I take you on a journey around Minsk on a Saturday afternoon where I do some chores and even go Soviet mural hunting. I also give you some advice on tips on living and working abroad. Check it out.

As a British expat who has been living very happily in the Serebrianka district of Minsk for the last 12 years, I confirm that Minsk is a very good place to live. Additionally Serebrianka whilst being one of the older "Soviet" parts of Minsk away from the city centre, like the rest of Minsk (and Belarus) it is extremely well maintained and clean as well as being very safe. I feel a lot safer here than I did in many years living in Cambridge and London in the UK.
That's interesting, as a native Minsk citizen I would say that this district is definitely not considered "safe" amongst local residents. For a long time (90s, 00s, early 10s) it was one of the most criminal areas in Minsk along with Shabany, Avtozavod and Chizhovka. I'm curious - what part of the district do you live in?

I have been living in Serebryanka for my whole life, which is 34 years. If we are talking about Minsk that was built during soviets, I should say that the district is quite young. Most of the modern Serebryanka was built in the 70-80s. That's part of the reason why this place was so dangerous in the 90s. When the Union collapsed and most of it became a "bad neirborhood" for a decade, lots of families in Serebryanka had kids of 15-25 years old. The generation were looking for ways to make something of themselfes, get some money, and get some fun. In the 90s it was crimial activities for the young lads. That's why it was so dangerous in the district back in the days and that's why there are a bit more drunkers and unhappy families now. Yet all the talks about Serebryanka being less safe now are mostly built upon the 90s legends. In that time there was no chance you'd be able to get a cab to Palyesse night shop - there were people stabing people every single night. Nowadays Serebryanka is getting old and now is as safe as all the rest of the city. It's a beautiful place with lots of trees and water, good transportation, etc. Parking is a huge problem, but that's again true for most of the city.
Why of course it is a good place to live since you retain your passport of a first world country and should all hell break loose like in 2020 you’ll be the first one to jump on the first plane out of there. It is also so clean and safe as if some dictatorial hand is suffocating everything. As Belarus national who lived there for 20 years you make me fucking sick. Renounce your first world citizenship and try living there like an actual belarussian with no life line to the free world. But of course you people will never do that

Love Minsk, been there twice and spent many happy hours walking around the city I’m a big fan of Soviet architecture so a great way to pass the time. A big shout out to the people of Belarus really nice, friendly and helpful folks. Best wishes.

I must be special, but I do love the grey sky and Soviet style building. This kind of video always bring me back some memories.
As an expat who did live abroad for several years. Here an observation. Some expat will make very rational decision and they will be happy.
But A lot of expat got it wrong because they have been misguided from the beginning.
Some move to Usa because they watched a Hollywood movie. Others moved to Thailand because of the "cheap life, h/o/e". But usually the honeymoon will not last very long...
They were looking for something that was not here in the first place.
Very enjoyable and wise words as well regarding ex pats. We came to Ireland from London almost 50 years ago and are happy that we made the move first visiting our relations near Tramore (Carbally) before settling in Lucan, No language problems for us, however, we were not much use to our children with their Irish language homework from school. Keep up the streams, stay safe.

Very clean in Vitebsk also. There was a group of people who came out like an army early in the morning.

Hey there, lived my first 8 years in Belarus Minsk, even attended two grades in school. Once summer hits, make sure to visit Park Horkaha!
Dublin has been very sunny this winter. That part of Europe barely sees sun in winter.

When streets are free from litter it's not because someone is cleaning it up. The streets are clean because people don't drop trash there. - Heard this was an old Russian proverb.
I now live in Sunny Isles Beach, FL. 90% of my neighborhood is russian speakers. I love it.

I traveled to Ireland this fall (Dublin and Cork) and didn't find Dublin unsafe, although locals strongly advised not to walk north bank of the river after dark - maybe, just lucked out that time around (my hotel was on the north side, right by the river)? Locals and others (if there are any), please, make your suggestions. Have to say that dubliners are quite friendly helping you to find your way around the town, sometimes without you asking them, just spotting you studying bus schedules or staring into your phone and spinning your head around.
Agree here. Irish people are very friendly however there are dodgy areas that I wouldn't walk through even during the daytime.
Hi Niall , I use to work near Marlboro st and would walk home in the late evenings was like the walking dead sometimes hella dodgy !!
That would be as a result of the methadone clinics nearby. I remember literally tripping over them walking down Talbot Street.
Definitely agree with your comments regarding Dublin! Knackers everywhere and the Gardai do absolutely nothing!
Pree Vee Et! Young man. I spent all of 2021 there. Did not ever have a time that someone anywhere I went wasn't there to assist me. Not know one word of russian. Funny huh? I then attended russian language school that I loved. I will be back soon. I was retired and had to come back to the US where I had to work to supplement my pension. I loved living there. I made many friends. Hopefully we meet when I get back to hopefully my permanant retirement.

It all depends on what you want to study. As for work, I'd doubt it.
Hello, MrZaif! I accidentally saw your comment. I don't know about Belarus, but I can say about Russia. Without a university education and a language, I think it will be difficult to find a job - here this labor market is occupied by workers from Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and so on). But I think you will get more information if you contact your compatriots in Russia. If you contact the Embassy of Pakistan in Russia, I think they have contacts of the Pakistani diaspora in Moscow. That Yugoslav passport advice was wonderful, but having traveled the length and breadth of Yugoslavia in the 1980s, I'd say the yugoslaves that didn't travel abroad had not read it ... Yugoslavia was feckin hard going back then .....

I understand wanting to experience a different culture but what makes you stay there? Do you have a long term girlfriend? Is your job making you so much money you stay for economic benefit? @@TheRedDevil_NC yeah, totally, money-wise it must be a downgrade to come from Ireland to Belarus although living costs are super high in Ireland, so the quality of life is probably quite similar in the end. The weather is also a massive problem in that region, unacceptable. I hate the cold, but even more than the cold I hate the globalist/woke/liberal agenda being imposed on us. There might be some places on this planet that enjoy nice warm weather and are resistant to wokery, I hope!
@@Hershi666 Ive traveled the world and the best place I have found that has good weather, western amenities/decent day to day life, and thew ability to earn a reasonable living with minimal wokeness is the southeast USA and even it is getting woke now. If you have significant money I suppose there are lots of pockets in the world where you can live in warm weather with minimal wokeness but for the average citizen almost anywhere, the liberal/progressive agenda is destroying the world and there is really no escaping it without having large sums of money. I live in cerebranka since many years. I am curious from where came this idea that cerebranka is so crime infested or unsafe. This is totally untrue. It is as clean as any other area in Minsk. Me and my kids and wife go out late and we never had any problem.

Russian
Belarusian language is used in bus stops ,metro station ,railway station in some shops ets. Large city like minsk and regional centers mostly russian speaking but in provinces ,willages is still speaking belarusian.
Belarusian language usage decreasing in time not by natural proces but by policy that made pro-moscow goverment in minsk.

They speak like anyone from Russia.
Russian is the same all over the former USSR territory. You can go to the Central Asian republics and they would still speak the same Russian there, though there might be a bit of an accent in different regions. It is probably due to the same school programs and the same TV/newspapers/books, etc

Minsk has many advantages but one thing I really do not miss about it is the weather, pretty much worst of any capital in Europe.

Enjoy your videos. Minor cultural question.......in all your transactions I hear you say "Please" and "Thank you" which of course is good manners here in the West. I've heard Russians and Belarusians only use the terms for extra special favors and not ordinary routine purchases at stores or other services. I guess it is similiar, to Westerners with random smiles on their faces to strangers that Russians interpret as insincere. True?
From my own experience people almost always use "Please" and "Thank you" except for the redneck
I can't answer for all Russians, but personally I always use "please" and "thank you" to the salespeople, though there are some other ways to ask politely for what you want without using "please" directly.
Salespeople are also usually very polite, it's considered the norm in general to be polite to others.

Sure, now everyone can clearly see, what has happened to the former USSR after US became present there - poverty,gangsters and war(except Belarus) - yet putin is a western flanky. The export of gas to EU during the "war" has only increased(the gas pipe in Ukraine does not get damaged) , putin gets money and in general is doing a great job for western c..unts.
