    Love the shallow play. We always read the shallow to dig and when the safety began to jump the dig, we would help the QB by calling “shallow high” he then knew to read the safety. If he jumped the dig, we threw post, if he played the post, throw dig. Just one way we simplified the QB’s job. Of course, we were small school and we practiced both sides of the ball, and had limited practice time.

    Coach, I have referred to the Dig-Post combo as pyramid. Would then read shallow-pyramid-back.

    At 4:44 no quarterback looks at grass lol and he didn’t come off of anything 🤦🏻‍♂️ this was his first read. Chins up, and his eyes are DOWN field. This ball was cocked and ready to go from the snap. C’mon coach 😂

      Safety saw the QB eyes down field and jumped the wrong route got greedy ,I agree QB had his mind made from snap but coach is right on the shallow dig concept

      @@LordOzunuRXR look go outside with your kids and throw the ball around for a bit. You’ll start to realize a few things about chuckin the ball down the field that you might’ve forgot. The reasoning behind why the post comes first is simple mechanics. It’s easier to load the arm up for a big throw and then take something off of it, then to try to add last second juice to a big boy throw on a split second decision. Post, dig, check down. His eyes should have a natural path in his progress.

    Also coach, it’s first down in your opponents territory. This is an excellent time to dial up a deep shot progression that works to a check down. The way you explained it with him reading the shallow first, this dump off to the shallow definitely would have been thrown early because this is an easy 3-4 yards. Nice chunk to continue the drive. That backer sitting like that was enough to let the recover know to throttle it down and get ready to settle. If Q was readin it from to back this ball would’ve been out and the drive would’ve continued. The reason he’s lookin in that direction is not because of that flat zone defender. He’s looking to set his eyes in the direction of both the post and the dig. The way you explained it had him reading the outside backer, safety and middle for the dig. That’s not true. Its actuality just the front side safety to the mike. If the safety doubles the post, look to the mike. If the mike covers the dig, find the shallow cross for a chunk.

      I didn't say what they did was wrong. Just that it's not the traditional read of Shallow...Appreciate your comment. Thanks for Watching.

    You’re right you’re supposed to for this concept read the Dig-Shallow first. The post is ALERT ya briefly check the safety and then throw it or of course look off, some people mess up the system due to forcing their QB to read parts of the play and end up being too slow on the short routes which are ya first read and younger qbs often panic thinking they missed their timing when actually their coach screwed them over by teaching them to read the wrong part new sub ya vids seem good fam

    • @isaacava920
      @isaacava920 Před 4 lety

      D'KODA no disrespect but yall have got this wrong. If you teach your young QB to read the dig shallow first, you’re going to cripple him for the future. Because now his eyes are all over the place and this progression gets all jacked up. Run this concept in 7 on 7 vs Quarters and have your QBs read it front side safety to mike backer. Front side safety lets you know if it’s the dig or post, mike backer let’s you know if it’s a shallow cross. You’ll notice his eyes go from up to down. And that’s good. Eyes up to see the coverage. Call it until the D covers it. As the play progresses and they start to cover the post and dig, you’ll see him starting to check it to that shallow cross. That’s good. Then take it to your team and 11 on 11 period. Now you’re QBs used to working from top to bottom and he sees the coverage. But as the coverage starts to double that post and see the dig, QBs eyes will start to come down. As they come down he’ll have to train himself to look at the mike backer. You as a coach will notice that the pressure is starting to get to his face because we’ve come to the bottom of our progression. The timing works out that if he don’t have his deep shot, he has an outlet to the left where his eyes and shoulders were pointing anyways. And on offense, timing is everything. Fyi Q also has a check release from the back to the right which is also his throwing arm side to extend the play and get something out of it.

      Isaac Ava I taught my QB to check the Post first cause it is alert. It isn’t excepted to be open a lot as teams would rather give 10-15 easy yards then 30-50 chunk plays. So we start there reading the safety and progressing to the middle with the Dig-Shallow which will be reading the mike and likely the other backer in the region progressing off of that to the RB slipping out in the flat. Reading from left to right and most of the time far right with the RB. Is this how his eyes would be all over the place? He has a clear line of reasoning to follow and thus far he has proved well running the play, but maybe try and elaborate on how you would say the read progression be, just so I can get a better understanding on it

  • @isaacava920
    @isaacava920 Před 4 lety

    At about the 5 min mark, when you got a dig post concept like this vs quarters, you’re actually playing the quarters safety to the shallow cross. Post/dig is a one player same timing throw and then you work down to the check down. Throughout the game OCs look for the depths at which safeties lock on to #2 in Quarters. Once that’s exposed, you take this shot and break the dig off just past that point (typically teams lock after 8yds, 10yds or 12yds). Here Q is just waiting to see the reaction of the safety. So in Q’s mind it’s post cuz we should have the right depth for the dig to have it open, if not then just work it down dig n check down.

    You are wrong. He looked at the post the whole way. As soon as the safety drives on the dig he threw the post.
