  • BUILD NOTES
This ship would have to be my maxed out comedy-of-errors. Although it didn't take too long to put together, if I could make a mistake - I did. And this one is supposed to be an easier build that my Black Pearl and my Endeavour! :D
But first, the paddle steamers, the riverboats. Is there really any other perfect way to travel on water? (lets exclude periods of drought in this rhetorical question :) ) My admiration of such a boat stemmed from watching an Australian TV series titled 'All the Rivers Run'. I was hooked. It took many more years before I had experienced for myself - the quiet chugging of the steam engine, the swishing of water as the wheelpales rotate, the serenity of travelling on the Murray River in style on the paddleboats. Though nothing to the size of the King of the Mississippi.
Last year, for my grand 50th birthday, my bestie gave this kit to me as a present - as she had known about my dream to always want to build one. And this is where new challenges arose - and were adapted to. Excitedly, I opened the box, checked everything against the kit list and was very happy to see that pretty much - everything was there. A good start.
After the window painting had begun, the initial decks were made, I then tackled the engine room and stables. OUCH - I slipped with the stanley knife and decided to ...... well...... let's say I apparently needed a reminder on what blood looked like - from the inside of the index finger through the soft pad of the palm! A few steri-strips later (ummm like 5 of them). A trip to the doc's for an overdue tetanus needle. A course of antibiotics. (oh and the doc was amazed how well I had secured the wound - stitches not needed (phew). Back to the first aid kit, grab some protective bandages - and apply them. And yup - I was back into construction of the ship - albeit somewhat more carefully. (Same hand as the injury incurred whilst making the Black Pearl and the Endeavour. Lucky hand...
After this, I just had to smash one of the front curved staircases - and yes its very noticeable. Fortunately this was the worst of it. The most tedious part to build on this ship - were the railings ... ack... I never knew that .02mm could look so big when dealing with very small items. Yes, it is not a perfect build. It's a 'customised' build :D Would I make it again? Hell yes! :) :) :) I pray that some kind business-minded sole will be able to take the Artesania Latina company - rebuild it out of liquidation - just so this kit is always available in the future!. Okay - so I can dream? (And so I can one day get the other kits I was planning to collect... ho hum... instead, I'll just have to see what other companies have to offer, one day - probably a day in the distant future.

Discover the steamboat wooden model ship kit. The real steamer was entirely made of wood and equipped with boilers to move their iconic wheelpales, these ships were the solution to transporting passengers and merchandise along the river well into the twentieth century.
Steamboats played an important role in the development of the Mississippi River basin and its tributaries allowing a convenient transportation in both directions of the river. They helped to reduce the solitude of the immensity of America as 'theater boats'. America is not just modernism: it's also romance and dreams! Dream and fall in love now with this unique model that will beautify any of the rooms at home!
