That's a really cool watch - looks absolutely beautiful. The only thing, for me, keeping it out of ice cold is the movement: nothing wrong with it in general but it always infuriates me when manufacturers cut a corner by putting a non-hacking movements in fleiger watches. The whole point of them wasn't just great legibility, but synchronised and coordinated action, which is tough to pull off when you can't hack your watch.
I know this is an old comment, but for you or anyone else watching this:
Looks like they upgraded the movements in these somewhat recently to a Miyota 9000 series. It now has 24 jewels and hackable seconds.
@@BrokenGQI bought this watch recently and to my surprise, it does hack !! This is the first comment I’m reading about the movement update. Thanks for the info 👍🏽
Could you tell me from where you got this information from. Can’t find it in the Internet
My dad was from Stoke. Your accent is absolutely fine by me as it reminds me of him now he's no longer with us. Love your reviews too Ben.
But can he do it on a cold, rainy night in stoke?
I appreciate your accent, it's refreshing hearing it among all the American and southern English ones
I have the green tradition war colour , I love it and it's very comfortable to wear ,a big COOL from me.
I Think This Is One Of The Best Value Watches Ever Love The Aeroplane Movement And The Dial. All The Best To Your Watch Channel And Health.
Definitely cool. The way they integrated the Spitfire theme is nice and for a Flieger watch the dimensions are good. I'm more into Messerschmitt's Bf 109 but no watch awesome as this one there.
I would give that one an Ice cold rating. I love it!!! Great review and a wonderful format for your videos!!!
I gotta say I like the gun metal color. It’s got some cool subtle design features too. Nice review man! 😎👍
Dave
Love the review and love the different watches you are reviewing that are lesser-known with some diamonds in the rough. The first automatic movement I bought myself was the Seiko SNK793K1, and agree it is the watch for most uses, In my opinion, you can't beat Seiko. One idea for potential videos would be to look at servicing watches and best places or companies to go to for these services as most people will say to go buy a watch, but then forget to mention about servicing watches or where to go to. Keep up the good work Ben and stay safe.
Not a fan of non hacking movements. Otherwise a nice watch. The minute hand looks like a bullet as well. That’s pretty cool.
Really cool looking watch imo, would make a great gift for anyone into aviation. Movement is mediocre but with that rotor design I wouldn't mind too much. Cool.
I think this is the first avi-8 watch I love. It looks amazing in my opinion. My wrist is 7.25 inch so 42mm is great for me. I don't mind the Miyota movement, I quite like them and had good experience with them. My concern is the price, for 200 I'd buy it, but for more than that, sorry no.
The appearance and performance of the watch would get a ice cold for me, but the price s way too high for the value. For me, it's cool, but I wouldn't buy it for myself.
Same; design is awesome but the movement doesn't match. A Miyota 8 doesn't belong in a watch over ~$150.
A cool looking pilot's watch!
Excellent design. I like it a lot.
Definitely in the ice cold category for me. That said I'm a pilot watch nerd.
Damn, that's a sexy watch! A rare automatic from AVI-8. Nice!
Very nice introduction!
I have two AVI-8 models of the "FlyBoy". I like them, somewhat different than the main stream and has a nice quality with the Miyota movements. I wouldn't mind this Spitfire, but probably looks slightly big on my wrist.
Can you do a review on the Eone Bradley Timepiece?
Thanks Ben, love your content
Your reviews have a really nice design about them. Interesting design. Lot of money for a Miyota. Its size means its an occasional wear only, for which quartz are better suited. I have an Avi8 Hurricane, which I must say, I like.
The screw position is intentional. Makes the smaller dial further mimic the cockpit aesthetic as it mirrors how many dials are actually retained
big up the Hanley massive ;) i spent 2 years at stoke uni - i hated it lol but it set me up on my career path so theres that.
That's a gorgeous watch
I own the green face version of this watch, I have a 6.75" wrist and the watch sits very nicely and doesn’t look large at all, it comes with both the bracelet and a second leather band that matches your watch color, I’m using none, instead i placed mine on a olive green Barton canvas strap, way more comfy and it looks amazing, overall I’m happy with this addition and I did get a discount when they first sold so it made the purchase more sweet, the watch has a killer lume for those who care about lumes...the watch looks better once you have it on your wrist, its loaded with design features, my only gripe and it’s a small one would be the crown, it’s not screw down which would make it better water resistant if you plan on swimming with it..
I agree, it's definitely a cool looking piece but too big. The diameter is about manageable but the lug to lug is way too big. I do really like that dial and the custom rotor. Great work with the video as always 👍
Pretty cool for sure.
good review cool
Really resembling the Hamilton Khaki Pilot from Interstellar.
That‘s exactly what I thought! Cool watch, but nothing new !
Yeah, not sure if I would pay that much for that movement. Just a save a bit more and get a Hamilton Khaki Pilot Day Date. And that's what I did.
I think the resemblance maybe because it's a Fleiger watch. I think it's a fair price though they could have put a hacking hand winding movement even from Miyota. The Hamilton is for almost twice the price.
@@mohdhr1478 but it wasn't in Interstellar lol
I am slightly late watching your video, how rude, but I am glad to say I am a proud owner of this very watch and find it cool, I do have skinny wrists and it does look a tad large but I still love it. Top notch videos please keep it going.
I love all the little details, especially that rotor. It looks really cool. It's a little over priced though to be honest.
to be honest watch reviews lmaooo ( im subbed to u btw)
I liked it. I think it belongs in the cool section definitely.
Looks cool.
Ah up duck, great video, you just gained a sub
While I absolutely hate gimmicks on my wrist, the inclusion of the Spitfire is appealing in a watch that was designed to be accepted by a special interest group. As a retired Marketing executive l am impressed by the obvious thought that went into the initial design process. Phil.
Unexpectedly good looking watch from AVI. But the low end movement is a huge downside. Even given all the obvious work put into it, the price should be around 200$, not 350$
Its a definite Cool.. with the details & decent build Q's but as i said before when i saw this , for the price tag i'd expected a higher grade movement ( even though the 8xxx series are reliable & can be quite accurate ) but it is proper cool.
You should do a review over the Seiko sea urchin i'm thinking about getting one and would love to see you do a review. This was a great review and I think the watch is a cool.
I bought the AVI-8 Spitfire watch when it first came out in March. I have black edition. It looks great and the dial is a copy of the spitfire dials in the cockpit. It keep time well. As a aviation watch which gives homage to the spitfire. This is a cracking watch.
2 years on and how is it
@@davidmeredith2695 It still looks great. As a time piece it needs to be corrected on a daily basis.
The dial color is great.
Not a fan of having hours along with minutes in the Same line..but thanks
I like it and doesn’t bother me at all, whenever you look at the watch to tell the time, truthfully, how often do you look at the numbers rather than the position of the hands? Don’t take this as me telling you you’re wrong (obviously in this case there is no right or wrong), just putting my opinion out there.
Too many comments that are overrated it’s hard to decide if they are worth the time listening. I have my first Avi-8 and truly love to look at it whenever I wear it and have another on the way which will be my first chrono watch.
I have been eyeing up the Hamilton khaki for a while now but this looks cool also
One might call this watch brand a gimmick, butr given the name AVI-8 and the fact that all they produce are avition themed watches that would be unfair in my mind. As a former US Airman who spent the first two years of my 6 years total in the UK I LOVE this brand now owning 6 awaiting my 7th to be delivered.
I think the looks are very cool. I’d be worried about the size but the watch itself is beautiful.
great looking watch, ice cold
It looks like a cool watch and I like that the nod towards the Spitfire is subtle. But I also have small wrists so not for me.
If it had a better movement for the price, I would give this Ice Cold, but I rate it at Cool. The spitfire rotor is really cool.
I think this falls under "Cool" for sure! The only thing that doesn't work for me so well is the size of the watch, ideally, I'd like it to be around 40mm and perhaps 47mm lug to lug. Perhaps a slightly more premium movement would also be nice to have at a price point of 350GBP ($400). Apart from that, pretty awesome watch.
Great video Ben!!
Good review. Their best watch so far, but dunno how impressed the Battle of Britain RAF crews would be by having a German style Flieger as a tribute to Britain's most iconic plane!!! (what on earth were they thinking 🤷🏼♂️) Cheers, stay healthy 👍🏻
Ahahah. That's True!!!
Nice looking watch, I like the dial. If only it was a size 40mm case, I too have a skinny wrist. Greetings from Miami, Florida. ⛱
definitely cool, as a fellow small wrist, would be ice cold if a smaller version was available.
nice shot of longton by the way lol
nice watch.... cool
A nice watch. I like the design and I love the Spitfire Aircraft. I wish the dial had had those RAF Roundels on it…. I prefer it with the leather strap. And as a watch it is a bit expensive. In India it can be got for the equivalent of about 225 -275 Pounds at this moment. End of the day it is a Japanese Automatic and those may not have the brand value of a Swiss movement but they still work quite well. Yet, this is a pretty pricey watch, considering one can get a good Automatic Swiss Made Tissot for that price.
I am a fan of unique watches and I like the face and number layout.I’d expect a screw down crown with maybe a bit more Onion style. And I’d rip that bracelet off and use a leather strap.
Design is cool because of the multi-levels. Readability is awesome. Shame the overall size dimensions don't suit smaller wrists.
Agreed. £250 seems more reasonable.
put it in the cool column. mainly because a company was able to create something inspired by history that isn't just a horrible, insulting cash grab. they did a good job with it! best part is for sure the Spitfire on the back!
Thanks for sharing,Ben. Not a bad watch but those screws on the face......are they necessary. Good old myota movement. It's pricey though. Keep safe my friend. best regards from Sheffield, gangster city....Lol.🤗😺
Cool but I would like to see a watch made and dedicated to the Tuskegee Airmen, Redtails.
I give it a cool rating. In that, I liked it enough to have pulled the trigger on that model. Not sure when it will arrive here in Canada. I'm saving my ice cold rating for my future acquisition of a Hamilton Khaki automatic. BTW, at quick glance, I mistook you for the Urban Gentry (slicked coiff, accent).
You a Stokie? ! Nice. Hope to run in to you 🙂🙂🌟🌟
A lot of these have crazy dials on them. This one is nice tho
Kinda reminds me of the Hamilton khaki pilot. Anyone else?
I'll be honest, when it comes to watches I have no idea what makes a watch good, average or bad. I'm clueless when it comes to movements so my decision making really comes down to 'Does it look good" and I have to say this looks really nice, the design looks classy.
My only issue is because I've never heard of AVI until a few days ago when I saw an add on facebook the brands just comes across as cheap and I don't know if there worth the prices?
The materials uses are no different to citizen or sekonda watches that are good watches for their price, and that price is far less than this AVI brand.
So I purchased this watch for myself after watching this video (and a few others) and have to say I love it in terms of dial and general aesthetics, however the coating on the watch seems to be far darker than the promotional shots and certain footage from this video (2:26) to the point where it almost looks black. Slightly disappointing.
Like you, I am disapointed as the colour is not what is shown in this video and on the UK AVI-8 selling site.
I own one AVI impressed with that !! got for 50% discount from ethos !! being aerospace engg spitfire was my imagination always.
You from India, tell me about ethos experience!?
6:40 That is correct. 280 GBP if you pre-order.
Great design! Was it designed in Britain?
I’m afraid it’s a miss for me. The dial looks very busy, I feel as though there are just too many numbers on it. Add in the not very impressive Miyota movement and it comes up a bit expensive for what it is. I like some of the design touches, the upswept wing engraving and the spitfire rotor are very nice. And I don’t even mind the size, I just bought a Bulova Lunar Pilot last week which is also a larger watch. Like the AVI-8 the dial has lots going on (being a chronograph) but somehow it is more legible and clearer than the AVI-8. Look forward to the next review!
Great video. I love AVI-8 watches. I have this watch, however the colour is darker to the one shown in your video and on the AVI-8 UK selling site. A bit disappointed, I much prefer the other three AVI-8 watch I own.
Ben, can you review the Pagani Design PD-1639?
Would you do a review of the Citizen BN0150 Diver ?
Great review. What's your wrist size? Mines just under 7". Wondering if this will be too big for me?
I like the detail of this watch, very creative, but for me, the combination of the marker is confusing.
Hi Ben, I love your videos very much. I have a question. I have seen many watch reviews by you and many others on CZcams. Everyone talking shit about DW and MVMT which I completely agree but no one talks about FOSSIL watches, do they not worth talking about? I just want to know how good or bad they are.
Cool👍🥶
This is a very cool watch, but I agree it's too big. Avi-8 have another cool watch that I believe is 39mm or 38🤔, the Flyboy. Could you please review this watch?
"I seem to have an accent..." - well, as a non-native speaker, the first thing I thought when hearing you was "mamma mia, an English speaking person that pronounces words as they are written!" :)
Anyway, back to the watch. In my opinion, it's fine, but nothing to write home about; not uncool, not cool, somewhat lukewarm.
I just got this watch. Are you setting the time per the manual, by rotating the crown clockwise? Or counterclockwise? Does it matter or would the mechanism damage? I hate how rotating it per the manual moves the time backwards instead of forwards.
I have quite small wrists so it probably wouldn't suit me either, but I also like the small second hand. Shame it's not got a hacking movement at that price though.
Rather than i spend costly for oris propilot x.this watch criteria far to comparison with oris but the color gun metal and dial its already enough for me to own it.waiting for 1week and i cant wait to wear for travel.
Ice Cool mate defo 😎
Forgot the rating: definitely cool.
I'd buy one just for the rota lol yep sold.
Cool.
Nice AVI piece, I like the design, for my wrist it's good (19.7cm circunference) and also good the fact that they didn't put inside a DG2813 which is similar to the Miyota but it's China made (even tho that one hacks the seconds). Personally I prefer other microbrands (see Vratislavia or Prometheus or Gerlach ones) but still quite cool.
Why do u prefer other microbrand? Is it due to the movement?
@@raveshiryu movement, origin, meaning of the pieces...
@@AlessandroGenTLe ok I see most of microbrand just copy and modify design here and there. Lot of same diver watch concept and also same auto movement from more affordable supplier
Avi 8's are ice cold. I don't have one yet and wanted to make sure it's a fine watch (quality wise) as they look sharp as anything I've seen.
I've got an even better one from the same brand coming up soon - keep your eyes peeled!
An interesting looking watch, but the size and weight would keep you from walking in a straight line.
I love the design but the price seems a bit high given that I have a watch with better specs that was $200, I bought it on sale for $150. So, I'd say that one is cool, could be ice cold if it was cheaper.
it's probably the best output of avi8 so far. i'm just not sold on its price point.
I got one when this brand was very new. $50 for an automatic model. Windable and hackable. Probably china movement but it is fairly accurate.
haha lol, no "sub-zero" on the wall? Good review.
Didn’t have to hit us with the turtle neck Ben.
The Spitfire story is legendary so if you're really into that - and you want a quirky, microbrand 'British' watch for under 300 quid (with current discount) - then this is a really cool watch. Anyone have any idea what the production run is on this? If it's a fairly limited edition (it is supposed to be a microbrand) then the exclusivity factor might bump it into ice-cold territory...
This Avi-8 is all over Instagram recently! Personally I don´t like its dial very much because it has a weird layout. It´s not a classic Flieger B dial.
Ben!, I must ask do you ever review watches from brands like Tag, Corum and Tissot?.
he once reviewed a tissot and by tag do u mean tag heuer because he reviewed a watch that was a homage to one of their watches
Why two screws in the dial? I really like the face and layout but those two screws mess it up an make it look cheap. I found a similar screw look in an Orient watch too
