  • Changing origin/ coordinate System of SOLIDWORKS or Imported Parts or Assemblies.
When working with imported or bought out parts, we have often faced issues where the origin or coordinate the system of the part or assembly is not located in the place where we require. In this video we will take a look at default SOLIDWORKS change origin / coordinate system.

There has to be a better way than converting to STEP file, which permanently makes your part no long parasolid feature based.

in assembly only. can you do it in the part not assembly? There are videos stating you need to create reference geometry and assign the origin then save it out with the new origin but this only seems to work if the planes are aligned when they are imported, for parts for ex. catia where the part is in air plane coordinates I cannot seem to change the origin.... tried a lot videos... only way for me to through the day is to translate the origin in catia and save out...

I had success when making a derived part by first selecting the origin in the part on the design tree and then clicking and dragging the file I wanted to create a derived part with. This automatically oriented it for me in the proper position without the need for translating or rotating. (SW 2018)

You Hindi English is to fast to understand , had to rewind many times and stop to see what you do. CZcams pays you to make good videos not fast videos.

@@noon346 well, although it's not the worst I've ever heard, "perfectly fine" is very distant from that.
