Ethiopia Kenya South Sudan Fast Track $25 Billion Lapsset Infrastructure Project
Africa's investment by country is at an all-time high. Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Sudan recently reaffirmed their commitment to the LAPSSET Corridor Program, a massive $25 billion East African infrastructure project. The Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor project, also known as the Lamu corridor, is a Kenyan transportation and infrastructure project that will be the country's second transport corridor when completed.
The Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor, which begins in Lamu, Kenya, is the region's largest and most ambitious infrastructure project, connecting the three countries with vital infrastructural projects such as ports, highways, railways, an oil pipeline, and airports. The $25 billion infrastructure LAPSSET Corridor project, which will link Kenya with Ethiopia, Uganda and South Sudan, has its headquarters in Magogoni in Kenya’s historic coastal town of Lamu. The far-reaching project involves a railway, a highway, a crude oil pipeline and a fiber-optic cable connecting the four countries. The project will also include several airports, resort cities, an oil refinery, a 32-berth port in Lamu and other supporting infrastructure mini-projects. Once completed, the LAPSSET railway will connect to West Africa’s Douala-Lagos-Cotonou-Abidjan Corridor, running through Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire respectively. Experts view the LAPSSET project as a major contribution to the African Union’s regional integration vision of a peaceful, prosperous and fully integrated continent by 2063.

There may be 100 million Ethiopians but the market is probably smaller than 5 million for anything more expensive than soap. I thought that was obvious but obviously I was wrong.
Moreover, we already have a good road linking Nairobi to Moyale and another one from Nairobi to Mombasa. So the question is, is there enough trade traffic to justify a 3rd port, after djibouti & Mombasa?
The fact that there's been negligible progress, 10 years after the project was launched should already be proof enough that lapset is unviable

      1. Why resort to abuse I used john Allan as a reference point not necessarily you.
      2. Do you know what investing in people means. Ama put it you in a layman's language so that you understand some of this things.
      A. We have to stop looking at every return of investment on every project in terms of monetary. This a product of being subjected to too much western way of thinking. Countries that have long realize this are the ones thriving
      B. To emphasize my first point look at countries like Japan and China who have long stopped looking at the economic sense but the impact of a project how they are thriving. Example look at the money Japan is pouring to its Tokyo metro line. It's something that will never be recovered in this lifetime but they tend to look at the problem it solves and the impact meanwhile US who tend to be economical in every project have some the most poorest amenities and to put it in the words of their own former president " there's no difference between our amenities and the ones In third world countries." Even passing an infrastructure bill to upgrade some of their dilapidated amenities was an issue the other day because of economical sense.
Another thing before you come at me with US this US that do you know that America owes China close to $2 trillion (ksh 200trillion) and Japan their biggest lender $12trillion(multiply by 100 to get ksh)

Mombasa Port is the third in Sub-saharan Africa and 5th in Africa. 19 berths; grain terminal, 2 oil terminals/jetties, 4 container berths, and 12 general cargo berths. What's your obsession and competition with Kenya. Other countries want to be number 1 in the world but Tanzanians will take pride they have more houseflies than Kenya.
