you’ve found a way to store/organize lego bricks in a smaller living space?
Congrats on the sponsorship!
Its always great to see.
lol Glad to see another video in this style! Always entertaining! 😄
I had to take down my city to prepare for my move, but I've actually been working on a weird science-fiction city
Thanks Miss, I've taken lots of notes 😀
I am redoing my lego city and this was awesome
The video I’ve been waiting for!❤
So yes, I watched and weeks later, rewatched this video. And I did chuckle when you mentioned rewatching! I enjoyed this class :-)
You're videos are insighful and funny ,keep up the good work
Man, it got motivational at the end there. Now I want to go customize my city!
All of my Lego minifigures moved to Brick Nottingham, and now I weep myself to sleep.
5:34 made me laugh more than it should’ve
LEGO City Shelf/Streetfront/Bookcase REP 😩🙌🏼 No space for a full ass city, so a shelf will do the trick
I would like to have a Lego city but never had the room! But I love your shelf idea and never thought of it before now. I just want building and mini figures and no cars or roads. Thanks for this awesome video and to was absolutely fun to watch.
Hilarious video! Great editing also!
Thank you
Great city guide!
I love your background shots from Bricksie and Brickcafts lol. Can’t wait to see your finished city!
@Nathan Drake same here. Tho the two channels are vastly different. One puts pre-made sets next to each other the other creates their own world. I like both but tbh bricksie’s content can be wholesome from time to time.
Love this 😂 hope I can pass the class 🥳
Really enjoyed watching this especially as I just start the journey of creating my own LEGO city and documenting it on CZcams. But now all can think about is everyone just trying to flex with their old sets!
Funny and informative great lesson Prof Holly🤝
Every time I've already incorporated Holly's recommendation, I just hear Gina Cross saying "you are doing well" in my head. Sad to say though that I've had to pack up my lego city as of recent, so my favorite creations and touches are mostly gone now.
Another tip if you don’t have enough money or parts for roads - masking tape can be a good alternative (even if it might be considered cheating)
This is amazing! And funny! Why does Lego not have a professor for “Lego building for dummies” and why is she not that person?😂❤
A variety of modular buildings are based off Central Europe as well as american ones.
that intro for the sponsor was smooth
I’m making my own Lego City using mostly the 3 in 1 Creator sets that have buildings and businesses and apartments and a couple of the Lego City sets that I think fits what I want in my city. So far I have a Toy Shop, the Noodle Shop, and Pet Store and Cafe with the Lego City Camper and 3in 1 Creator Camper to have some vehicles.
I think the 3 in 1 sets are cool & really under-looked. They're almost perfect for people with limited space, they're like modular lites.
I'm Sorry.. 16 Modulars... SIXTEEN!?! Holly You Need To Pull Yourself Together, You're Starting To Embarrass Me
I’m sorry, I was only counting the standard line and failed myself in doing so
There Are 18 In The Standard Line
If you don't have any money, customized everything. Thats what I do. After 10 years, I still don't have a complete city. Holly has some high standers.
Bark bark join the furrerereyssss
I don't have a laptop. Does a desktop work?? Or am I expelled?
Can you tell me how to build a house/area? I want to build a private villa over the water with island features. However I have not a clue where to start or what pieces I need to get the ball rolling.
I have been putting off building a mini City for years. Now I have no reason to put it off. Great video. Is "How to ___ for Dummies" going to be a series? Random question, do you wear glasses?
She said she only wears her glasses when her eyes get tired.
didn't know.
@@IsaiahBuildStuff No worries 🙂

EPISODE 2!
My Lego city almost has all of these things😊
glasses = experience
indeed.
I think the greatest hits album needs to be updated
I love Holly's accent!
Why do you give me florence pugh/yelena belova Vibes…😂😂
I have three Medieval Blacksmith 21325 and a MOC castle. Does that count as a LEGO city?
Are there any more pictures of that aquarium at 15:45 floating around? That thing is sick
Check out Jangbricks’ channel, it’s part of his zoo.
This came at a very oportune time. I'd like to build City 17 from the Half-Life franchise. I haven't seen many European lego cities, let alone dystopian ones.
Oh, and it's the opposite approach to lego Cities. Everyone wants their city looking alive. The one I want won't look that alive.
You are hilarious 😂
I think the only way I could do a lego city is if I had a house with a seperate guest house. It's too much. I think 2 shelves is enough and just swap out what you're displaying as you like.
I don’t have the space for a LEGO city, I definitely want to eventually make one though.
do you have a useable book shelf? I have made a "city" on a book shelf once. It was good. Until my parents told me to take it down.
You could try making it in segments. Instead of having one giant map you could break it up and put it into its full form every once in a while.
No Joke, start on right now. Get off you phone or whatever and start making space. (If you want to, but I highly recomend it)
I don't have a city, I have and endgame final battle MOC. Which is better?
Um....
I don't have room for a city I just have the space in front of the tv in my room. I have 6 mocs built right now. Three of them are on 16by32 baseplates. I have a farm on a red baseplate. A pink castle on a pink baseplate and a garage moc on a heavily tiled yellow baseplate. You can't even see the color of the yellow baseplate. I got those from china. My park moc and my bedroom moc are on 8by16 baseplates. I made a kitchen moc too that ones on a 16by16 baseplate. I have two vehicles a fire truck and a vet ambulance. I also have 4 motorcycles. two are Lego one is captain America's and the others a police one. The other two come from dollar tree. I keep 3 of the motorcycles in my garage moc. I would keep the fourth but the second red one from dollar tree doesn't have brakes. I had to add the brakes using pieces I already had.
The only thing that i didnt like about the Video was not giving credits/Source of the Clips you used when showing off the cities of others.
One Shot was from Bob Brickman for example
1:25 yooo it's bella
It’s not feasible for most people to have a whole Lego city I personally put them on shelves like a mini city block and move them around from time to time.
I’m 19, and just started my Lego city for real a couple of months ago (I started working on it when I last moved seven years ago, but I didn’t have much disposable income), and it’s growing in such a fast pace that i’m auickly running out of space in my Lego room, so I’ve honestly been considering switching my bedroom and Lego room, since my bedroom is almost twice as large.
When I restarted the city in September I had the cafe corner, green grocer, town hall, a police station, a fire station, a hospital, a toy shop and the Ghostbusters HQ,
but now I’ve also got the monster fighters haunted house, the home alone house, the creator hillside house, the apple tree house, the palace cinema, the modular police station, the bookshop, assembly square and the sanctum sanctorum.
I started out using the 2021 road plates, but after my 11th pack I both realized that it was very expensive and that I didn’t like the look as much as the older road plates - so now I’ll have to get some of those as well. I get anywhere between 650 and 900 dollars a month from my job so I have to prioritize what I want to get every month, but i’m happy with how it’s going. I’m planning a big stop motion film project with my friends, so i’m building the city with the concept of that film in mind.
You don't have much disposable income, and you only started working on the city a couple of months ago, and yet you've got the Ghostbusters HQ?!?
@@GregOrCreg yeah I spent all my savings on it in 2016!
@@stewiegriffin4 Ah, I see. You were lucky. I missed the boat. I didn't get back into collecting Lego until a few years after my nephew was born, by which time the Ghostbusters HQ (my most wanted set) was out of production.
@hollyonfilm I really enjoyed that video 😁
what a fun video :)
Came across this video while in the process of converting the Scooby Doo Mystery Mansion to be a modular. That's worth at least 3 cred points, right?
That green screen clocked in to work one day and never went home
There are 18 modular buildings.
Not buying roads until you have a bigger budget saves money.
Speed Champions are on a different scale then Lego cities.
Lego should rerelease the old modulars.
As someone who has had a Lego city for years, starting with creator 3 in 1 or city sets is a good cheap starting point.
Its hard to customize you're Lego city a lot unless it's your job
I really like these LEGO for Dummies videos 👍.
And now, in order to be original I'll have to avoid building a city on a shelf, desk or bookcase... Which leaves me with the floor! I'm pretty sure that's not something we'll see anywhere else 😼
I want a city!!!!
How to build a LEGO city:
1. Have a lot of money
2. Have a lot of space
3. ???
4. Success 🎉
Basically, be Jang
I have both modular Marvel sets. Guess I have a Lego City now. Lol
As a LEGO city builder I’ll say if you’re on a budget embrace vintage LEGO. Become an #AFOOL (a fan of old LEGO) because vintage LEGO MOCs are attractive and cheap
10/10. Would do if not already broke
I just buy the small City sets. Don't want too much water over my head.
11:15 also 😊
1:24 BELLA 😍
Lol step 2 😂
✋ Excuse me teacher? Will this lecture be on the exam?
Yes so make sure you study your detailed
My Star Wars collection has taken all my room up so no cities for me.
With those glasses I have to assume she knows what she is talking about.
As much as I like the individuals builds themselves, the thing I don't care for Lego City is the same issue I have with modern city developments where the builders end up making their cities look the same.
With dose glasses she can teach any class lol
Miss OnFilm can I go now? The bell just went and I took 5 pages of notes so my hands hurt
The bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do…
Now my hand hurts too.
@@HollyOnFilm can you dismiss us now? I’m gonna miss my carpool. They leave in 5 minutes
One of my favorite Lego cities is the one Afol tv made. Check his channel out, his city is crazy.
I didn't pull out my electronics become I only have pintist lego amzox and youtube
Does one modular set and two custom modulars count ms Holly?🤣
yes. approved
I built my Republic gunship and turbo tank by buying the pieces from bricklink, no shame here.
9:38 ew that’s so much money who would do that
Can’t make a city, I’m broke
*sees afols spending thousands on modulars*
*just MOCs my own modulars*
Haha now I'm less broke.
Just wait until you see the arguments over using other brands in your city LOL
U used bob brickmans video from his city i know him
I thought "crop top ok vapid" but then kept listening... sorry I judged so soon .
You know you can just make custom Lego sets it’s not that hard
I am shameless, o buy lepin Modular's instead of second market. I save a lot of money in exchange for my dignity
Don’t worry I do the same lol
