    Things that the Wii Version had that the 360 version does not have:
    - Sacred Shrine
    - Use X & A for homing attack (For the gamecube controller)
    - A homing attack engine that actually works perfectly in daytime stages
    - Cool animation of the tornado going from continent to continent
    - Werehog can stun enemies
    - You get Sun/Moon medals by completing missions through stages rather than doing a scavenger hunt in stages & villages.

    Crimson Carnival Day Wii is one of the best final stages in the entire series. Right up there with Final Fortress, Death Egg, and Asteroid Coaster. It is truly the culmination of everything you've learned. It's not overly padded like the HD version, nor is it tedious, It's thrilling the entire way through. It doesn't have that many alternate paths but it doesn't really need them, because the main path is a ruthless 5-minute long gauntlet that truly tests your control of Sonic. The music is simultaneously disturbing and erie, and motivating at the same time.
    There was nothing more satisfying than getting that S Rank

    Sonic Unwiished has my favorite boost gameplay. Holaska in particular is so much fun. Something about it feels tighter and less twitchy than the other boost games. I also feel like it has a way better balance between 3d and 2d segments compared to a lot of other boost games.

    I always considered Unwiished to be a game primarily limited by its hardware rather than by any of its design elements (at least for the day portions). Considering that the Unleashed Project is more or less completed for Generations, I'd love to see these stages given a proper go with the Hedgehog engine provided that they could port the unique boost meter. Seeing these play at the same fidelity as Unleashed and Generations would go a long way in garnering more respect for them. Great video as always!

    I hope that you talk about the night sections. Oddly enough, I really enjoy the night sections (particularly in the HD version) because of the combat of the game. I enjoy it as a break from the go as fast as possible and the shift to being a beat-em up with combos that make you feel stylish. It's not Devil May Cry or Bayonetta, but for a Sonic game having this playstyle, it's very fun to me.

      @thatitalianlameguy2235 Před rokem +3

      @@Lowart did you upgrade yourself, since the combos become really exhilarating and strong the more levels you gain, the low point I'd say are the bosses because you don't get to punch them much and instead just wait for a weak point to be exposed like 90% of platforming bosses,which reminds me of the dmc reboot. The music is also an issue but the ps3 lets you stream your own music over gameplay so I fixed it by lowering the music volume to 0 in the game settings and putting on the actual night stage music that is so good

    • @pengusol18
      @pengusol18 Před rokem +2

      @@Lowart That's totally fair. Night can feel very repetitive and clunky. I think that the combat was the only thing that really carried that half of the game. I think if you're going to be tackling modern Sonic as a whole for these videos, that's going to be a good perspective on how you take on future games. The comparison of what Unleashed started with and how the series expands upon it in the future is what I'm most excited for you to talk about.

I love both versions (both day and night stages) and I know how hard it would be to see or remake a demake version of a game... as mods for existing games won't be close at all to the escence of the gameplay just like people who thinks that Unleashed stages in Generations are the "definitive way to play" because probably those people haven't really played Unleashed in the first place...

    This was my first contact with Sonic Unleashed.
    Well... kinda, actually my first contact with Sonic Unleashed was with the PS2 version in 2010, here in Brazil consoles like PS3, Xbox 360 and even the Wii were stupidly expensive at the time so the PS2 became a gateway to those who wanted a console but couldn't afford so much, that's why I'm very grateful to Sega for releasing Sonic Unleashed on the PS2, years later I was able to see the Wii version and play the PS3 version, but still I keep the PS2 version fondly.
    I love this version, even though it's not as complex or complete as the HD version, I love the design of the day stages and I honestly think the night stages are better in this version than the HD version especially because they don't last as long as the HD version. (and not have so much framerate drop)
    I know it's almost impossible, but I hope the Wii/PS2 version is re-released someday, even if it's in the Playstation Plus classics catalogue, I honestly think it deserves as much recognition as the HD version.

  • @justsomesimplenuclearbirbs4313

    UnWiished may get a lot of flak because it's well... ya know, a game on the Wii.
    But honestly I prefer how UnWiished its ranking system over every other Sonic game and is why I'm kinda glad Frontiers decided to make the Ranks tied to your time rather than the overall score.
    Not even the Nighttime stages follow the traditional ranking system, instead opting to rank based off of how fast you completed the stage and how many Rings and Dark Gaia energy you collected.
    As a result, Sun & Moon Medals are 100% optional and are only obtained from getting S Ranks and beating missions. Only being used to unlock extra missions, hints, music, concept art, cutscenes and give more permanent Extra Lives.
    That's right, Extra Lives *don't* get replenished via collecting 100 Rings. Instead automatically replenishing after every stage regardless if you cleared it, quit the stage or got a Game Over. Of course like previously mentioned, getting 100 Rings in a stage won't grant an Extra Life and instead more lives can be obtained *once* via the Gaia Gates. Also as previously mentioned, the lives are permanent in case it wasn't completely obvious. Although unfortunately I forgot the exact number of max lives you end up having. I think it was 13 but it could either be more than that or less than that.

    While I will agree that Unwiished is good, the HD version is still better. And yes, I played the PS2 version before the HD one. I will say that I don't really like the SD version's boost. How it only works in increments. It's still a good game, but the HD version is just better. Higher res, better Sonic model, stuff like that. The levels are different and both good in their own right, but I still believe that the HD version is the better version. You did make a good point in that this game, both versions, are more like racing games than platforming games.

    Sonic unleashed wii doesn't deserve respect the HD version does though. Is what I said before I watched and after I did I started to respect it.

    Sonic unleashed is a good game. The wii version seems to be the superior one

    Sonic unleashed is like the Mario Galaxy of Sonic, the most legendary and nostalgic Sonic game and fantastic gameplay and soundtrack
    And btw the hd version is trash

    I mean half of the game was great the other half was a ball and chain that only got heavier the longer you played

    Unwiished has pretty decent day stages, too bad the night ones have no combos and force you to motion mash and do platforming with a really bad jump,which is pretty important when they're half the game. The night stages in the HD versions have so many fun combos, and much better platforming, which makes them pretty entertaining even though they are too easy for action game standards. The wiihog is such a chore and the idea that "you play less of him because the stages are shorter" is just a placebo because there's more night stages they're just split into smaller chunks you can save in between, and the night stages are much easier to get done with by skipping platforms with skills and fighting well

    I got bored playing Sonic Unwiished after playing for 10 Minutes in Apotos stage 1. The HD version is more better then Unwiished
