    Thank you for explaining everything clearly; it’s super helpful.
    I’m applying to grad schools rn. Would you recommend reaching out to professors now or waiting til I’m admitted to the masters program?

    Is it possible to get a RA position outside my department? I’m from engineering management and I’d like to get a RA position in Data science.

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety +8

      Yes, it's totally possible. Make a resume and a cover letter talking about your experience in Data Science and use the same when applying to such RA positions or attach them while dropping an email to professors/RAs. I would highly recommend doing some personal projects in your free time as they really showcase your interest in the field and employers in the US appreciate them a lot. Also, mention the same in your resume/cover letter.

    Do we get full tution fee waiver for TA and GA jobs? Does these jobs depends on the type of MS we are doing like course based or thesis based.

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před rokem

      Yes, it depends on university and program. Usually, universities offer an hourly pay of around $20/ hr for TA and RAs.

    Hey Mayank, thank you for explaining .
    I wanted to know when is the best time to apply for TA positions if I am a student of spring 24. Also what are some of the challenges one might face while applying to TA's as a spring student.

    • @FellowBrownie

      Hey! I'd suggest to start applying as soon as you get access to your university portal. There should be a jobs page where you can see on campus job listings. You can do this even before coming to the US.

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety +9

      Hey! In my experience, not a lot of students did that. It takes great efforts to do be present in most of the office hours of professor and TAs and since they're optional, most of the students fail to do that. Some professors are also comfortable in sharing their phone number, try to drop a text, or call them as per their availability. If you try enough, you can always get an on-campus job, it all depends on how much effort you put in to get one. Hope it helps :)

    So,should I apply now for TA/RA jobs now or later?
    Can we send mail to professors for this job with our personal email id or should send with college official email id

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety +3

      Hey! Start looking for on-campus jobs around 2 months before you plan to be in the US. It would be ideal if you send email through your school email id as that would look more legit and the chance of getting a response from a professor would be higher. Also, just a general tip, try to use your college email id in your intern and full-time search as well. You'll have access to it even after you graduate.

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes, you can. Usually, undergrad professors would be comfortable in doing that. Make sure to send a resume and a cover letter as well outlining your background in the field and you should be good :)

      @lucykelly499 Před 4 lety

      Also, if you work with the undergrad professors, do you get tuition reduction as well?

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety

      @@lucykelly499 You definitely stand a chance. Start looking/applying online on the university job portal 2 months before you're planning to be in the US or on-campus. In case, you get a response to your application, respond to them by telling your expected start and also request a telephonic interview.

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety

      @@lucykelly499 What you get from a TA/RA job depends a lot on the university. Most universities would just pay you around $20/hr. for working as a TA/RA while there are some universities which offer a discount in tuition fee, free university health insurance, etc. Generally, it's the full-time employees of a university who get tuition fee discounts and even free courses, that's one of the perks of working full-time at a university.

    • @FellowBrownie
      @FellowBrownie  Před 4 lety +6

      As an international student, you're allowed to work 20 hrs/week, so you can spend any ratio with a total of 20 hrs in any number of jobs. For e.g. spend 10 hrs a TA and 10 hrs working at an on-campus restaurant. Hope it clears the doubt :)
