Smart figuring out the grounding situation. I built a tube amp from scratch, with a push pull output, so it was pretty loud. Yet… I had hum, which was caused by grounding problems. Ground loops and just grounding schemes in general, can be tricky, to say the least. You’ll see a lot of guitar amps that use the all plastic input jacks, to isolate them from the chassis. For me it was one of those things I never thought about until it bit me right in the butt, while building that tube amp. Anyway… once again, I’m impressed by your ability to figure out issues as you read the schematics and go along. Changing the subject a bit, it is said the mojo is in the transformers… and you’ve got three there to play with. That could be fun! Also, you might study the components in the compressor section… and see if you can make adjustment to its parameters with some different components here and there. Just got one of these. The lo-Z hi-Z is tricky. I have two lo-Z transformers which I plan to run a broadcast phono preamp to since it outputs a 200ohms. I’m super glad that you posted this. Do you know how to get stereo out? I’m assuming that you need to run out from the Aux or tape boost.
I thought this piece of equipment was really interesting and I'm glad to share the project. I don't believe you can get stereo out of this unit though, all the outputs are just different options for mono. The TAPE/ OUTPUT (rca jack) comes from the middle of the circuit, after the compression and master level, but before the EQ stage. The TAPE/ BOOSTER (rca jack) is actually coming out of the output transformer and reflects all the stages of the circuit; compression, master level, and the EQ stage. If I wanted a line level output from this unit, I'd use the TAPE/ BOOSTER.
