    I have a new Lariat coming. A lot of owners are complaining about the thin coat of paint the Maverick has. I don’t live near the ocean, but this is what happened to 60’s and 70’s cars, totally unacceptable today.

    Paint it bright yellow and it would fit in on "Baywatch." All cars will rust out NEXT TO THE SEA!

    Have it sprayed with a rustproofing solution every year like I do. My 2008 Ranger is rust free. The Maverick was treated for the first time after 50 kms adn will be done yearly from now on. The product we use is called Krown. It also protects the wiring harnesses. It does drip for a few days but the results (like my 2008 Ranger) speak for themselves.

    Newer paint systems are more environmentally friendly but less protective. This is the world we live in. Nothing comes without a penalty.
    Galvanized steel is a good place to start. Galvanized panels hold up better over time. I have no idea what Ford uses for the Maverick but my experience with VW/Audi is it helps.

    Undercoat your vehicle like we do here in the salt belt. Fluid Film is your answer.....undercoating, in your key holes, door latches, everywhere.

  • @NarySllim
    @NarySllim Před 8 měsíci

    I get overly concerned about rust on any vehicle, my advice is pop out the tail lights and spray, a metal coating like fluid film or something equivalent all inside of the rear fenders. That’s going to be a major rust spot as it’s pretty much wide-open from underneath.

    Just like all of my other fishing gear. If I'm fishing saltwater (also in FL), I rinse all of my rods and reels and stuff when I get home. Same thing for the vehicle, to the car wash we go. Paying $20 a month for endless carwashes is a brilliant investment if you use your truck for actual truck purposes.

    I’m considering putting a sealant between the fender flares and wheel well liner. I’m in the middle of a deep dive of rubber versus asphalt versus oil undercoating. Good point on getting a skid plate for my truck as I’ll be in the mountains and in Maine, New Hampshire and Idaho a lot. Your topics, thoughts, presentation and mannerisms are great, I predict strong growth for your channel.

    Yes, I also noticed a little discoloration in the door lock, but only in one and it is very little. The only thing I don't like about the maverick is that the paint layer is too thin.

    • @maverickoverlandadventures
      @maverickoverlandadventures  Před rokem

      As small as it is, I've had locks rust to the point they almost didn't work so that's why I was worried about it! I don't use my key at all so those things are never turned. Easy for them to rust up when sitting for a while.
      And I agree about the paint. They did it because it's another way they could keep the retail price of the truck down which I like a lot, it is also just slightly inconvenient. But hey, I'll take it since the truck was so cheap!

    The plastic rocker panels and other plastic trim are going to promote rust not prevent it. Moisture and salt will get trapped in between the actial body and the plastic trim panels and then rust. They are easier to clean the outside and prevent damage to the paint but, in a few years has plastic body panels are still going to get scuffed and scratched and sun-faded

    • @maverickoverlandadventures
      @maverickoverlandadventures  Před rokem +1

      You're right that the plastic will get scratched and sun-faded over time. The reason that I didn't discuss that as being important in this video thought is because this video is focused on rust and corrosion issues. While the plastic will fade, it will not rust and will remain in tact for many years.
      In regard to the plastic trim trapping moisture, you are likely right as well in some places on the truck, but if you get under there and take a look, a lot of the plastic on the underside and in the wheel wells is actually spaced fairly far from the metal, leaving a pretty large gap that should allow moisture to not be trapped on the metal. While any moisture being trapped against the body isn't ideal, it will protect the paint in those high-wear erase preventing chips which is where the real rust issues will stem from. I think the plastic protecting the paint is the better option personally, than not having it at all.

    Those "skid plates" are not actually skid plates. Even the front being 2 pieces of metal cannot handle the weight of the Maverick. The 3 compressed fiber under-body panels are standard on every Maverick trim. I think those 3 are for aerodynamics and helping to prevent stone chips plus reduce the noise of stones.... but definitely not skid plates lol.
    My non FX4 Maverick has AWD but i prefer the 1 piece under-engine aero shield. I have heard the 2 piece shield needs both removed for an oil change.

    • @maverickoverlandadventures
      @maverickoverlandadventures  Před rokem

      They actually do a pretty decent job of preventing rocks, sticks, and other foreign objects from getting up into the underside of the truck. My engine bay is far cleaner than any of my previous vehicles because of them too.

    Remember before the insane markups, this was designed as a 20K truck. They cut money everywhere, including procedures, processes, and coatings that combat rust. My neighbors muffler was rusting at 6 weeks. A year later it has rust in quite a few areas including the doors. C'mon Ford. I feel sorry for the people that just had to have one and paid 40K. Face it, this is a CHEAP truck.
