Taistelukenttä (2020) on erityisesti varusmieskoulutukseen tarkoitettu opetuselokuva. Elokuva on osa alokasjaksolla sekä aliupseeri- ja reserviupseerikursseilla annettavan taistelukoulutuksen oppimateriaalia. Lisäksi videota hyödynnetään reserviläisten ja myös henkilökunnan koulutuksessa. Videon tarkoituksena on antaa koulutettaville realistinen kuva Puolustusvoimista kokonaisuutena, poikkeusolojen olosuhteista ja toimintaympäristöstä sekä uhkamalleista ja valmiuden säätelystä. Puolustusvoimien palvelukeskus on tuottanut opetuselokuvan Pääesikunnan koulutusosaston tilauksesta vuosien 2016-2020 aikana. Elokuva korvaa vuonna 1998 julkaisun aiemman Taistelukenttä-elokuvan.

@@MuamerkkiGaming Apua ei tule ilman NATOa, poislukien vähän aseita ja kauniita sanoja. Ukraina puolustaa kovalla asenteella vaikka niillä on huonompi kalusto ja pienempi reservi kuin meillä. Afganistanissa näkyi että jos puolustustahtoa ei ole, hienot aseet eivät auta mitään. Kun näkee millaisia hirmutekoja venäläiset ovat tehneet Butshassa ja muualla, luulisi jokaisen ymmärtävän armeijan tarpeellisuuden. Olisi pakko laittaa vastaan, koska muuten edessä olisi sama kuin Butshassa. Ihan jokaisella, oli "vakaumus" sitten mikä hyvänsä. NATO on paras vaihtoehto maan turvaamiseksi.

@@Whydidyoudothis Toisaalta tämä osoittaa, että mitään laaja-alaista yllätyshyökkäystä on hankala tehdä, että todennäköisesti ei mennä normaalitilanteesta rajan yli tuleviin panssarikolonniin päivässä. Ukrainan tilanteen huomioiden reaktio ja valmistelut sellaiseen joukkojen rajalle kokoamiseen olisi varmasti myös vahvempi ja varhaisempi kuin Ukrainassa oli.

If you talk with pensioners, they might actually have no idea that's not the case. So, you will have to forgive foreigners from outside of the Nordic countries for not knowing. It's not like such knowledge would affect their lives, unless they are geography teachers.

Moi! This is beautiful. Here in the US we used to have a country like this. A country of brothers, sisters, friends, family. People who shared a common bond and sense of community and would gladly fight to defend each other and their homes. I fear that has been lost in recent years. However growing up in the upper Peninsula of Michigan, many of my good friends were Finnish, and I was lucky enough to visit Finland a few years back. There's a story about a Lieutenant Colonel by the name of Nikke Pärmi, who was the commander of the only punitive (strengthened) battalion in the Finnish army in WW2, the Musta Nuoli/ Black Arrow... he had a habit of interviewing all new arrivals, generally from prisons etc.
When told that the recruit had been serving a life sentence for murdering an other man, he notably said:
"Good, we need experienced professionals in this war!"
Finnish humour, but the story is true, and the battalion was reformed three times before Feb-1942, due to terrible casualties on the way East to Karhumäki. in Eastern Karelia

Finland has the largest artillery in Europe (excluding Russia), one of the strongest air defenses in Europe, one of the largest armored forces in Europe with Leo 2´s plus tens of thousands of anti-tank missiles. 900 000 personnel in military reserve. And the other Europeans ask are you afraid? No, why would I be.
After WW2 and especially Putin now, they potrayed Putin's signature "little green men", unmarked Russian mercenaries/soldiers here, down to the poor logistics and troop placements and how they rely on blitzkrieging, instead of, you know, good warfare doctorine. Plus war crimes (poisoning the water supply, interfering with economics, etc) like what they do now in Ukraine. It's horrifying if you spend even a second thinking about it.

What would decide the war is how early Finnish government decides to mobilize.
@@DruidEnjoyer Timing is crucial yes, but Finland would know about it way in advance, before an actual attack would commence, the US reconnaissance would make sure of that with their satellites. Same with the Ukraine situation, they knew Russia was stacking troops at their borders by the day, but weren't taking the threat seriously. Russia also can not mobilize all of its reserves and an attack in war comes at a high cost for maintenance, equipment and manpower.
Notice that both Ukraine and Finland (in this theoretical scenario) start mobilization too late.

Finnish military seems to have the best of both east and the west when it comes to equipment and vehicles.
Eastern Block copied stuff is used at places when they are actually cheap and practical, like with the AK, some of the anti-air stuff, logistical trucks etc.
Then the fighter jets, main battle tanks, helicopters etc are from the west. In general all the more complicated high tech stuff is from the west, and the rugged "simple" stuff is from the east. Also when DDR collapsed, Finland bought basically all the 7.62×39mm ammo they had. So Finland has a lot of bullets. Ammo last decades when stored properly.

In the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact Germany already greenlighted that Finland would be part of the Soviet sphere, just like the Baltics. Also if the goal was to just "move the borders a bit in Karelia", then why invade along the entire border?
Most damning evidence against this narrative of Soviets never wanting to take over all of Finland, is the fact that Soviet Union created the future puppet government of Finland.

This thing was created at the beginning of war, and discontinued after the peace treaty. Had Soviets actually won, Finland would had become a Soviet puppet state just like the Baltics.
It was never about just moving the border a bit to secure Leningrad. Unless by "a bit" you mean moving the border all the way to the Swedish and Norwegian borders.

My father fought in the Talvisota as a 17 year old when the neighbor attacked. I was born and raised in the U.S., but I felt very Finnish watching this. Very proud that they are always ready if the neighbor comes back.

Before the communism the Crimean Tatars were still the biggest ethnic group in their ancestral home country of Crimea - despite of more than hundred years of Russian occupation and persecution.
The Russians only became the majority after the WW2, after the Stalin's forced deportations of Tatars and the flood of new Russian settlers.
When the USSR disintegrated, the Tatars were finally able to return - to find their homes stolen by the Russian invaders.
Before the recent Russian military occupation the number and share of the Tatars were recovering - unlike the number and share of the Russians, which were diminishing and were "only" c. 50 % of the total population.
As a Chinese who is living in Finland, totally respect the Finnish spirit of sisu sisu, also I hope, all these imaginary scenes will never ever happen in reality...

God, they got it all so correct. This is _exactly_ what Russia tried to do to Ukraine: the cruise missile attack on the airfields, the attempt at seizing an airfield early on in the fight, the infiltration attempts via paratrooper, the forward observation posts on the islands that got overrun, the horde of armor rolling over the border after all this and getting canalized into killzones.
Russian/Soviet basic MO is taking airfield via quick strike and then reinforce troops with quick landing of troops via transport planes. Ukraine was able to repulse this.

A reporter asked the defence forces "how can you possibly be there in one minute when your nearest airfield is 20 minutes away?" And here comes the epic response: "Exactly."
Ok the reporter wasn't satisfied with that and asked the Minister of Defence the same question and the answer: "Our planes are where they need to be at the right time".

Looks like Finland has prepared for what is happening in Ukraine right now. Btw, a great production!
It's more an extended preparation for the 2014 scenario where some "green men" special forces action combined with actual small assaults with very limited air force from the enemy.
What Ukraine is going through is Russia actually not pulling any punches. Only way for them to escalate any further is to use tactical nukes or go full WW3 total mobilization mode.
This video's scenario still is all about some sneaky quick victory scheme.

Note that the 1998 film was made the year before Putin came to power, when we in the West thought the Russians were no threat to us...the Finns never took their eye of the ball, however.
