Very sad sight but then Translink are obsessed with trashing great trains as well as ruining stations with their obsessive lifting of passing loops .. Ballinderry, Crumlin and utterly destroying the picturesque Castlerock. ..
They want as much single track as possible .. it so confuses them knowing which track to use. Hence three stations lost their passing loops. Meanwhile the entire Belfast to Ballymena line, opened in 1848, was reduced from double track to single track over 20 years back as this single line policy is long term. First the section from Antrim to Ballymena, removing the Down line, moving all the signals to stand in the middle of the disused down track, later lifting it. Then they merrily switched the trains from Antrim to Belfast via Crumlin while they removed the double track from Antrim to Bleach Green. Then they put a new single track down to replace the double track Bleach Green to Antrim and made a big show of reopening the line which they closed. And banged on about the new shorter journey time to Antrim now. And thus they closed the Lisburn Antrim line as they like closing lines ... claiming that it will now take 30 million to reopen it. Finally opening a new passing loop at Killagan so trains can pass SOMEWHERE on the single line trail. 😕
Obviously a hard beanie-hat area. Whoever slung the prime-mover did not work out the balance at all. The single chain at the generator was taking 90% + of the load.
But is this really how NIR treat their faithful old trains they throw them away? That is disgraceful I hope they preserved at least 1 80 class R.I.P 1974-2016 ÷(
Please tell me they preserved an 80s Thumper?? I know Downpatrick Railway got a 450 class - but there was vagueness for months about getting one of those beautiful 80 class engines. Any news? Are there any left, not scrapped that can be saved?
Terrible, like a snuff movie. Surely this and the others could have been preserved, I spent a LARGE portion of my life travelling on these and they were miles more comfortable than the Castle's
James Braithwaite York Road Depot is in Belfast Northern Ireland. And now days you need a strong cutter to get through the strong and well built body of these trains
Bye bye thumper
Fond memories travelling on these years ago, such a distinctive sound
Would love to see them on Train Sim
You could not beat the sounds of the thumper
We need this I tsw fr bro
That's another very sad sight. R.I.P 80 class unit number 94.

Very sad, I hope they will decide to preserve one.
Thankfully one 4 car set should be getting preserved
NIR screwed everything.. They should put them in The Transport and Folk museum or donate them to Downpatrick or something..
Iarnród Eireann Trains Are *you* going to pay the scrap price and the on going maintenance cost so they can sit in a museum with very few visitors?
2 2 Car 80 Class sets went to Downpatrick for preservation
R.i.p 80 class 1974-2016 so sad to see them go

Ryan McConnell They could have been preserved but would *you* pay for it?
I may not be the biggest MU fan but this is still quite sad
The Class 80s Did Not Deserve to be scrapped
You are right no 80 class deserves to die.
Not one 80 class deserves this fate but the 3000 class caf railcars do deserve it
Nirtrainman Yeah 300's Suck
Why did they scrap the 80 class power car for dad rip
A sad end to such long service
Thankfully no modern railcars should out live the 80 class
You should've txt e and i would've went with you mathew
That's a sin :(
;(
Why don't they use gas axes like in the 1960's? It would save more metal & be maybe a little less dangerous. By the way, where's York Road?
James Braithwaite York Road Depot is in Belfast Northern Ireland. And now days you need a strong cutter to get through the strong and well built body of these trains
omg why the hell are they doing this 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Well sadly 94's engine died in 2014 so she was useless so NIR decided to scrap her.
